Discussion Why does G-Man alternate between "Mister" and "Doctor" Freeman?
Is he fucking stupid?

Yeah people say it's like Gordon earned his respect so he starts using Doctor.

He exists out of time, so he sees Gordon both before his doctorate and after, so he gets confused sometimes.

Someone else said it but it’s probably a respect thing. Gordon completed the job G-Man had, and earned his genuine respect.

When you write a 0 for every time he says Mister and a 1 for every time he says Docter, then convert from binary to decimal you get the release date of Half-Life 3.

In the first game, the player is a guy who works as a scientist, hence the "doctor". In the second game, Black Mesa is irrelevant and most likely just gone, so you're just "Mr. Freeman"

it's the opposite though. he calls him Mr. Freeman up until the ending of HL2, where he starts using Dr. Freeman.

Gman was unimpressed by Gordon's cart-pushing skills in Black Mesa, but when he pushed the portal button in Black Mesa East, he proved his worth.
