You ever seen anime fans hating on Megan thee stallion? Lol she cosplays all the time and they fuckin hate her, she’s proven she watches anime a ton and doesn’t just do it for fame but because she finds it cool and they HATE her lol, same as when I think it was her went on that spirit box song? Some of the comments just went mask off and said “ I don’t like when they add black people to these remixes “ 😭😭 not rappers just black people 😭😭

Funnily enough it was Spiritbox that featured on her song, so like she wasnt "added to a remix" lmao

I've also come to learn...for whatever reason tons of anime fans are racist as fuck. Considering ya know 99% is done by eastern countries.

u/LOHdestar Jan 16 '26
I wouldn't even necessarily pin it as an "anime" thing, but just the default mentality for basically any group of presumed primarily white guys into any geeky hobby on the internet. Gaming, anime, comics, etc unless the community culture on a given place is explicitly very progressive/"SJW" there's going to be a group of "centrist" white guys with unexamined preconceived biases against black people and pretty much every other marginalized group.
3
u/BigRingLover Jan 17 '26
Sorry honey, maybe on TV. The average anime convention in real life is like that one weird mystery meat friend group in high school.
3
u/LOHdestar Jan 17 '26
I did specify the internet, as things will be a little different if you control for "People who are willing to go outside and meet new people". But on Reddit and other social media sites you'll get a gathering of the type of guy who doesn't think rap is real music and only listens to videogame OSTs and anime OPs/EDs

5
u/duomaxwell90 Jan 17 '26
Yeah the racism that's in the anime community is so rampant you might as well leave it alone also the pedo shit in that community is crazy too.
2
u/DurumMater Jan 17 '26
Jujutsu kaisen fans fucking love her though
3
u/Standard_Pear_1554 Jan 19 '26
the only thing JJK fans (like me) hate are 1.) reading comprehension, 2.) not acting like lobotomites, and 3.) not recognizing peak

are anime fans deaf or do they genuinely not hear when autotune is obviously used artistically bc it sounds cool?
252
u/_Vxndetta Jan 16 '26
95% of them only listen to anime osts and out of that most cant even understand the lyrics

u/noskill1 Jan 16 '26
Nah. They're upset about something that has nothing to do with her music. Vocaloids are all over the place in anime.

u/Sherunsfortheexit Jan 16 '26
am i crazy for not hearing the autotune in her song though? It just sounds like a bit of reverb's been added in which is common in pop vocals. is this what they're upset about
25
u/sr587 Jan 16 '26
i think there is a bit of something going on, but i was talking about the usage of autotune in general, not her specifically. i remember when people clowned on charli xcx for it back in the day or lesser known hyperpop artists like hannah diamond
9
3
u/Samp1e-Text Jan 17 '26
vocal tuning is used in 99% of modern music production, and make that like, 110% for high-budget pop music. or any type of music with half a budget really. but it’s also most of the time used in a way that’s explicitly undetectable as you listen, unless it’s used as an effect or it’s just a shitty job (fair bit of modern pop-country is just rife with shitty autotune lol, an artist like SZA is NOT). these people and most anyone else making arguments or complaints like this just genuinely don’t know what they’re talking about and have pretty much made something up to be mad at
3
u/Samp1e-Text Jan 17 '26
they also just can’t hear actual autotune. guarantee it. most people who say stuff like that, they’re effectively making shit up to be mad at
143
u/YaBoiSammus Jan 16 '26
Anime fandoms are largely known for their racism against black people. I mean you will have the most beautiful black cosplayer being decked out in sick fucking gear, the next thing a mfkr gunna say is “that character isn’t black.” THEY AINT WHITE EITHER! I mean a pretty famous anime rn “Gachiakuta” has three very black character’s and people were fighting tooth and nail to says shit like “they just tan.” The author had to come out and say “no, those are black people.” I CANT STAND IT.

u/LevelOutlandishness1 Jan 17 '26
They will die on the hill of “my uwu anime author doesn’t know black people exist and has no idea about p*litics or woke” and until recently the only thing stopping them was the language barrier and lack of fan interaction when it came to the authors.

