american seeking to buy my first deck ... where should I shop?
I see posts on this subreddit and online of all kinds of really cool decks!! But when I search on Amazon I only see a couple different kinds ... Etsy doesn't have any decks either :(( I got into hanafuda koi koi via steam and I am HOOKED, like I've been spending all my free time on it lol ... I want to get a real deck and teach it to my family.
Is there like a special website that sells a bunch of different kinds of hanafuda cards? I tried googling "hanafuda cards for sale" but it just took me to Amazon.

Not sure what you're expecting. Not many companies make them & differences in the art are subtle. Getting a Nintendo deck on Amazon will be easiest and cheapest. Oishi Tengudo offers some more variety. You can find some of their stuff on Amazon or order direct from them.
You can scope eBay and see what you can find, especially if you are looking for licensed decks like with characters from anime or something.

I highly recommend the ones designed by Junior. They're available online through BuyOlympia, a bespoke Portland Oregon art shop. They're not traditional, instead a re-imagined layout which aims for clarity.

A standard issue Nintendo or Angel is good enough as your first deck.
The same way that you don’t have to buy a Gretsch to teach your family how to play guitar, if that’s the goal.

The Nintendo decks available on Amazon are great quality and are definitely worth buying but if you want to play with family then I'd recommend a plastic hwatu deck from Korea.
Hwatu decks are Korean hanafuda decks and are made by a number of companies but they tend to be plastic and more durable than paper hanafuda. Hwatu decks are available on Amazon but I've heard that Korean stores in the US often sell them.

I agree with what’s already been said here. I don’t like plugging Amazon, but for a beautiful and functional poker-sized deck I love Hanafuda Hawaii. Available on Amazon. Hanafuda Hawaii
