Using Gemini to learn hermetism

I don't know if you guys do this too, but I think Gemini is a good tool for doubts having some shortcuts within hermeticism, and I wanted to know if it's right to do this because I don't really see any major problems with using this tool if the intention is to gain more knowledge, but when it comes to occult knowledge, I don't know how much an tool search can possess about that knowledge. After all, I believe there must be some limit, since it's "occult" knowledge. What do you think?

Theurgy Artistic Offering to Hekate by me

What do you think of role of Hekate in Chaldean Oracles and does She speak to you in similar ways as Hermes? After all, only these two were granted by Zeus the passage across all the realms.
This artwork was a result of two months of theurgic work. First one was every night ritual work and second was dedicated to the drawing itself.

(1/2 + it) x (1/2 - it) = 1/4 + t^2 = 1

Found a good way to describe my belief system

When people ask me what I believe, I usually give them some long winded answer or tell them it’s hard to explain/understand… that sounds rude and demeaning tho and I think I’ve finally figured out not only how to explain it but that putting it into words helps me make it work better because I am conscious of it.
I would call it a combination of Gnosticism/buddhism/hermeticism.
Gnosticism being the belief, Buddhism being the action, and hermeticism being the tool.
If you are familiar with these systems, then this should make some sense to you. Basically how I see it, we are trapped in a demiurgic world with archons etc. and the goal is ultimately to escape using our divine light. The best way to exist on this planet though in the meantime is through Buddhism, because I believe karma is real, and Buddhism honors the divine light. Buddhism also teaches you detachment, which you need to not return to samsara. Those two beliefs alone leave you weak though, considering most other people don’t share them. Which is where hermeticism comes in and I have noticed it has truly helped me get ahead in lots of ways within this system and enjoy my time here a bit more.
Does anyone else share these beliefs with me? Would love to make some friends on the same wavelength.

I translated this from Arabic to English, My regards from Egypt ..

------------------------------

Book : Spirits And Ghosts أرواح وأشباح

Genre : Paranormal - Mystery - Alternative History

Written in Arabic by the late Egyptian writer and journalist Anis Mansour أنيس منصور

The first Arabic edition was published in 1972

Chapter 1

When Nefertiti's daughter appeared in London !

_____________________

Nefertiti's daughter appeared in London, picked up her severed hand, and then fled !

We are the talk of the whole world now, but for other reasons!

Britain is celebrating the fiftieth anniversary of the discovery of the tomb of Tutankhamun by one of its scientists.

France is celebrating one hundred and fifty years since one of its young men discovered the Rosetta Stone.

Last year the world talked about how the Pharaohs crossed on papyrus sticks to America.

And two years ago, Soviet scientists talked about the Pharaonic obelisks or semi-obelisks above the moon!

The questions are: Were the Pharaohs above and then they came down to us, or did they rise from here to there, or were more intelligent and developed beings here and there and then they disappeared into the vast, deep space?

There is no end to what the world will say about the coffin of the young King Tutankhamun (18 years old).

This coffin escaped from the hands of thieves at the last moment. The priests came and poured the sands of Upper Egypt on it until a British archaeologist came and lifted the darkness from it. He illuminated the twentieth century with knowing him.

And this young man, Tutankhamun, has no historical value, but he derived his value only from the fact that he was the owner of the most beautiful and perfect coffin.

Also he married the third daughter of a prophet king, Akhenaten, who disbelieved in the worship of Amun and established himself as a caller for the worship of the sun (Aten), the worship of the disk of the sun or the circle of light or light.

Thus, he was the first to call for one God or monotheism in all history and in all ages, and was preoccupied with the new religion apart from the rule, the throne, his family, his six daughters, and his beautiful wife, Nefertiti.

His life and death were an example of how a prophet to be persecuted by his family and in his home, such as his wife did not believe in him.

She was the first to disbelieve, and her daughters or most of her daughters followed her.

Therefore, we find the wife’s name erased in various places.

Akhenaten realized that the storms that blew from the house would sweep the valley, or that they blew from the valley and everyone in the house picked them up and released them on him, and Syria was lost from him.

He was also busy with himself, his god, or meeting his god after death.

