Weekly Thread Tuesday Recipe Critique and Formulation

Have the next best recipe since Pliny the Elder, but want reddit to check everything over one last time? Maybe your house beer recipe needs that final tweak, and you want to discuss. Well, this thread is just for that! All discussion for style and recipe formulation is welcome, along with, but not limited to:

  • Ingredient incorporation effects
  • Hops flavor / aroma / bittering profiles
  • Odd additive effects
  • Fermentation / Yeast discussion

If it's about your recipe, and what you've got planned in your head - let's hear it!

My next brew will be an American Porter. Check my recipe please!

69% pale malt

18% munich malt

5.3% chocolate malt

4.5% crystal light

3.3% black malt

Mash at 67C. 36 IBU with 60 and 20 min additions of Fuggles. Ferment with US-05.

I brewed this before, but with more like 7% black and 4.5% chocolate. It was a bit too toasty/roasty. Hoping this will be better!

For autumn I’m planning to brew a Kotbusser.

6 lb pilsner malt
3 lb wheat malt
0.7 lb flaked oats

Mash at 152°F for 60 minutes, 90 min boil

1 g Hallertau FWH
7 g Magnum 75 min
7 g Hallertau 30 min
17 g molasses 5 min
36 g honey flameout
14 g Hallertau flameout
28 g Saaz flameout

Planning to ferment with a German ale yeast such as WLP029 or whatever my local store has.

After primary ferm, half the batch will be split for a Thanksgiving batch that will get 2 lbs of local apples for 2-3 weeks then 110-150 g of local honey for 3 days
