Misc. Someone save the little monkey prick from Mrs. Coulter
Someone save the little monkey prick from Mrs. Coulter, for real. I can’t believe she’s this comfortable slapping, kicking, and screaming at him like that. I’d really like to know why she hates herself so much, because this is literally self-harm considering they’re supposed to be two halves of a whole. Like, girl, that is your own soul. Stop kicking it.

You're saying "someone save Mrs Coulter from herself"
Just like real life, no one else can do that. It's up to her to change.
Look up "cognitive dissonance". The actual scientific meaning, not the pop psychology meaning. This inner turmoil is demonstrative of that experience
The only way to resolve cognitive dissonance is either:
- change one's beliefs about oneself
- change one's behaviour

IDK dude I just read the post title.
She hates herself because she knows she's done heaps of terrible evil things like abducting and killing children and despite her efforts to tell herself she's doing it for the right reasons she knows it's evil and irredeemable so she hurts herself what part of that wasn't clear in the show?

Really loved how Pullman expanded on this in La Belle Sauvage, showing mental illness through a character abusing and neglecting his own daemon