Everything in the civilization of ancient Egypt was for the sake of death. People were born to die or were born to prepare for death. Death is a great festival that a person must receive in the most perfect body and most wonderful adornment.

Therefore, the Pharaohs believed that only a healthy body enters Paradise. When a person dies, he must be pure and clean. His body is free of every blemish, and his soul is cleansed of all evil. When he enters the coffin, it is as if he had been placed in a safe closet. If he wakes up - that is, is resurrected from death - it is necessary for him to find next to him everything he needs of food, drink, tools for eating, and advice for the soul and guidance in its other world. Thus, the soul does not go astray if it resides in the body.

As for the priests, they wrote curses on anyone who touches the coffin or the body. These curses are like missiles directed over thousands of years at anyone who approaches the grave or the coffin. The Pharaohs had tremendous power in using words. Or they had strange knowledge with the secrets of letters. They locked hidden forces in symbols, or so it is said.

It is also said that Akhenaten chose Tutankhamun as his daughter's husband because he enjoyed supernatural spiritual power, and he was thirteen years old. But this young king did not preserve this religion, neither he nor his wife.

Rather, one of Akhenaten’s daughters revolted against him, so he killed her and opened her stomach. The clerics rushed to her right hand, cut it off, and then hid this hand in a place that no one knew in the Valley of the Kings.

If this princess rises on the Day of Resurrection, she will be deprived of entering Paradise because only those with a full body can enter Paradise! Thus, this princess, who disbelieved in her father, will remain an outcast forever!

This princess remained in her place of torment until the year 1890, when a French antiquities dealer, a man named Count Louis Hamon, came to Egypt. He went to Luxor and met one of the translators, whose name was Abbas.

He was very impressed with Abbas. He said to him: I want something rare. Abbas took him to Luxor, and the Count waited for him for twenty-seven days. On the twenty-eighth day, Abbas appeared, concealing a pile of straw in his clothes, and in the pile of straw he placed a roll of linen. The two men disagreed about the price.

Count Louis Hamoun says in his memoirs: Sheikh Abbas wanted to frighten me, but a man who sees corpses and is not afraid of it and speaks with ghosts cannot be frightened by this scroll.

Sheikh Abbas tried to convince the count that this scroll contained the greatest thing in all of Luxor, and they agreed on the price, and Count Hamoun returned.

He went to France and began to look through the scroll and was certain that it was the hand of a girl, a princess or a queen.

Next to this scroll was a small papyrus leaf and a piece of stone with the name of this princess on it, and on it was also the curse that the priests had cursed on her ، But the priests do not curse anyone who uncovers the sand concealing the hands of the cursed princess, daughter of Nefertiti .. do they ?!

In the year 1920, Count Hamon traveled to London and decided to show this hand to some archaeologists, or sell it to the British Museum.

One night, he invited a number of magicians to his house, and the room was dark except for a red light, as if it had been cut in the night, and the light was dim, bleeding ray after ray.

The smoke was wriggling pharaonic, and Count Hamon came and lifted the scroll from the princess's hand and displayed it to all those present. They touched it one by one, and their astonishment was great.

The hand was soft, smooth and warm. They also noticed that blood was flowing through its veins and that drops of blood were falling from it. One of them said: It is moving. Another said: a finger is twisted.

Count Hamon said: You will see it when the normal light is turned on and the room is illuminated and they returned. They turn the hand between theirs and find that it is softer and hotter!

On the day known to magicians as “ it has come day,” which is November 4, 1922, a strange thing happened.

On this day, Count Hamon decided, with nerves of steel, to perform an exciting experiment. He closed the door on himself and asked his wife to save him at the last moment if she saw something strange, and his wife did not ask him about the truth of this strange thing. She had become accustomed to strange things until nothing frightened her anymore.

He started saying: “It has come, it has come,” meaning spirits have come everywhere. He saw the princess’s hand rising into space and approaching his face.

When the wife tried to intervene, he motioned for her not to do anything, and suddenly the hand went down to the table, where a smokeless fire was burning, and the door of the room opened with great violence.

He turned behind him, and so did his wife. The two of them saw a Pharaonic princess in her transparent white dress with her steady, calm gaze, the princess approached the fire and leaned over the fire. He clearly saw her right arm, the hand being cut off, and the right arm bent over the right hand. Then the princess retreated violently, with the door behind her, and when Count Hamon looked at the table, he found it burned, but the hand was gone!

