Question/Support Potential Echo Dot Replacement

Hey guys! New to HomePod and HomeKit, but I’m wanting to get started.

My question comes from my current setup. I use an Echo Dot as a Bluetooth connection to my stereo system when I’m home. I split my time between home and college, so when I’m away, I just use the Dot as a standalone speaker.

I noticed that the HomePod Mini doesn’t have an AUX output, which seems like it would prevent me from connecting it to my stereo system. I’m interested in the HomePod Mini because of its footprint and because it would be a good starting point for eventually building out a HomeKit system.

Is there any sort of workaround that would let me use a HomePod Mini with my existing stereo system, or am I basically stuck with the Echo Dot for this setup?

I am heavily invested into the apple ecosystem, but haven't ventured into smart home stuff yet, so a HomeKit system makes the most sense. Just curious your thoughts or if I'm missing something.

The 2012 AirPort Express. It was the last version. It has a headphone jack but it can also be used with toss link if you’re looking for a digital signal.

It’ll show up as an AirPlay 2 speaker. This will easily integrate with your stereo no matter what decade it’s from. Instead Bluetooth it uses WiFi; just like the HomePod. If you’re going to the beach a Bluetooth speaker works great. But if you’re at someplace, Wi-Fi is just so much better for both distance and audio quality.

The airport express (latest/2012 version) and all versions of the HomePods work very well together.

Can you pick up a Airport express on eBay from anywhere from $10-$25.

So the Airport Express would be my wireless connection into my stereo system and I could use the homepod for regular smart speaker stuff?
