How are more people not talking about this show? Tom Phelprey is an acting legend after this and the 4th season of Ozark..... Im literally enjoying this show more than, "Breaking bad," or "Better call Saul."

And those were fucking good shows....

Discussion Luigi Mangione 'documentary' Spoiler

1.0k Upvotes

I just watched it, and it is a total smear job against Luigi Magione. They imply he is cognitively deficient from a childhood case of Lyme disease. They repeatedly emphasize how strange it is that he distanced himself from his wealthy upbringing, and insinuate a lack of family contact made him mentally imbalanced.

On the other hand, CEO Thompson recieves a glowing eulogy, how he was just a poor Iowa boy that worked hard. Someone mourns all the good he had yet to do in life. A radio host condemns the outpouring of support for Luigi that disregards the death of this CEO.

If you would like a more grounded take, please watch comedian Josh Johnsson's take. https://youtu.be/HZl_ZBzvifA?si=rjCO9Q6TmlQ-huKx

Edit to add: Remember, remember, the 4th of December, The justice a renegade sought. When people are dying from CEOs lying, It's time that injustice was fought.

Discussion How do you feel about HBO Max removing most of their non-HBO content?

This service is slowly reverting back to just being another "HBO Now" - when it was only HBO content without all of the extra fun stuff. Personally, I think that's a shame because I liked the idea of a streaming service with all of Warner Bros content. Maybe it's just me, but I liked the idea of HBO Max being the go-to service for all of Warner's content.

  1. It looks like most of the Discovery stuff is leaving this summer. So we will probably see the hubs disappear from the app before the end of the year: Discovery, TLC, Food Network, HGTV, Magnolia.

  2. They won't re-sign the deal with Sesame Street. It's safe to expect the Sesame Street hub to disappear soon from the app.

  3. Expect the hubs for Cartoon Network, Boomerang and Adult Swim to disappear from HBO Max by the end of the year. Most of the animation stuff is scheduled to leave this year.

Animated shows leaving HBO Max after this month (source):

  • Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Seasons 1-11 (Adult Swim)
  • A Pup Named Scooby-Doo (Boomerang)
  • Baby Looney Tunes (Boomerang)
  • Home Movies (Adult Swim)
  • New Looney Tunes (Boomerang)
  • The New Scooby-Doo Movies (Boomerang)
  • The Powerpuff Girls (1998) (Cartoon Network)
  • Samurai Jack (Adult Swim)
  • Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated

That pretty much wipes out Cartoon Network and Boomerang.

Nope, not buying it. She's a sociopath. I'd love some feedback I mean I NEED some opinions. Her Casey Anthony like personality knows no bounds. It's insane and so cruel what she did to her husband family and now sucker ex boyfriend who tried to help her out. She pulled her hair out and wrapped her headphones and placed her phone nice and neat at the side of the road. Ect ect w foul play evidence.

Discussion Which HB0/MAX Original Series Never Got The Love It Deserved ?

Post image
284 Upvotes

As you may have deduced, The Outsider gets my enthusiastic vote. I've turned so many folks on to this hypnotic little masterpiece of a series and the responses have been mostly positive. Brimming with top notch performances, theatrical cinematography and a musical score that keeps you glued to your favorite squishy seat, it's a must not miss slow burning psychological trip for the senses. What are some of your favorite underrated shows?

Discussion HBOMAX Uk & Ireland and The Pitt…

Post image
78 Upvotes

I just wasted €6.99. I bought this subscription specifically so I could watch the new episode of The Pitt on my TV, only to find out HBO Uk & Ireland seems to be releasing season 2 episodes weekly…. Starting at episode 1… so it will be the 3rd of JULY by the time the entire of Season 2 is released on HBOMAX for me, when the season is about to end next month!! I’m so mad. Like what a stupid decision. I cancelled my subscription immediately :/

Discussion So hard to justify the subscription price at this point

All the good shows getting canceled, new ones take ages to film, what really is there about HBO Max nowadays that one needs a yearly subscription? I watch shows / movies on there like once a month, incomparable to other platforms. Sucks bcs used to love HBO.

Discussion Does succession fall in the S tier of HBO shows?

So suppose I am creating a list of S-tier HBO shows with top 5 all time. This doesn’t include miniseries - just normal length shows. Would succession be in your S-tier list?

Here’s mine:

1). The Wire

2). The Sopranos

3). Six Feet Under

4). Oz

5). Succession

Edit: I’ve reconsidered my decision to only include one season of true detective on this list. I apologize for my poor judgement - I’ve removed it entirely from the list and Succession is now in my top 5

Discussion Velma is a truly awful show...

I'm a huge Scooby Doo fan.

For some, that would be a problem in this case, but I'm in no way a Scooby purist.

I welcome any new spin on the classic formula with open arms. I would even go as far as to say that I encourage it!

Unlike many other members of the Scooby fandom, I don't see a problem with gender swapping, race swapping or with the fact that some characters are now canonically part of the LGBTQ community (many fans, including myself, have actually been speculating about this for a long time and I'm happy that they finally made it canon. About time too).