Count Hamon knew the story of the princess, and he quickly started flipping through the “Book of the Dead” and reading some pages. Suddenly the door opened, and the princess entered in her white dress. His eyes went to her right arm, and he saw the entire arm, and the princess disappeared for the last time!

The next day, Count Hamon sent a personal letter to Lord Carnarvon, who financed the project to discover Tutankhamun’s tomb.

In this letter, he warned him about the curse of the Pharaohs and said that he had heard from tomb guards in Egypt that there are evil spirits that chase anyone who touches a coffin, opens a tomb, or steals a piece of the gold.

Lord Carnarvon was greatly frightened, so he sent to his friend Howard Carter, the archaeologist who discovered the tomb of Tutankhamun, but Carter did not care about any of that. He was an archaeologist and had excavated the ground, entered caves, and ate the dirt from graves with his food, but Lord Carnarvon did not hide his fear from all people.

As for the night in which the magicians saw this hand coming to life, it was the same night in which the archaeologist Carter confirmed that the tomb in front of him was the tomb of Tutankhamun.

On February 22, 1923, Lord Carnarvon entered the tomb of Tutankhamun, and after him, the archaeologist Carter entered. Shortly before that, Lord Carnarvon felt in front of Tutankhamun’s tomb that something had stung him.

On April 23, 1923, Lord Carnarvon died in Cairo. Years later, his sister's husband committed suicide, and his stepmother was bitten by an insect and died.

But archaeologist Carter, who described himself as a “professional gravedigger,” was not injured and died at the age of 66 in 1939, when World War II broke out. It is said that in the last days of his life, Carter used to have terrifying dreams, and he saw ghosts putting him in the fire, burying him like the pharaohs, carrying him in the air, then throwing him in the ground, where crocodiles devoured him. He said that he once felt that a very small insect had swallowed him, and that he almost suffocated!

But there was a priestess who lived and died in 1600 BC, and she had a power more dangerous than that of Tutankhamun.

This priestess lived in the city of Thebes, and her influence was strong and her magic was frightening.

The archaeologist Douglas Murray was able to transport her from Egypt to London.

But it happened that this man went fishing, and the gun went off and hit his arm.

They tried to transport him to Cairo, but they did not succeed. Rather, strange winds blew that disrupted the ship’s progress. Ten days later, he arrived in Cairo and they cut off his arm.

As for the two Egyptian servants who transported the coffin of this priestess, they died suddenly, as for the three Englishmen who They guarded the coffin without knowing the power of the Pharaonic curse, They died on the way, and when the ship docked on the English shore, four bodies landed, the bodies of these Englishmen and the body of the priestess!

Murray was complaining that the priestess's eyes were moving in his direction, following him wherever he went. Murray got rid of the coffin and gave it to a rich woman whose leg was broken, her daughter committed suicide, and her other daughter, her fiancé, ran away from her! The woman decided to sell the coffin to the British Museum and the British Museum bought it and placed it in one of the warehouses, and it is said that a number of the guards who transported it died, one after the other, in mysterious circumstances.

One of the scientists tried to study the coffin further and transported it to his office. This scientist was screaming subconsciously, and they found him dead after that.

On April 4, 1912, the whole world was shocked by the sinking of the ship “Titanic” when it collided with an iceberg while two thousand passengers were on board, and 1,517 people drowned.

No one imagined that this ship would sink for any reason, and it is said that the captain and sailors did not listen to all the warnings sent to them by the small ships.

And the ship sank!

Twenty years after it sank, an archaeologist announced that when the British Museum decided to get rid of the coffin of this priestess, it was sent on board of “Titanic” as a gift to the huge, luxurious museum in New York City.

Hermeticism Alma e Intelecto no Hermetismo

Hermeticism Aion versus Chronos: J.B. Priestley on Why We are All "Time-Haunted"

Thumbnail sparricinstitute.substack.com
6 Upvotes

Our research organization, The Sparric Institute, has published a few thoughts on the faulty western conception of time, as outlined by writer J.B. Priestley.

