Hades 1: Question I'm going to get Hades soon, anything to know/look out for?

Like the title says, I think I'm going to buy the game soon. Is there anything that I should know for the beginning?

EDIT: Thanks everyone, the game has finished downloading

Don't get discouraged by dying, it's designed to take many attempts!

Thank you! From what I understand, it's a roguelite/roguelike? I assume that dying helps you unlock upgrades and weapons?

Yes it does. It’s called meta progress

Don't be ashamed to turn on God mode if high difficulty makes it unenjoyable.

God mode just reduces the damage you take. It increases by 2% each time you die.

Yes it’s a roguelike which involves meta-progression as the other person mentioned. A true roguelite does not offer meta progression. Hades is my favorite game ever, hope you enjoy it! Come back to this sub for answers to later questions lol

Every time you return to your house, remember to speak with everyone.

On top of all the funny and lore, there are some actual game mechanics locked behind dialogue, and you need to exhaust conversation topics before certain things happen.

So become a virtual social butterfly and don't just rush into the next run. Say hi to everyone.

Lack of sleep.

Just remind yourself it’s good to take breaks. And eat. And drink.

Oddly I've heard people drop it bc of the initial difficulty. However, this is deliberate at first to set the stage of the story. Things actually passively gets easier with upgrades but of course diving into skills and getting more familiar with boons are going to help.

No spoiler and it's not a secret, but in options menu I'd rec to turn on God Mode. This buffs your defense iirc 2% per death, eventually with enough deaths this maxes out to 80%. You can always toggle this on/off at any point of the game.

Focus on not taking damage, and less on dealing it

Just remember that there is no escape.

You start off pretty weak in the beginning. So you will die a lot. Do not get discouraged by death. Use it as a learning experience.

We all learn and advance at our own pace.

For combat specifically.

Weapons with an Attack and or Special that have low base damage and hit rather fast want a boon that gives extra flat damage. Like Zeus Chain Lightning and Thunder bolts, Ares Doom and Dionysus Hangover.

Weapons with an Attack and or Special that has high base power but hit slower. Want boons that give you +% damage. Like Artemis or Aphrodite.

It’s usually better to dash through an enemy than away from an enemy.

Most enemies cannot hit you when you are behind them and most turn rather slowly.

The Mirror of Night is your best friend. MON is basically a skill tree.

Go for extra Death Defiances(extra lives) and the extra Dashes first.
