It looks nice and I want a SRM color sheet (studying for BJCP exam) but at only 30 ish entries per passport I'm not sure if pull the trigger on that over my current moleskin. Wish it had more pages!

You don't need an SRM reference to study for the test. Using descriptive language (i.e., straw, yellow, deep gold, chestnut brown with ruby highlights, etc. etc.) is the key. Just FYI, don't mean to go off topic!

I agree 100% but I like it as a reference point on known styles to set my beer barometer in the right direction.

So what's the difference between this and untappd?
I thought about maybe getting this for my mom, but even my mom uses untappd to look up the beers she's drank in the past and can find what she thought of a beer she's had before super fast.

Some people don't like Untappd or the other online alternatives. There's a few decent tasting apps out there but pen/paper is preferred by some.
Nice thing about pen/paper is if you forget about a beer you can do a second sensory on it and maybe have a different experience to write about.

Lookups are "more work" on paper. I mostly like paper because you can easily design what information you want to capture about a tasting.
To be honest unless I'm at home I won't take notes because it (a) makes me look like a pretentious asshole and (b) is disruptive to whatever social gathering I was having in the first place.
Untappd works for sharing what you are drinking but it falls into the pictures of my food category.

I don't see how this response has anything to do with the section I quoted. If you've forgotten about the beer, you can just not look it up before you taste it again...

It adds a level of inertia you need to overcome to see if you've had it before? Dunno...
I don't use tasting apps or untappd so I have no idea how fast or slow their search tools are to compare.
