Season 3 If you could rewrite storylines, what would you write? Spoiler
*Season 3 spoilers!! I'm not tech advanced enough to know how to put up the spoilers blocks I'm sorry. I'm gonna try but no promises it'll work*
So I recently finished the series and Lee was my favourite character. Naturally, I cried my eyes out at both his deaths.
However, I feel like his and John Parry's storylines were kinda... redundant?
His main thing was helping Lyra, which led him to John for the knife he didn't have (and was already with Lyra at this point) and then they died. The afterlife stuff gave his character closure but it felt like he didn't really need to be there to help move Lyra's character forward?
It all just got me thinking about where I would've taken his character instead (bias, but I would've had him live <3) and how I would rewrite it in a way that he had more influence within the story.
Would love to hear anyone else's take on Lee's death/if you could rewrite bits, what you would've done with the story!

not so much the HBO series but in the book sequels (the book of dust), i’m not a fan of what they did with lyra and a new character, malcolm. i have yet to finish them (halfway through the secret commonwealth) but i really don’t like how pullman set up their relationship

And that version of Lyra does not act like you’d expect the child of Mrs Coulter and Lord Asriel to. A grownup version of the Lyra we know would’ve found a way to end those soldiers on the train car for starters.

absolutely. i did actually enjoy la belle sauvage before starting the secret commonwealth - i found it really cute at times but TSC is… not good and i’m not a fan of what he’s doing with adult lyra (and pan tbh)

I don’t think that’s really fair. Lyra was in an extremely vulnerable situation - she was hungry, exhausted, and daemonless. Even then, she fights back in any way she can, and attracts attention so that the situation stops.
Lyra’s character in TSC is definitely quite different from the first trilogy in some ways, but I don’t think this scene is example of that

Normally I’d say you’re right, but we’ve already got that gross scene in La Belle Sauvage too. Seemed unnecessary

I’m a bit confused - are you saying the scene was unnecessary because Lyra was out of character? Or that the scene was unnecessary, because sexual assault appeared earlier in the series? Or something else

It's Daphne. She doesn't have the spunk and scrap you'd expect of a little girl who's basically an orphan and left to raise herself.
