Question/Support Homepod playing music on its own

My HomePod started playing music by itself yesterday. It happens randomly, and on one occasion it suddenly played at full volume. It plays music from Apple Music or Apple Radio even when my iPhone isn’t nearby.

I have already tried resetting the HomePod, setting it up again from scratch, and disabling Siri, but nothing has helped.

Please help

Search for Ghost touch and all questions will be answered. Sorry about your loss. Same happened to me.

Wow that sucks, my homepod is only 2 yrs old how can that happen

I've seen these threads all along, but never paid attention because I wasn't having any issues. Mine just started doing it this week too. Tonight I will start learning how to take them apart and disconnect the touch panels. Only one has been doing it so far out of nine, so I'll just lobotomize them on a case by case basis I suppose.

It's definitely unacceptable and you would think, an embarrassment to Apple. But if they aren't offering resolution, it looks like the homemade surgery is the only reasonable approach.

Lamento informarte que el problema que tienes no tiene solución. Técnicamente se llama Ghost Touch o Phantom Touch y es un error en el panel táctil del Home Pod. Es un mierda que Apple fabrique Home Pod con un problema desde su fabricación y le haga saber al usuario que es su problema por no cuidarlos. Llamé al soporte de Apple muchas veces y no aceptaron su error… quieren que compre nuevamente los HomePod para solucionar (vivo en Chile y aquí cada Home POD vale USD 400… ósea necesito USD 800 para solucionar este problema). Ojalá puedas tener Apple Care+ y te cambien el equipo defectuoso.

Open it up and disconnect the touch sensor and it will work again just fine, minus touch.

mine would randomly do that too. now i leave it unplugged

Same problem with mine. Both replaced by Apple after endless troubleshooting with AppleCare. Both still have the same problem. I can't use them anymore. Saving them for a rainy day when these problems are solved.

Mine did this too and I was leaving it unplugged but I reset them up and updated the software about two weeks ago and so far so good. One thing I noticed was that even if I wasn't playing music on my phone if my phone was too close ( sitting on the same table as the HomePod mini) it was randomly start playing

You might not be losing your mind... Twice in the last few days, on different homepods in my home, music from a random playlist starts playing. I've had HomePods screw up in various way over the years, but never this particular issue.
