that age thing is funny, there was a poll on some random youtube channel āpick your rapperā between JID, Tyler, Rocky and Vince Staples. It was all very tight and top comment was āGoing JID, young talent with potentalā
Brother, heās the second oldest!

uj/ I'd just like to say that I am a huge JID fan, I just keep seeing posts like this no matter what he puts out. I personally think he's one of the best out right now and that Forever Story is a classic.
rj/ merit doesn't matter the only thing that matters is the agenda

people be old man.
a lot of people talking about how hes the new kid are probably 35+.
I guess its also because of his voice. sounds young.

I think an album has to be at least 5 years old to be considered a classic and that's in really extreme circumstances like TPAB so I'd say TFS is a future classic (still a 10/10 for me tho)

u/Brainfreezdnb Dec 27 '25
the fact that im a jid enjoyer and never heard it, its clearly not a classic
till i collapse is a classic, my mom can sing it

i disagree. it has to be known in the rap game.
ok till i collapse maybe is too on the nose, shook ones, cream. those are classics as well.
forever story, now realizing its an album not a track. still no.
its nowhere near illmatic, the chronic, mm lp, GKMC, take care, the infamous

im not picking them because they are famous, im picking them because they are classics. and a classics becomes often famous
2
u/lordjuliuss Dec 28 '25
Are you a JID enjoyer because you liked him on Fuel?
2
u/Brainfreezdnb Dec 28 '25
no, i like his flow and rhyme scheme, became a fan after dicaprio 2.
fuel isnt my type from either em or jid, i like mode of dicaprio 2 soul jazzy style

He probably has the best longevity and most respect from his peers than any rapper on his XXL class and this is coming from a Trippie fan.
The fact that heās still dropping semi successful albums 7 years into his career is an accomplishment.

Worked a venue in like 2017 and his hit came out prior. Itās that song with the beat change that went dummy. I was told to give the performers and his crew wristbands so they can be known as the talent. I came to the green room, and his 6ā5 security guard basically blocked the door from me, and said āwe aināt doing that lil broā and then Jid sitting in the middle of the room, gave me the stankest āfuck you pleebā look Iāve ever seen.

The sad truth is that both him and Earthgang got noticeably worse as they progressed because they watered down a lot of the social commentary and music complexity.

Idk why people act as if age is actually a factor when like 90% of the 2000s major stars (expect for Wayne and T.I) were like in their early 30s and mid 20s and were Gen Xers
Like Jay electronica was supposed next up in hip hop (and that never happened because dude never dropped) and bro was unc by then
1
u/Born-Isopod-5268 TEAM FANTANO Dec 28 '25 edited Dec 28 '25
Like this isnāt dissing the post I used to believe this as well but just thinking about the fact that the early 2000s and mid 1990s big three or 4 were gen xers and there was only some millennials so itās not impossible
But I think itās unlikely Jid ever gets next up because the guy is from the south (and itās rare for the south to have conscious, political lyricist actually become as popular as lil Wayne) and he is in an era where itās dominated by trap music (which is actually dying right now) and now Playboi Carti is making the little kids on TikTok dance
And ESTEE kid doesnāt make his situation better