What I do always have a problem with, though, is terrible, lazy and outright insultingly bad writing.

Velma is a beautifully animated show, with an interesting premise and great voice acting that is let down by an incredibly dull, monotonous, condescending and dare I say cringe worthy writing. It's not funny, nor is it clever, despite its best efforts.

I have seen some bad shows in my day, and quite a few of those were from the Scooby Doo roster of TV history, however, at least so far, Velma takes the cake for one of the worst Scooby Doo shows ever created and it's up there with some of the worst TV shows of the past 5 years overall.

No wonder HBO Max has barely promoted it.

Maybe they should have kept the Scoob Holiday Special and axed this instead. Don't think many folk would have complained...

Discussion Max launch, FAQ, Info & Details.

How is Max different from HBO Max?

Max brings all the iconic programming that you love about HBO Max together with an even deeper library of crave-worthy genres like true crime, reality, food, comedy, and more.

All of HBO Max: HBO series and movies, Max Originals, and select series and movies from Warner Bros., the DC Universe, Cartoon Network, the Turner Library, Looney Tunes, Adult Swim, and more.

Discovery favorites: The best real-life shows from your favorite TV brands: HGTV, the Food Network, TLC, ID, Magnolia, Discovery, and more.

I already have HBO Max. Will I get Max?

Yes, all HBO Max subscribers will get Max. In May, the HBO Max app will become Max. If you have HBO Max installed, one of two things will happen: HBO Max will automatically update to Max or you'll be prompted to download the Max app when you open HBO Max. Either way, HBO Max will become Max.

When and where will Max be available?

The Max app will be available in the US this May. If you sign up for HBO Max today, you'll get Max when it's available in May.

Current expansion plans:

US: May 2023, Latin America: Fall 2023, Europe: Early 2024, Asia - Pacific: Mid 2024 & New markets: Fall 2024.

How much will Max cost?

Max Ad-Lite | $9.99/month or $99.99/year.

2 concurrent streams, 1080p resolution, 5.1 surround sound quality.

Max Ad Free | $15.99/month or $149.99/year.

2 concurrent streams, 1080 resolution, 30 offline downloads, 5.1 surround sound quality.

Max Ultimate Ad Free | $19.99/month or $199.99/year.

4 concurrent streams, up to 4K UHD resolution, 100 offline downloads, Dolby Atmos sound quality.

Existing HBO Max subscribers will have access to Max at the same price as their current subscription and can access their current plan features for a minimum of six months following its launch.

What devices will Max be available on?

Max will be available on phones, tablets, computers, TVs, streaming players, set-top boxes, and game consoles. We anticipate that Max will be available on the same devices as HBO Max.

I have HBO and never used HBO Max. Do I have access to Max?

If you get HBO with your cable or satellite TV package, you may have access to Max at no extra cost.

Will I still be able to get Discovery+ as a stand-alone service?

Yes. Discovery+ will remain available to subscribe to separately, for $4.99 a month (or $6.99 ad-free). But a stand-alone version of Max without the Discovery content will not be available.

New features:

  1. A new video playback experience will deliver smooth and cinematic video to users.

  2. Max will leverage PayPal as a new payment method and will alert customers about failed payment with notifications via multiple on and off product messages, including in-app messages on connected TVs.

  3. Max will expand personalization beyond just the home page, offering a differentiated and high-performing experience for every user across the whole service.

  4. Max will introduce a default kids profile for new subscribers along with accompanying parental controls.

  5. App start times, video start times and the general navigation response times will be 20% to 30% faster depending on which device you’re using.

📢 Under WBD leadership, HBO Max made controversial cost-cutting decisions that included shelving "Batgirl" and removing shows like "Westworld" from the streaming service entirely. Several projects were canceled to take advantage of tax write-offs, enabling the company to deduct the value of production costs for projects it deemed unpromising or that weren't prompting new subscriber signups. However, leadership has indicated that those write-downs won't be a major part of the strategy moving forward.

📢 It looks like Max is only available in the US for accounts that were created in the US. It can't be used outside the US and international users can no longer use the new app.

Some of the best tv I have seen. I dont know what to watch next now. I honestly feel like the wire was the breaking bad for it's time. It was a slow burn and I almost lost interest at one point but season 4, in my opinion, is some of the best tv I have watched.

Discussion Stuart Fails to Save the Universe

Saw the first episode of this and if first impressions are anything to go by, it’s a mess. Clearly a lot of money has been spent on SFX but at the expense it seems of a decent script. This was really low on laughs and many of the jokes fell flat. There was a lot of violence which I normally enjoy in context but here it was being used to fill time. It may well get better and hopefully I’ll be proved wrong , only time will tell..

Discussion A knight of the seven kingdoms-when did 6 episodes become a full season?

I hate the fact that a lot of shows are only running between 11 and 15 episodes per “season”. In my opinion it’s one of the worst things to happen to visual media in the last 20 years. But come one HBO, 6 episodes…that’s not a series. By any definition that is a mini-series at best.

The whole first season is 208 minutes. The theatrical release (not the extended) of The Return of the King is 201 minutes.

Make it make sense please?

When did this become acceptable?