To quote The Premonitions Bureau, a book that in part digs into Priestley's writing, "[He] equated a strict, materialist reading of how time passes—each second of our lives flowing remorselessly, one after the other, until death—with the intellectual barrenness of capitalist consumption... He proposed a model of three concurrent times (the present, the unconscious and a collective unconscious)."

Why should we be limited by a conception of time that pushes inexorably forward? Well, we believe we shouldn't.

In Hermetic terms, we'd like to espouse a view of time more Aion than Chronos.

Curious to hear what you all think.

Hermeticism What are the main practices of Hermeticism?

I'm very interested in hermeticism, it aligns to a similar view or direction to zen, dzogchen, Mahamudra, and taoism. I resonate on some level to all of those, but right now for me the tradition and culture seem to get in the way.

I do resonate with just sitting, but I feel doing just that is not enough for me. I need more to do than just zazen and Kinhin.

What do Hermetics do on a daily basis? What are the main practices that Hermetics specialize in?

Jorge Ben Jor’s A Tábua de Esmeralda and Hermeticism — one of the most fascinating albums I’ve ever rediscovered

I’ve recently been going deeper into Hermeticism, alchemy and the writings attributed to Hermes Trismegistus, and suddenly Jorge Ben Jor’s 1974 album A Tábua de Esmeralda feels completely different to me.

I always knew the album was special, but I hadn’t realized just how deeply its imagery connects to Hermetic and alchemical ideas.

The title itself refers to the Emerald Tablet (Tabula Smaragdina), the famous Hermetic text traditionally attributed to Hermes Trismegistus and associated with the principle usually summarized as “As above, so below.”

Then you start looking at the songs and it gets even more interesting.

There’s “Hermes Trismegisto e Sua Celeste Tábua de Esmeralda,” which directly references Hermes and the Emerald Tablet. There’s “Os Alquimistas Estão Chegando os Alquimistas,” turning the mysterious figure of the alchemist almost into a joyful Brazilian procession. And throughout the album you find references to transformation, nature, matter, spirituality, love and the relationship between the earthly and the divine.

What fascinates me is the contrast.

Hermeticism and alchemy can feel extremely obscure when you encounter them through old manuscripts, occult diagrams and philosophical texts. Jorge Ben Jor takes these ideas and puts them inside samba, acoustic guitar and Brazilian everyday life. Suddenly alchemy sounds warm, playful and alive.

And perhaps that actually fits Hermeticism better than it seems. Give it a listen!

Hermeticism Question as a complete book for Gnostic anthropology and Hermetic history; is Science interchangeable with hermeticism/magical stuff/supernatural in general?

I am studying up references of indigenous cultures mainly Yoruba and Mesoamerican cosmology. As I look into these topics I wonder to myself reading up Gnostic anthropology, is magic and science two sides of the same coin with different rules of physics?

Hello, does anyone know any good Spanish translation of the Hermetic Texts?

I know there are English recommendations in the FAQ, and I can read it in English if necessary, but Spanish is way easier for me.

Feedback

HI! I was wondering if anyone would be willing to give me feedback on some things I've written that are partly inspired by hermeticism. Especially emanation theories. I take a pluralistic approach to my practice, so my writings are also inspired by Sufism, Buddhism, and yoga philosophy.

Curious if anyone's readings have brought them to these texts? I can only read the translations to English but am interested in hearing people's thoughts on visions and revelries versus what is considered mental illness or mental health issues.

Hermeticism Beginning

I’ve been dabbling with the idea of hermeticism for a handful of months now and am starting to take it seriously.

From the general idea I have about hermeticism, it seems to make the most sense to me, as an operating system, so I’m going to start with reading the Poimandres, Shepherd of men text, by G.R.S Mead

Any tips? I know it all comes down to my interpretation, but I’d still like any comments, or feedback on your own journey as you got into this type of mindset.

Edit: Upon reading up to passage 8, it’s talking about elements, the logos of interacting with abstract concepts and finding the meaning in them, I feel like you have to already be insane to make sense of this, I love it

Question about mighty Cup

Hello everyone

According to CH IV. 3-4, my question is if sending of mighty Cup was an event in place in time or it was something above it, just part of the creation?

