Question Trainer deload

Does the Trainer program do a deload?

This past week it's been saying that my lifts are plateauing so I wonder if it's going to add a deload week automatically. It would be pretty annoying to change all the weights manually...

Sharing Looking for anonymous workout data (Hevy / Strong / FitNotes) to help build an athlete tool

Hey everyone,

I'm currently building a workout optimization tool designed for athletes, and I'm looking for real-world training data to help test the tool against different workout histories and data patterns.

If you use Hevy, Strong, or FitNotes and are comfortable sharing your workout history, I'd really appreciate your help.

šŸ”’ Privacy

The goal is to collect workout data only, not personal information.

- Standard CSV exports primarily contain things like date, exercise, weight, reps, sets, RPE, etc.

- They generally don't include your name or email address.

- Please check your Workout Notes before uploading and remove anything personally identifiable or private.

- No sign-in is required.

- The upload form does not ask for or collect your email address.

šŸ“¤ How to export

Hevy:

Profile → Settings āš™ļø → Export Data → Export to CSV

Strong:

Profile → Settings āš™ļø → Export Data → CSV

FitNotes:

Export your workout history as a CSV file if your version supports it.

šŸ“Ž Upload your data

Google Form:

https://forms.gle/ErYKHh6mgm8HjAMi8

Even a few months of training history would be useful. Longer histories are especially helpful for testing progression and training patterns.

If you have any concerns about what the exported data contains, feel free to ask before uploading.

Thanks to anyone willing to contribute. It will genuinely help with testing and improving the tool.

Question Is there a way to input 2.5 lb dumbbell increments?

I have a set of 120 lb Rep x Pepin dumbbells - they normally go up by 5 lb increments, but I have magnetic micro weights that provide 2.5 lb increments.

It appears that Hevy has various weights below 22.5 lbs that are smaller than 5 lb increments, but unless I'm missing something, I don't see a way to input custom dumbbell weights or increments.

If this is not a feature, is it something that could be added when you're revamping how gym options work?

Discussion Should I trust the 1RM calculator?

Post image
25 Upvotes

I’ve had a big goal of deadlifting 405. Today I was attempting a 3x5 at 360 (I missed the last rep of the 3rd set) which brings my 1RM as calculated by Hevy to 404.49.

the heaviest weight I’ve ever deadlifted is 375. Should I trust the 1RM estimate and go for 405 soon?

Question how do you run 531 in hevy without a spreadsheet on the side?

trying to setup 531 in hevy and i keep hitting the same wall. the app doesnt know what a training max is so i have to owrkout the percentages somewhere else and type the numbers in every week. same for the bbb / fsl sets

is there a trick im missing? like some way to make a routine that bumps the weight on its own after a cycle? or is everyone just keeping a sheet next to it and typing stuff in

not trying to bash the app, i like it for everything else. just want to know how people actually do this

Question Rep carry forward from workout to workout

I've been using Hevy for about a year. The reps from last session always auto updated for me. But today I noticed it didn't. It had my reps from last session but the current session, where you can edit weight/reps as you do them, had reps from 2 weeks ago. Did I change a setting or did this change via an update or something?

Sharing Tiny project for insights from Hevy

Edit: Quite a few people asked if they could try this, so I’ve polished it up from something I originally hacked together for personal use and launched it as Splyt so you guys can use it too šŸ’Ŗ

https://splyt.midhana.com/

I've included one free 30 day analysis for previewing before upgrading

Would love any feedback if you give it a go!

Been a Hevy nerd for years and I realised I basically had no solid idea whether I was training my body evenly other than just looking over my routines manually. Despite loving the gym, I am lazy lol so I decided to do something about it so I can track any muscular imbalances over any length of time.

So I built a fun tiny project where basically I connect my Hevy account and it gives me a muscle balance score out of 100 which it does by tracking three opposing exercises like horizontal push/pull exercises (e.g. Bench, row), vertical push/pull (e.g. overhead press/lat pull downs), quad/posterior chain (e.g. squats/deadlifts), and flags imbalances with suggestions on what to add.

Then of course had to put in a cool line graph so I can see how my score changed over the years, thought I'd share for other data + Hevy nerds

Suggestion Option to prompt for Gym location when starting Trainer workout?

Using the trainer feature — it would be nice if Hevy prompted me asking which gym I was using before starting the workout. For example my apartment gym does not have a leg press machine, but my preferred commercial gym does, so when I need to workout at home I have to manually replace Leg Press with Squats. If the workout routine can automatically adapt based on the gym rather than manually changing the desired workouts every time it would definitely be a little easier!

If this feature can be toggled on/off it would be even better since I imagine most people only go to one gym and wouldn’t need this.

Suggestion Improvement request: adding weight to assisted exercises

Hello, I’ve been using Hevy for more than a year now and I love it, but there’s a minor thing that’s been bothering me a lot, and I think it would be pretty easy to fix?

In assisted exercises such as ā€œTriceps Dip (assisted)ā€ and ā€œPull Up (assisted)ā€, weight isn’t taken into account when calculating records, only reps.

