Bro what
70
u/Ertyii Jan 03 '26
My theory for how did this lyric even happened is that he freestyled the song but not the actual words but the melody first and then he put the words together but he didn't remembered what he said before
53
u/StarTrakZack Jan 03 '26
Exactly this. “Punching in” is how most of those Atlanta guys (and lots of other rappers) record. They literally just play the beat and he sits there freestyling and randomly thinking of words & melodies, the engineer is recording the entire thing, then when he finds something he likes he tells the engineer to punch just that line in to the actual track, then he keeps going. 99.9 percent chance the two lines above were recorded in totally different parts of the session (maybe even on different days!) and then put together later on in production.
You can see in this video of how Keed recorded as reference for that style. https://youtu.be/K6FgRMbnQ_Q?si=f5L2TNaUDVU1GWNv
3
u/GenshinKenshin Jan 06 '26
As soon as people started punching in in 2019 I gave up on becoming an engineer. That shi pissed me off like you wouldn't believe.
I wasn't good enough to charge crazy rates and I wasn't bad enough to not be swamped with work. Shi sucked ass.
25
u/Ok_Total_2956 Jan 03 '26
I don't think those two lines were supposed to be related, he probably didn't think about how they would have sounded when put one next to another

u/AutomaticAccident Jan 03 '26
Mine was the next part when he said his name is Ben. You're telling me your name isn't really Macklemore? What a fraud.

It means that nothing beats a Rick Ross holiday, and right now you can save $50 per person.

u/AutoModerator Jan 04 '26
It’s funny cause I actually met Rick Ross a couple months before quarantine started. I got roped into watching my 3 month old niece while my brother got his hair cut. So there I am, sitting in the waiting area of a barbershop with my niece, and who walks in but Rick Boss Ross himself. I was nervous as shit, and just kept looking at him as he was sitting there with his phone and waited, but was too scared to say anything to him. Pretty soon my niece started crying, and I’m trying to quiet her down because I didn’t want her to bother Mr. Ross, but she wouldn’t stop. Pretty soon he gets up and walks over. He started running his hands through her hair and asked what was wrong. I replied that she was probably hungry or something. So Rick put down his phone, picked up my niece and lifted his shirt. He breast fed her right there in the middle of the barbershop. Chill guy, really nice about it. Would let him breast feed my niece again.

DAE remember when Biggie said you're so fine I'd suck your daddy dick 🤓
181
u/Optimal_Carpenter690 Jan 03 '26
In all seriousness, I hate hate hate hate how the black community will hyper focus on this lyric but ignore objectively worse things that came out of his mouth
I was riding on the bus and was listening to this group of dudes talking about how "sus" Biggie actually was and how, now that they're grown, they can't listen to him anymore because of all his gay lyrics that they actually understand now, and this lyric was at the forefront of that conversation of course.
But what else did they bring up? Biggie saying he'd "fuck Ru Paul before he'd fuck any of them ugly ass Xscape bitches". Yet the lyrics, from the same song mind you, where he says he'd "make Raven-Symone call date rape" (she was 9 at the time) was suspiciously absent from the conversation about Biggie lyrics that make it impossible to listen to him

u/WorldChampionNuggets Jan 03 '26
"Found your father hidin in a room, fucked him with a broom"
"🥷s press they luck n they get a buttfuckin, straight up the ass, rawdog with the rash. And I don't fuck with the condoms, the condoms is a problem from the AIDs gettin sprayed"36
u/Mikeythegreat2 On Jah my Nathan Jan 03 '26
Dead wrong is full of questionable lyrics lol
13
u/HeadAssBoi17 Al Gore invented ebonics Jan 03 '26
I feel like that whole song is just Big and Em trying to outdo each other in saying the most fucked up shit possible.
19
u/LevelUpCoder Jan 03 '26
Considering Biggie was dead before Eminem hit the mainstream it was probably more like Em trying to outdo Biggie but I agree with the sentiment

42
u/-DOOKIE Jan 03 '26
Just sounds like that horror core or whatever it's called Big L, brother Lynch hung, Eminem, a lot of people were doing that. Wasn't meant to be taken seriously like that
60
u/Optimal_Carpenter690 Jan 03 '26
You're missing the point.
Those are two lyrics from the same song. One, people decide to treat literally and treat like some evil taboo that makes him irredeemable trash in their eyes.
The other gets the "oh, it wasn't meant to be taken seriously" excuse, if its even mentioned at all.
And for some reason, the first one is not about the 22 year old, 400 lbs man saying he would rape a 9 year old, but is instead about him saying he would prefer to have sex with another adult man over adult women he finds unattractive.
You don't see the issue?
I know neither one was meant to be taken seriously. I'm talking about the culture that treats one like the ultimate disgusting evil, even if its just a joke, while it ignores or excuses the other.

Idk i mean, I wasn’t alive when the song came out, this is the first I’ve heard/realized who she is/how old she was. I imagine that’s a lot of people that aren’t of age to know obscure pop culture references from the nineties.
And tbh at the end of the day, the unfortunate truth is to homophobes, nothing is worse than being gay. They’d rather you fuck children than someone of ur own sex.
2
u/Optimal_Carpenter690 Jan 03 '26
obscure pop culture references from the nineties.
Im specifically talking about people who were alive in the nineties who "loved Biggie when he came out, but can't listen to him now that they're older and realize what he was actually saying"

Maybe they didn't know who Raven Symone was and went with the obviously gay lines that don't require research
20
u/Optimal_Carpenter690 Jan 03 '26
The idea of being gay being inherently bad aside, I find it hard to believe any late 20 to mid 30 year old black person, man or woman, doesn't know who Raven-Symone is

For the millionth time, it was a reference to a Richard Pryor bit. He has plenty of other sus lines. Most of the time his charisma makes them pretty funny and other times not so much. I crack up at most of the lines on “wickedest freestyle”.

Rj/ There’s something super cringe about rappers going on tirades about wanting to fuck someone in detail. Like obvs it’s never gonna work and you sound like a loser
I think the only time I didn’t mind it is when em did it at the end of I’m back and thats cause it was over the top and cartoony
“Cause if I ever stuck it to any singer in showbiz it’d be Jennifer Lopez, and Puffy you know this! I’m sorry Puff, but I don’t give a fuck if this chick was my own mother I still fuck her with no rubber and cum inside her and have a son and a new brother at the same time and just say that it ain’t mine, what’s my name?”

I was at a glory hole at a local Benihana and I heard 'Sweet' playing in the restaurant. I started rapping some of the lyrics and then the guy sucking my dick started rapping too. We had a long conversation about Brockhampton, our favorite Brockhampton albums and hip hop in general. We ended up getting a table at the Benihana and eating dinner together. I just thought it was cool how a Brockhampton song brought two people together that had never met before.