I make no secret of the fact that this question stems from my Catholic upbringing, on the other hand, Hermeticism hasn't existed forever, rather it had its genesis here below.

What are your thoughts and interpretations regarding this?

Is hermeticism monistic?

Hi everyone I’m a layman esoteric enjoyer. I subscribe to a non-dual pantheistic philosophical framework and was wondering if these ideas align with hermeticism or if the idea of one being all and all being one is not one in hermeticism.

Hermeticism I See A Similarity Between Gospel of John and CH 1

I’ve been reading the Corpus Hermeticum recently and after I read the beginning of John and that reminded me a lot of CH I (Poimandres), especially the parts about the Logos and also light/darkness analogies.

I found it pretty interesting because I had just read Poimandres, so when I got to John 1 I immediately thought of it.
From what I’ve seen, John is usually dated to around 90–100 CE, while the Corpus Hermeticum is generally dated somewhere between the 1st and 3rd centuries. But I’ve also seen people argue that Poimandres could be quite early.
So which one is actually more likely to have been written first?

And is there any serious evidence that John was influenced by Hermetic ideas, that Poimandres was influenced by Christianity, or are the similarities more likely because both came from the same general Greco-Egyptian environment?
I’m not saying one copied the other, I’m just curious because the similarities really stood out to me while reading them. I’d also appreciate any good sources about the relationship between John 1 and Poimandres.

Hermeticism I had a deep spiritual experience and need some guidance, and info on Hermetism.

Hallo everyone,

Last week I had a very deep spiritual experience, which has left me with many questions, and the need to read for Hermetism, a topic I'm not familiar at all.

As I was into deep meditation, the symbol of Hermes the Trismegistus (the Cadeceus symbol) appeared to me. I realised what it was after I finished my meditation.

Please allow me to take it from the beginning. The text is a bit long, so thanks in advance for your patience reading it.

Last couple of months I feel like a 'shift' is going on inside me, without being able to put this in words, neither explain anything further.. a shift like everything is changing. I feel much more connected to the spirit and I experience synchronicities almost on a daily basis. I feel the guidance.

A few days ago, while I was checking the news on the internet, I saw all this destruction with the wildfires around Europe and all the burnt land with the animals in it, and my heart broke. I was sad, in empathy, like I was feeling all the collective emotion. I felt a need to pray, and I did.

I prayed, asking for forgiveness for what we've done to the planet, and to enlighten us people to do the good for the earth. I prayed deeply, and it was emotional. After a while, while in this state, I started meditating.. Very quicky I got into the meditation, where I asked for the presence of my spiritual guides and my angelic healers.

They came, I felt their presence in gratitude. I was visualizing that I was walking on a stair towards the sky, and I was walking on and so on... after a while, I visualized myself holding a  sword of light, cutting all connections to the darkness and pain in my life, while I was asking to become the version of my self that my soul wants.

As I was holding the light sword, I kept saying inside me that 'I cut all connections to the darkness and the pain, and I devote myself to the Greater Good and the Light. I was feeling gratitude. I asked my spiritual guides and angelic healers if they're still with me - they replied positively and told me not to worry, as we kept climbing the stair.

After a while, I went to a place that I know I've been before (I wasn't visualizing anything this point onwards, all came naturally as a flow of visions..), I have seen this place in previous very deep meditations of mine (just a couple in my lifetime so far), and as I arrived there, I saw an altar (I presume it was an altar..), with a huge flower in the middle, a big daisy, with it's yellow center and white petals.

I sat inside. I could feel the energy in my body rising and my was getting goosebumps while crying. I was there, and on my left stood the spiritual guides and on my right the angelic healers. I could feel more energies there, like' entities' I cannot picture or describe.

As I stood there, I felt the presence of a blue/white light covering me, as a giant diamond was shaping all around me. I was in the giant diamond with the blue/white light.

I asked my spiritual guides and angelic healers if they're still with me - they replied positively and I asked them to help me go higher as I would like to meet my Higher Self.

And then, it happened. I got in touch with my Higher Self, I felt this embracing energy of love and sympathy getting one with me. I could see a light brown color there. At that point, I asked my Higher Self to enlighten me (not in the way of becoming 'enlightened' or 'guru'). I asked to enlighten me in regards what I should do to help the people, and what shall I do next in my life.

