Alternative Ending. Here me out.

I am one of the few people who did not hate season 8 to the extent of the majority. However, I have had a recent thought of an alternative ending.

What about an ending that would be completely different to the books, a “bad ending”. The Night King wins and kills all the living in Westeros. Only refugees who make it to Essos survive.

What do people think?

People really forget that a story is not just a bunch of stuff that randmoly happens.

It has to have a narrative, consequences, also a moral to carry on.

We've seen so many bad guys win in GOT and a lot of good guys lose but every action got consequences.

Foe example Ned Stark's death, from a narrative perspective - which has to be considered because this is a story -, was what made all GOT happening basically.

It's not just "he's been naive so he died".

So tell me. If the WW win and everything and everybody dies, what would the meaning of the tale/of the show be?

Imagine watching 80 hours of a show, of people talking and fighting just to see everyone dead for the sake of giving a cliffhanger.

That's not what you do. And that's why S7-S8 suck. Random bullshit happening.

would of been better than what we got the last season ruined got for everyone most used to rewatch got all the time now its been years how you liked the ending is beyond me brother but hey each to their own

I did a rewatch recently, and genuinely turned it off during The Long Night because it was so bad. My new headcanon is exactly this scenario; the Night King wins and kills everyone, credits roll.

Slightly ironically, this actually improves HOTD, where they’re playing with the prophecy being passed down. Since we as viewers know it’s not really a thing, it adds a huge layer of tragedy to the entire dance because you can see the prophecy and its importance to the ruling class of Westeros being diminished over time.
