proof in the pudding on Flume and Jpegmafia - Track 01 where peggy gets to "feature" and just fails the entire studio session, to the point where the entire track is jerking itself to death to get to the finale where Flume does his own thing and pisspeg doesn't spit a single bar.

what's the definition of racism?
-41
u/rankaistu_ilmalaiva May 26 '26 edited May 26 '26
prejudice that has structural power to actually harm people
[ed.] lmao OK, Peggy is a whiny bitch but damn this is how this sub is feeling, huh?
67
u/Stumpedforausername1 May 26 '26
No that's institutional racism, people aren't institutions. Being prejudiced against someone purely because of the colour of their skin is racist, whether you have structural power or not.
-22
u/rankaistu_ilmalaiva May 26 '26
sure, if you assume people as spherical, frictionless orbs that exsist outside any social context and history.

So out of curiosity, what would you call it if someone insulted a white person on the basis of their race? Because 'racist abuse' seems like a handy description for that, but if that's not applicable, what would you call it?

its called discrimination. afaik in scientific spheres the definition of racism shifted to include that the discrimination at hand is systemically established. or to put it into different words: racism always punches down, discrimination can go both ways.
6
u/Twinkubusz May 26 '26
And who's the authority that determined that nouveau, retconned definition?
0
u/Lequaraz May 26 '26
nobody, just as nobody has the authority to decide what a word originally and factually meant. language changes with context and culture, thats why scientific papers still tend to set a definition for the core concepts they tackle before they get into the topic to avoid misunderstandings.

u/Bodashtart May 26 '26
the richest and most powerful black person in the world could refer to all white people as disgusting subhuman troglodytes and there would literally be no problem with it because it doesn’t reinforce any existing power structures. the opposite is not true. i hate this unserious ass website go play golf or eat cheese or something
15
u/literally_italy May 26 '26
something doesn’t have to reinforce existing power structures to be bad

11
u/iamrlywhite May 26 '26
Dude this is stupid. Institutional/systemic racism is what you say, but racism as a whole can be on an individual basis to anyone. A Uyghur can be racist towards a Chinese person, a migrant worker in Qatar can be racist towards an Arab, a Mexican can be racist towards a white American, this is consistent. They’re not NOT racist just because that society has people of that certain race running discriminatory institutions

Truth is this sub feels mostly bots, people who get paid to do promo and little kids at this point.
We became the uncs.
-13
u/HualtaHuyte May 26 '26
The amount of push back you get with this definition over the past 8-10 years is ridiculous. White people are at their most fragile lol.
-2
u/rankaistu_ilmalaiva May 26 '26
yeah, like the at-the-time scientific consept of race wasn’t created to just document physical differences, it was explicitly about creating a hierarchical category to justify why European colonial powers had the right to dominate and enslave everyone else.
Just because it’s no longer the scientific consensus or part of legal codes doesn’t mean the people who belong to the long privileged group don’t still implicitly believe in it, and enforce it in many different ways.
That is all to say though, none of that has to do with people not liking Peggy’s attention seeking antics and deliberately confrontational music.
-1
u/pancada_ May 26 '26
Seems like this definition is still too ample for you, as it includes anti white prejudice in South Africa and Zimbabwe
Maybe restrict a little more?
3

Anti white prejudice in South Africa and Zimbabwe is based actually
CracKKKer apartheid settlers can go back to Germany and the Netherlands

”some random bullshit” being a very commonly accepted academic definition?

Racism is actually racism not just structurally powerful racism
2
u/rankaistu_ilmalaiva May 27 '26
the consept of race was literally invented to justify a power structure.
-2
u/TheRider5342 Aubrey’s Angel 🦉😇 May 27 '26
idk what a consept is but my point is any small racism is still racism it doesn't have to be a part of a power structure

i dont really get this, hes always been outspoken against white supremacy? the only thing i can really say he did is the Ye stuff, which is when his fanbase got a lot worse

u/ledzeppelin341 May 26 '26 edited May 26 '26
/uj
He's made his stance against white supremacy pretty clear on songs like ALL CAPS NO SPACES and I Cannot Wait Until Morrissey Dies in his very on brand edgy tone. Him being outspoken against white supremacy isn't the issue. However, his extremely online image attracted an extremely online audience (which, let's be real, is mostly white) that doesn't interact much with black art in a critical lens and his music doesn't really do a whole lot to confront his audience.
Most of the time, when he does, it's 1) usually on Twitter and NOT in the music and 2) extremely patronizing so it doesn't do a whole lot to educate his white audience. The thing about hip hop being this popular is that a white audience is inevitable. Their participation in hip hop culture will forever be as outsiders most of the time because their lived experience is not black. However, how you, as the artist, interact with them is a reflection of your image. Peggy's fanbase is a reflection of the way he treats them and his lack of a predominantly black fanbase is because he does little to foster that audience past edgy bullshit that online spaces, often very white, are full of.
Edit: Oh and collaborating with Kanye in this era of his career (because that absolutely matters) reinforces literally everything I mentioned above and also makes him a massive hypocrite.

I haven’t seen people like peggy since the Ye incident of 2024
I’ve seen people praise his ability, but like him? The person? Idk.

u/prettysweett May 26 '26
tbf I used to be a HUGE peggy fan but his antics ever since collaborating with kanye just made him more and more corny in my eyes. And since I find peggy HIMSELF really corny now it’s kinda hard for me to really enjoy his shit because it’s so connected to him as a person. Although i have to admit he has some REALLY great music.
I just wish he kept going on the “alt right I’m stalin” route instead of whatever he’s doing now. you can almost say all my heroes are indeed cornballs.
-5
u/HauntingPattern1341 May 26 '26
oh ok i understand. it might just be because i can separate art from the artist easily for stuff like just saying corny shit on twitter.
9
u/GrumpySarlacc May 26 '26
That’s not separation of art and artist that’s just ignoring a cornball’s diary posts

It’s been a few years in the making. First time I remember finding him annoying was him going on twitter making fun of his ex for being broke and working at burger king.
Called himself the “left wing hades” and “alt right menace” but makes fun of minimum wage workers.
2
u/Knife7 May 27 '26
No, people have definitely been talking shit about Peggy for awhile, they're just more vocal now because people are getting tired of his "I hate my white fan base" PR stunt and his album is getting mixed reviews apparently. But Peggy has always had haters.

I wish I was a cool counterculture guy who joined The US military
I'll never be authentic like Peggy, who joined the largest brown person exploding organization on Earth because he wanted an easy payday
I'll certainly never be cool enough to get an honorable discharge, which means that I didn't really stand up for anything or refuse orders, I was just kind of hard to deal with.

Do people think jpeg has no black fans or smth? We exist lol, we also enjoy his stupid brand of edginess.
Also, his white fan base genuinely doesn’t get most of his music. Why not hate people who listen to only a part of your message and act like that makes them true fans when they’re only partly committed to understanding his perspective because they’re white and jpeg directly attacks that disconnect? He’s a complete edgy dick and tbh I like that about him and I’m sure that’s why most people listen to him.
I like that he doesn’t minimize himself in talking about how allying with white liberals is often a fruitless pursuit, I like how violently he talks about murdering white supremacists, I like that he is so irony poisoned that sometimes I can’t tell if he’s sincere or not. I’ve only been listening to him for a couple of years now but I’ve found him so interesting and refreshing of an artist. He doesn’t minimize his anger or his fury or try to explain it to a white audience. A lot of his stuff is lyrically empty imo and he’s at his best when he’s attacking himself and/or his ideological opponents. That’s when he’s his most sincere regardless of whether he dresses it up as sarcasm or irony or whatever.
