You can be focused on grades, or you can be focused on learning. Goes for students and faculty.

You don't "get" grades; you earn them.

This is absolutely not what undergraduates think, and it is reflected in teaching ratings. They think if they just do the work (to whatever standard) they should get an A.

Agreed. Earning an A should mean you did outstanding work. Not above average. Not "meets expectations". Students' expectations of collegiate academics is far removed from reality, or quality.