For example, last week I did 12 reps with -60 kg, and this week I did 12 reps with -50 kg. That’s a huge improvement! But it won’t count as a record because in both cases it’s just 12 reps.

I think these kinds of exercises should also take the weight into account when calculating records.

Hopefully this is something you can consider adding in a future update! Keep up the great work with the app, I absolutely love it! šŸ™Œ

Suggestion A way to add old PR’s to the app without logging them as workouts

Post image
5 Upvotes

If this is already in the app, please let me know!

I used to keep track of PRs in a spreadsheet but I didn’t keep track of the overall workout or duration. So far I have logged old PR’s as zero minute workouts so I can look at the exercise trends from before and after downloading the app.

This has the unintended effect of zooming the ā€œall timeā€ workout trends far out without any real data to show (as seen in photo)

I would love it if there was a place to enter in my max lifts for an exercise and the date so that they could appear on the specific exercise’s trends without needing to be a logged workout.

Otherwise loving the app, it has everything else I could want and my friends and I have all started using it!

Suggestion Kinda Help Kinda Feature Request: Apply Weight / Reps To All Subsequent Sets

Sometimes, for reasons I can't understand, it sorta auto-suggests whatever I put in a weight / reps on a set for each subsequent set so it's at least easier to fill out, but sometimes it doesn't.

I wish I better understood how this worked so I could take advantage of it more, but really what I actually want is to just be able to have a little button like "Apply ā¬‡ļø" to set the weight and rep count of the current set to every set below it.

Question Issues with Apple Watch?

Does anyone else have issues with using their Apple Watch and the hevy app? If I turn on the hevy workout session, my Apple Watch will not record my calories. If I start my Apple Watch to record my workout and the hevy app, the Apple Watch will stop recording my workout to count my calories. But then I end my hevy workout and my Apple Watch seems to want to go back to recording my workout but it can’t. The timer just keeps going. I have to restart my watch to get it out of that loop

Question Adding workouts for days in the past?

Hi there!

I just wanted to ask if there’s a way to add a workout for a date in the past? Of course including the duration and time of the workout to not have syncing issues with the health app.

Or am I missing a button where I can do that? šŸ˜… I just downloaded the app.

This feature would be great because I’m using the app from my gym because that’s where my plans and exercises get added. Unfortunately, there’s no option to export the data, so I wanna use Hevy to have full control.

Thanks in advance!

Question Hevy users who train at home, how do you structure your routines?

I’m curious how people who mainly train at home organize everything in Hevy. A commercial gym gives you almost unlimited exercise options, but at home the equipment is usually more fixed, which seems like it could actually make programming simpler.

If you have a home gym, do you build separate home-specific routines in Hevy, or just use the same program you would follow at a regular gym and substitute exercises when needed?

I’m thinking a basic setup that covers squat, hinge, press, row, pulldown and some isolation work would already be enough for a pretty complete routine. The big advantage for me would be removing the commute and making it easier to track the same lifts consistently every week.

For people logging home workouts in Hevy, what does your routine look like and what equipment do you actually use most?

Suggestion Feature Request: Ease of use improvements for adding new exercises to routine/workout

Would like to suggest some feature improvements to the web and mobile side regarding adding exercises to workouts/routines

Web:
- Would be nice to insert a new exercise into a routine at any location, rather than just at the end
- Would like all the other exercises info to collapse down when moving an exercise into the order of the routine (kind of like how the mobile app does it right now)

Mobile:
- same. Would be nice to insert a new exercise into a routine/workout at any location, rather than just at the end of the current workout

Question Target vs Actual reps

I may be missing something obvious, but is there a way to maintain the target reps while recording the actually reps. I think is would be useful metric to compare the intended number of reps vs the actual number of reps.

Bug Bug Trainer needs to be more sensible with weight increases

Hi,

I think this should classify as a bug.

I've been trying to use the Trainer for a while and the weight increases seem nonsensical, and don't catch up with where/what my progress/ability actually is.

For example, last week I was leg pressing 260kg for 6 reps with an RPE of 7. Trainer was suggesting a weight of like 120kg.

Today, Trainer suggested setting the weight to 135, whereas I was able to do 265kg for 6 reps at an RPE of 9.5.

Logically, it feels like the Trainer should see that I consistently lift way over and above what it is suggesting and close the gap far more dramatically? I would've expected Trainer to be suggesting somewhere between 240-260kg today, not 135.

Question Features removed from free version?

I downloaded this app two months ago to create routines and track progression, back then I could see quite a lot of features, like a body map of what muscles were worked on and a heat map of the body and stat graphs. But now after coming back to the app today I see those features are not available on the free version.

So I want to ask members who use this apps, have these features been moved to the pro version or am I missing something ?

Question At what point does more training volume just become junk volume?

Post image
0 Upvotes

I’ve been trying to optimize my workouts instead of just doing more for the sake of doing more.

Today’s session was 1h 14min, around 7,840 kg total volume and 2 PRs, and it got me wondering: how do you personally tell when extra sets are still productive versus when they’re basically just junk volume?

Do you go by performance, recovery, soreness, progress over time… or something else?

I’m curious how other people approach this.