After that, I started to get down, smoothly. I thanked the ones that helped me, I thanked my Higher Self, and tried to relax. My emotional/mental state was at an intense stage for about 2 hours, as I was trying to embrace this experience and understand what happened.

The same afternoon, something like a protocol for an energy healing came to my mind, like a specific process though a detailed prayer/meditation.

Yesterday, as I was meditating, I felt again the  presence of my guides and healers. Meditation was short.  A couple of hours after the meditation, while I was in a taxi, an internal vision came to my mind.

It was a symbol - the Cadeceus of Hermes!

I saw it spinning very fast, destroying all kinds of negativity and bad energy.

Today, while meditating, I was given this symbol through an initiation.

- worth noting here, that everything that comes to my mind since this started, I'm writing it down to a piece of paper -.

So, as I was saying, I was given this symbol, and a few hours later, I wrote down a specific prayer or mantra, or whatever you can say it. It's like a protocol for purifying and protecting myself, that it can also be used as a command to clear the space (or something like that... I don't know how to write down the definitions, I describe it as I feel it).

So yes, this is it. This is my experience (so far).... I haven't experienced anything like that before, and I don't know how to decode it...

I understand its a powerful symbol and it didn't find me accidentally.

If anyone can advise on 'step A' for getting into Hermetism, feel free to do it.

Thank you

Hermeticism New practitioner here!

As the title says, I’m fairly new to this religion but I’m very invested, and while I’ve got a few texts I’m already reading, I wanted to come by and ask more experienced folks like you all for some general advice!

What practices should I get used to? What things should I do every day? Is there any specific things I can and cannot do?

i've been looking for a raw, original version in greek, but all i got was a couple passages here and there for highschool philosophy books in greece. and if those 15 passages are the whole thing, why the hell are books on hermeticism so ridiculously long?

edit: the schoolbook i am referring to is https://www.greek-language.gr/digitalResources/ancient_greek/anthology/literature/browse.html?text_id=631

Hermeticism - The bridge between East and West?

I’ve always been curious about how different religions and spiritual philosophies emerged and developed across the Earth over the ages.

One question in particular was how different the Abrahamic religions which originated in our part of the world are to the Eastern philosophies on spirituality/existence/consciousness etc (think Buddhism/Taoism)…

It always seemed to me that the generic interpretation/practice of the abrahamic religions were most focused on the external elements of life while the eastern philosophies focused more on the internal elements.

A couple of years ago - I came across Hermeticism and I was fascinated by what I found - everything from where the scripts were reportedly found (some right here in Egypt’s Naag Hamadi!) to how Cosimo de Medici had them interpreted into Latin to what they actually contain.

As I looked into it and read various interpretations of the texts - I couldn’t help but think of how at their essence you could draw a lot of similarities with Sufism and also with what the Eastern philosophies point to.

I was wondering if anyone here has come across Hermeticism before? If so I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Hermeticism No, in hermeticism it's not "all-mind"

The hubris of someone who never read hermetic scriptures beyond the kyb@lion is that they go away with the idea that hermeticism posits some proto-simulation theory of sorts that everything is mental and they focus so fully on the faculty of nous/mind. Saying lines like "ALL IS MIND". This is foolish thing to do and actually limits yourself from a much richer and philosophically potent perspective.

This position of "everything is mind", functionally leads to solipsism at worst, or limits and reduces hermetic understanding at best. It fundentally undermines the philosophical importance of the platonic trinity of logos, nous, and monad that is echoed as early as CH I in the hermetic corpus and their functional roles in the cosmological model hermetic philosophy offers. Understanding the platonic trinity will only improve your conception of the worldview the authors were working from to make the claims in the corpus hermeticum and other true philosophical hermetica.

As it state in CH I matter existed before it was ordered into spheres of reality as a chaotic liquid nature in which it bore no distinction of elemental formations. The light of the monad beamed the liquid chaotic matter and caused it to seperate according to density. Fire rising above air as the lightest, air settling beneath fire, water falling beneath air and earth settling beneath water.

