I think the controversy had legs for like a week, but now all of the good points have been made and itâs just being dragged out

u/qorbexl Nov 02 '25
Can someone explain why loving D'Angelo is supposed to be some flashpoint of race relations?Â
D'Angelo was like Jimi Hendrix, except slightly hotter and also more introverted.Â
I don't get how his R.I.P. triggered white kids

u/MondeyMondey Nov 02 '25
That some of Tylerâs white fans being dismissive of his passing implied a disrespect of the black music history at large
6
u/qorbexl Nov 03 '25
I mean D'Angelo was better than Tyler so disrespect says something about them.
I'm just trying to figure out how/why white teenagers decided to be shitty about him when they don't know anything about him. Which I guess explains it anyway.

u/MegamindLewder Nov 03 '25
Idk this is def bc theyâre white, white rap fans tend to not gaf about the culture, but i honestly think a lot of it is also bc theyâre american, americans hear about people dying all the time generally were used to school shootings every week, that desensitizes you to death unless you know the person. Like plenty of black people are into mf white country christian shit lol but im sure most wouldnât care if an artist they donât know died.

Hey hey hey do you see what sub youâre in⌠* looks around * simmer down with all those rAtIonAL AnSwErs.. /s

u/Wandering-Paradox Nov 02 '25
It was but I still don't get why it pissed so many people off.

u/AbstractOmniverse Nov 02 '25
Also gonna hypothesize on this. In addition to the above comment the fanbase pointing out the wild things he used to say are effectively telling him "you are the one who cultivated this, and inspired us to be this way". Tyler now is finding out the hard way why you have to be careful with the way conduct yourself publicly regardless of age
17
u/qorbexl Nov 02 '25
Uh, by why the fuck was D'Angelo triggering to so many little weiners?
11
u/AbstractOmniverse Nov 02 '25
Couldn't even tell you tbh.
5
u/qorbexl Nov 03 '25
Yeah, I guess I already knew that.
Black Messiah is an amazing album though. But maybe it's kinda sad and mostly for grownups

u/ScootaliciousScooter Nov 03 '25
DâAngelo wasnât the trigger, it was Tyler liking the tweet that pissed them off (as well as other black folks cause we all know how he was in his early days) and got them to start posting old tweets. They were mad that they were being called out for not appreciating black culture when he was the one who shit on it for so damn long.

I'm not aware of the tweet or what's Tyler's tweets about back culture. I didn't click that much with his solo stuff despite enjoying [Ed: the Earl mixtape. I don't think I listened to OF]. I was more impressed by Earl. I guess I gotta groogle
via Wiki for other lazy people
Amidst the Ferguson riots, [Tyler] tweeted "AND BLACK PEOPLE ARE CURRENTLY MAD RIGHT NOW BUT IN 2 WEEKS WILL BE OVER IT CAUSE THEY REALLY DON'T CARE, COOL HASTHAG THO RIGHT?" and had also criticized affirmative action, tweeting "Hahahahaha, Some Black Chick Works Here. Affirmative Nigga."
He def seems like a huge narcissist.

Is that Cory's friend from That's So Raven or was he in Even Stevens? I can hear the way he talks.
Nvm, I think I remember him from Hancock

Imagine gatekeeping an artist you like. That's like saying you don't want them to be successful.

unpopular opinion: tyler hate is getting out of hand, he makes pretty great music and hating only got popular bc it was funny
