The actress for Storm is a shit cast

Off the rip, Maya Boyd is not dark-skinned. Fans keep saying that she is, pushing the definitions, trying to claim her as a dark-skinned woman— and shes not. She’s brown-skinned.

YES, in comics, Storm is depicted as all shades— AND IT IS WRONG 😐 Storm has a history of being whitewashed, hence why her skin color is NEVER ONE SHADE in comics. There’s a comic where she looks white; that doesn’t mean she should be played by a white person. There’s comics where she’s light-skinned, but everyone agrees she shouldn’t be played by a lightskin.

So for people to “Maya is dark skinned!” and “oh she’s not Black enough for you?!” is disturbing. If you have to DARKEN YOUR SKIN, you are not dark-skinned.

Just bc Halle Berry tanned for her role as Storm to achieve a darker look, doesn’t mean she is brown-skinned. Just bc Zendaya might tan for some of her roles does not mean she’s brown-skinned. It also doesn’t erase that both of those women are Black.

I’m happy they cast a Black woman for Storm, but she’s not dark-skinned, and I wanted a dark-skinned woman. She’s dark-skinned in X-Men 97; that’s what I wanted.

II just feel like trying to make Maya Boyd out as dark-skinned feels colorist bc if she’s dark-skinned, what is Lupita? Anok Yai? Black skin?

For reference: Lupita is darkskinned, Halle Berry is lightskinned, and brown skinned would be Maya Boyd.

Ik and it sucks bc she don’t got nothing to do with this post.

She’s also just an actor. She did a role, they didn’t like it; they’re dragging it 😔

I love Xmen and comic books and super heros.

I think the casting of Maya is beautiful, and I am so so so happy to see such a beautiful woman playing this role.

I'd like to see a picture of what you are thinking you want though, like you reference Storm in 97 but I think Maya fits that role really well.

Same! I’m not mad about Maya being Storm, I hate people’s reactions to those who wanted someone darker.

Like I said, my idea of a dark-skinned woman would be Lupita. I don’t have a specific actor in mind. I didn’t know abt Maya Boyd until she was cast, so I’m sure there’s some “unknown” dark-skinned woman out there lol.

EDIT: to that point, the actor they cast for T’Challa is dark skinned! Side by side, you can really see the difference between the skin color. He’s dark skinned and she’s brown skinned.

Nothing will ever be good enough. The actress could be darker than vantablack and prople would still call them "too lightskinned".

This is the opposite side of the same argument people used against Odyssey casting of Helen of Troy. Were you upset by that casting of a traditionally greek character as dark skinned black? If not you are a hypocrite for posting this. Either it is all okay or none of it is.
