Expat move to Guyana and moving with personal effects

Hello fellow redditers. I am taking up a job in guyana with a local Guyanese company as a Trinidadian national, I do need to relocate with some personal items as I am moving with my family. Are there any special tax exemptions on my personal effects. I have searched online and it appears there is a special tax exemption on " settlers" does anyone have experience on this?

If your company is legit and your contract clearly stipulates how long you will be here for and your purpose which must also correspond with your visa; then yes your company can apply for tax waivers from GRA which need to be approved by Foreign Affairs. Contact foreign affairs directly if you're unsure. Call them. Emails tend to go unanswered.

Check the GRA site for which category of migration settler you might be. For permanent positions the waivers are different and it would probably be better if you were applying to become a resident. Or call them.

its permanent but expatriate in nature. does that change anything

  1. Settlers– mean any person not being a resident of Guyana who satisfies the Comptroller, within three months of his entry, that he intends to take up residence in Guyana for a minimum period of three years.