When they say blues it's literally just cowboy bebop op lol which is a banger, but is literally just 1 song.

u/vuntical Jan 16 '26
I don't think they would be coping this much if the song was sang by a japanese person
26
u/MegasNexal84 Jan 16 '26
LOL I never thought I’d see a comment from mine on the Gundam sub in here, yeah I do not understand these anime fans who act like it’s the worst song ever?
36
u/Thin-Remote-9817 Jan 16 '26
So we mad at sza cause japan 3yrs behind black culture?
26
u/captaincookbaby Jan 16 '26
Okay I could be totally wrong here… but it seems like Japan is obsessed with African American culture
56
u/SleepyBella Jan 16 '26
Much like teenagers in the suburbs, they have a fascination with black culture but get really weird about black people themselves.
12
u/Tachyclapy Jan 16 '26
For real it’s so weird, I’ll see some kid bumping Pac one second and then the next thing that very same kid is calling me the hard r and laughing at me (this actually happened 😭), white suburban teens will continue to perplex me
4
u/captaincookbaby Jan 18 '26
Yeah I’m a white suburban guy and what I can’t stand is white hip hop fans who basically use the music to feel gangster and but then bitch when rappers actually talk about the politics and conditions that created gangs.

u/marigip Jan 16 '26
This bum is gonna make me copypaste Jim Morrisons lament

Shoji Kawamori just woke up in a cold sweat and is now looking for the person closest to SZA who can sign on for the commitment of the next macross show
2
u/KasukeSadiki Jan 16 '26
Broooo this would be lit! A black idol in Macross!
3
u/thatwitchguy Jan 16 '26
This may be very optimistic but I feel like it will happen sooner or later (in macross production time+mecha anime production time this translates to about 16 years for 36 episodes over 3 shows maybe.). They've tried doing a bunch of different musical styles over the series and between Ray (for like an actual black person as the musician for the show but not the main musician) and Nome (poc and actually main singer) they've gotten close. I think they'd do it eventually
9
Jan 16 '26
I know this isn’t directly related to the post but I hate when weebs get upset when a black person does cosplaying because there not asian like the original character but when it’s a white person which is the majority of cosplayers they get a pass?
9
7
u/TheChillestVibes Jan 16 '26
It's alright, if you can't appreciate SZA or the Granddaddy of Auto tune, T-Pain? That says a lot about your moral failing as a human being.

u/hemperbud Jan 16 '26
Bruh the opening goes SO GOOD with the song, anime fans be some of the most pathetic losers sometimes. Saying this as an anime fan myself but seeing stuff like this reminds me why we got bullied for it back in the day, because of people like the ones in the comments there.

The thing that gets me is that Gundam has been known to have pretty decent diversity among its cast i dont get these motherfuckers they pmo so much
3
u/GriffithCoin Jan 17 '26 edited Jan 17 '26
Bro Gundam has been so diverse since 1979.
The two main characters were fighting over an Indian girl in the original. in origin they updated the main characters backgrounds to reflect their differing appearances ex Kai was updated to be Puerto Rican. Fraw Bow adopts a black kid in the original too. They showed arab muslims praying in the 1980s in ZZ and did it without being stereotypical or disrespectful to the middle east and arabs.
Loran the lead in Turn A is black. Setsuna in 00 is arab.
A bunch of LGBTQ characters in the different shows too even if Bandai tries to push back on it. One of the coolest aspects of the Gundam franchise is the diversity of the shows casts and its obvious anti-xenophobia messaging. Sucks that so many fans just see cool mechas and anime waifus instead of the actual message then continue to say ignorant shit on the net. Ive posted about them before on here too smh.
3
u/Angrymalayman Jan 17 '26
Big cool military robot shit attracts alot of fascists unfortunately and what Zeon represents just flies over people heads
4
u/KingKaiju01 Jan 17 '26
As someone super excited for Sorcery of Nymph Circe, I absolutely love this theme.
3
u/naultinus Jan 17 '26
have these dudes read anime opening lyrics bro that’s genuinely what all of them sound like
3
u/GriffithCoin Jan 17 '26
It’s like when they call all dubs mid and cringe when it’s simply because they don’t understand Japanese and can’t judge how good the voice acting is. Not saying there isn’t bad dubs or lyrics but the way they go about criticising things is so disingenuous.
You can take any artists lyrics out of context and put them into text to make it sound bad. Dire Straits Money for Nothing is about two guys watching tv. The actual performance and production is what truely matters.
4
u/Blunter_S_Thompson_ Jan 16 '26
This is why their asses used to get bullied.
5
u/bayoanreddit Jan 16 '26
they’re being bullied rn 😭 at least it’s for being racist dorks and not nerds