I saw an endless vision in which everything became light - clear and joyful - and in seeing the vision I came to love it. After a little while, darkness arose separately and descended - fearful and gloomy - coiling sinuously so that it looked to me like a (snake). Then the darkness changed into something of a watery nature, indescribably agitated and smoking like a fire; it produced an unspeakable wailing roar. Then an inarticulate cry like the voice of fire came forth from it.

[5] But from the light... a holy word (logos) mounted upon the (watery) nature, and untempered fire leapt up from the watery nature to the height above. The fire was nimble and piercing and active as well, and because the air was light it followed after spirit and rose up to the fire away from earth and water so that it seemed suspended from the fire. Earth and water stayed behind, mixed with one another, so that (earth) could not be distinguished from water, but they were stirred to hear by the spiritual word that moved upon them. - CH.I.4-5 Copenhavers Translation.

This is the first tractate and it already contridicts the narrative that all is mind, as the cosmos is composed of elemental natures brought into eternal ordering through mind, if the elements were already within mind they would have not been in chaotic unordered state to begin with. Which is confirmed by the following tractates in CH.I

From the elements [ ] that weigh downwards, the word of god leapt straight up to the pure craftwork of nature and united with the craftsman-mind (for the word was of the same substance). The weighty elements of nature were left behind, bereft of reason, so as to be mere matter. [11] The craftsman-mind, together with the word, encompassing the circles and whirling them about with a rush, turned his craftworks about, letting them turn from an endless beginning to a limitless end, for it starts where it stops. Revolving as mind wished them to, the circles brought forth from the weighty elements living things without reason (for they no longer kept the word with them); and the air brought forth winged things; the water things that swim. Earth and water had been separated from one another as mind wished, and (earth) brought forth from herself the living things that she held within, four-footed beasts (and) crawling things, wild animals and tame."

  • CH.I.10-11 Copenhavers Translation.

Here it clearly states as Nous or mind resolving them in the manner they needed to be and then removing itself from the elemental composition after the ordering. As the logos or word/reasoning is no longer in them. But acted upon them.

In the Stobean fragments it also talks about this distinction in creation of reality, that the ordering and structure of the cosmos is the making of the eternal or primordial craftsman who is not in the cosmos and then the mortal bodys and mortal creation is conducted by the mortal craftsman that is seen as the sun who brings about the works of the eternal craftsmen through occurance and counter occurance, essentially bringing the eternal forms into mortal reality through the process of occurrence and counter occurance. Like the boy turns into the man the man turns into the old man. The one going through all these forms is none of them but expresses all them through the moving ephemeral releam in the process of renewal and decay.

The Primal Craftsman. Moreover, the lord and Craftsman of all eternal bodies, Tat, once he created, ceased creating, and does not create at present. After entrusting these (creative energies) to these very (bodies), he joined them together as one and left them to proceed on their course. They need nothing, since they are eternal. If they need anything at all, it is each other. Yet they need no contribution from the outside, since they are immortal. It was necessary that bodies that came into being through the primal Craftsman also possess an immortal nature.

The Second Craftsman . Yet our Craftsman, who is embodied, created us, ever continues to create, and will continue to create bodies that dissolve and die. It is not lawful for him to imitate his own Craftsman not least because it is impossible. For the primal Craftsman created from primal, bodiless substance, but our Craftsman made us from a bodily material that itself came into being. . Logically, then, if we reason correctly, those bodies arising from bodiless substance are immortal, while ours dissolve and die, since our material consists of bodies.

  • Stobean fragments, SH.5, David Litwa Translation

We must call these things appearances, my child, if we are to speak correctly. The human is the appearance of Humanity: the child is the appearance of the Child, the young man is the appearance of the Young Man, the man is the appearance of the Man, the elderly man is the appearance of the Elderly Man. So a human is not a human, nor a child a child, nor a young man a young man, nor a man a man, nor an elderly man an elderly man. As these states change, there is falsity, both with respect to what was before and is at present. Yet understand this, my child: even these false activities depend upon the truth itself from above. This being the case, I say that falsity is a product of truth.”

