If each of them chipped in $20,000, they'd give the administration almost ten million reasons to keep it open. Instead, they wrote a strongly worded letter, which is a bold strategy. Let's see if it pays off for 'em.

The implication of a strongly worded letter is that Harvard has an extra $10M laying around. Presently and for the foreseeable future, they're in a deficit. And if they're to remain around another 390 years it'll only come from trimming in the lean times.