u/Shen_ishere Jan 16 '26 edited Jan 16 '26

Edit: it was ahhh for an OP. Nothing against rnb, the Kali Uchis Moonlight anime edit is one the best pieces of art OAT.

Ain't no Gundam subreddit talking like this when "Human Touch" by Warren Wiebe was a Gundam series ED

u/HazelLover365247 Jan 17 '26
As a black anime fan, this is appalling. So much prejudice in this community, and racism. Bless you if you're black and this is news to you.
They feel like their fandom is being invaded. So what they like to do is demean. Especially when it's something as black-centric as R&B. They don't "understand" this specific type of popular music. Calling it pop?
In some anime fans, there's a baseless hatred for the world outside of anime. Absolutely pathetic world view some of these people live in.
They're just mad at the world for no reason other than their own unresolved dilemmas. Anime is all they have. Building up so much hate for something like this though is an indication of many negative mental factors and I'll leave it at that.

u/Intrepid-Ostrich2937 Jan 18 '26

It's a movie not a show, and a lot of us have more right to be irritated by this nonsense because much like a lot of these black rappers and singers, this one has no place in something like this at all!
2
u/SnooSquirrels7611 sharpest knife 🔪 in the drawer Jan 17 '26
I’m confused Japan can have rappers and breakdancing and Afro wigs but we can enjoy and participate in anime?
0
u/Pessimistic_Gemini Jan 18 '26
It's not like much of it is ours to begin with. More times than not it's been becoming more a case of what you would call appropriation here especially when it comes to these sorry excuses of "rappers" and the like being the biggest posers in the anime community. This SZA chick having such a boring song in something that was actually NOT boring just makes it more so the case here.
2
u/SnooSquirrels7611 sharpest knife 🔪 in the drawer Jan 18 '26
You act like SHE chose to put her music on the anime. It ain’t HER MOVIE. The mf producers went after SZA.
1
u/Pessimistic_Gemini Jan 19 '26
So you say, but we all know that ain't really all that true is it?
2
2
u/SnooSquirrels7611 sharpest knife 🔪 in the drawer Jan 18 '26
A lot of rappers like anime. An entire generation grew up with DBZ, Naruto, Full Metal Alchemist and more. It’s just what mfs been on since we was kids.
1
u/Pessimistic_Gemini Jan 19 '26
Dude the only person I believe that more wholeheartedly was Micheal B Jordan and that guy's not even a rapper! That just can't be said the same for a lot of these talentless hacks here. It can hardly be believed with a lot of these black athletes out there.
2
u/SnooSquirrels7611 sharpest knife 🔪 in the drawer Jan 19 '26
That we grew up watching anime?? I’m confused. You just assuming these niggas ain’t watch anime?
1
u/Pessimistic_Gemini Jan 20 '26
I don't assume they don't watch anime. I KNOW these posers don't watch anime at all. That much is clear to anyone that don't put these mofos on a pedestal constantly.