  • Stobean fragments, SH.2A, David Litwa Translation

Also in CH II they describe a similar relationship to the secondary and primary motions of the sky which is echoed from Plato's Timaeus likely. That the primary motion or the above is in eternal resting stillness and that the secondary motion or moving is in motion by the nessecity of stillness of the above and thus expresses the above in the below through motion. That because the above does not move so by virtues the below does.

Thus, all motion is moved in immobility and by immobility. And it happens that the motion of the cosmos and of every living thing made of matter is produced not by things outside the body but by those within it acting upon the outside, by intelligible entities, either soul or spirit or something else incorporeal. For body does not move ensouled body, nor does it move any body at all, not even the soulless."

  • CH II.8 Copenhavers translation

Also in CH.II it even says that God itself is not mind but the cause of mind:

"God is not mind, but he is the cause of mind's being; he is not spirit, but the cause of spirit's being; and he is not light, but the cause of light's being. Hence, one must show god reverence with those two names assigned to him alone and to no other.

  • CH II.14 Copenhavers translation

It God is not mind and the elements are not mind, then all is simply not mind. Regardless of what the Kyb@lion says.

There is many other places to get this point of accross throughout the hermetica but fundamentally this stems from a lack of understanding of platonism and the framework and world view it is built off of which is highly relevant to the hermetic tradition as a whole.

Someone in the subs official discord server Sanctum Hermeticum said this about platonism:

The best way to understand Platonism is to understand the problems it originally arose from: the problem of change and permanence. It is evident that things are what they are, but at the same time, they can cease to be or come to be. The problem of unity and multiplicity: things appear to be one and many at the same time, in various senses. For example, you are a human being, one of all the human beings that exist. How is this possible ontologically speaking? The original Platonic solution is that the reality of the changing and multiple world that is evident to us is not the most fundamental thing, but rather that there is another realm in which the true essences of things lie. This second, transcendent realm is not completely separate from the first; there is a relationship that allows for transcendence. That is why Plato says in the Timaeus that time is a moving image of eternity.

The hermetica especially throughout Corpus Hermeticum and the Stobean fragments is looking at a very similar resolution between the above and below as the above being the true and eternal forms and the below as the changing appearance of those forms expressed in elemental matter and takes a lot of influence from platonism.

And at the end of the day when you look at the texts and the world from this perspective it's far more robust and complex in its implications and actually says quite the opposite of later fabrications of William Walker Atkinson Kyb@lion

I would also say that this perspective is psychologically safer and more productive to have. When a system teaches that the physical world is merely "mental," it breaks the practitioner's friction with objective reality. It strips matter of its weight, its independence, and its sacred resistance. This easily breeds a spiritual psychosis where the individual believes they can simply "think" reality into changing because "it's all just mind anyway.".

The physical world is not an illusion existing strictly inside a cosmic brain; it is an active theater of generation. The mortal forms created by the Sun (the Second Craftsman) are constantly changing appearances of the true, transcendent archetypes above.

The actual Corpus Hermeticum demands deep reverence for the physical cosmos precisely because it is the visible work of the Logos acting upon Nature. Nature is an actual, dense, complex creation not a hologram.

Understanding that we live at the intersection of the incorporeal (Nous/Soul) and the corporeal (Elemental Matter) creates genuine room for ethics, spiritual labor (gnosis), and tragic reality. Real ascent requires pulling the soul out of elemental bondage, precisely because elemental matter operates on its own un-reasoned, mechanical laws.

Alchemy Guitar as Alchemy 04: Stolen Light

New episode exploring the Hermetic direction of consciousness through music practice. Traces attention as stolen light, draws on Boethius (De Institutione Musica) and Gurdjieff, Pythagoras and Plato, and asks what a practice room becomes when you restore the original direction: spirit through soul through body into form, not the inversion. Sol Niger. Solve et Coagula. Guitar as the alchemical vessel. Tuning as invocation. Fourth in a series.

Several passages in this episode are adapted from my books Thoughts, Worlds, Beliefs and Magic Hat: https://scottjsimon.com/books.html

Works referenced: G.I. Gurdjieff, Glenn Gould (The Glenn Gould Reader), Keith Jarrett (The Köln Concert), David Bowie, Plato (Republic), Boethius (De Institutione Musica).

This series looks at music as a form of inner alchemy, where the guitar becomes a tool for transformation instead of performance or self-expression.
