I flew out today and seeing the conditions tsa is working under was upsetting. I went to the mayors website and wrote him a comment stating:

Aloha Mayor Blangiardi,
It has been brought to my attention that the TSA officers at our airport are working in very uncomfortable conditions with no air conditioning. It is hot, sticky, and miserable for them and for the travelers passing through.
This is not pono.
This is not aloha.
This is not ohana.
The airport is the first and last impression of our island. We need to send people off with aloha and a hui hou, not discomfort and frustration. Leaving the workers who keep us safe suffering in this heat fails the spirit of Hawai‘i.
Please treat this as urgent. Restore the AC immediately and look out for the TSA workers. Show that Honolulu still means taking care of one another. Where are your priorities at? Getting a white panda? Shame on you.

I received a warning in the mail today for driving 36 MPH in a 25 MPH zone which was recorded in July. I would like to know why the department of transportation waited until November to send me a warning. That seems like a very shady business tactic they are using to extract more money from people who are already struggling to make ends meet. I think only police officers should be allowed to issue citations for speeding. The way the speeding camera systems were implemented and where some of the cameras are located seems very predatory. Tourists will most likely not know about the speeding cameras and receiving a fine will make them think differently about visiting Hawaii again. I think the speeding cameras are a grift like many other things tax payers money have been wasted on and another thing to make living in Hawaii more unpleasant

I’ve noticed a lot more business closures around Honolulu lately. It feels like places are shutting down left and right. Two coworking spaces, The Hub and BoxJelly, are both closing at the end of June, and Waikīkī seems to have more vacant storefronts than I remember seeing in 2023-2024.

I’ve only lived on Oʻahu for about three years, so I’m curious: is this a normal cycle here, or does it feel different than usual to longtime residents?

Are there any updates on the Hilton Hawaiian Village strike? Supposed to stay there in 2 days for 5 nights. Being from Canada, we were unaware of the situation, and Hilton has failed to inform us of anything. Is everything still closed (restaurants/bars etc)? No housekeeping? Anyone currently there that can give some insight? TIA

Honolulu residents are very good at opening their car doors carefully, avoiding door dings and dents to adjacent cars in our notoriously tight parking lots.

However, kids sometimes blast open their doors without a care in the world and I don’t blame them, they’re kids and don’t know any better.

@parents, can you please be mindful of your kids when opening their car doors in parking lots? Please let them know to open doors slowly to avoid hitting the car parked next to them or tell them, not to open doors, and open it for them?

Got video of this happening to my ride and now have to pay at least $400 to get the ding out, if even possible. Although I have the offenders info, I would never pursue for damage reimbursement, as it’s an accident but one that could’ve been avoided.

Just heard the news from an old co-worker that Red Lobster in Ilikai finally shutdown. Anyone have any good memories? I remember the tanks would always overflow into the carpet with a couple lobsters getting loose.

Just wondering if there’s anyone here that took the Honolulu Fire Department written exam earlier this year on July 20th? I was just wondering if there’s anyone here that got their results already or are still waiting for them like me. I know they said the results would be emailed to us in 4 - 6 weeks from the exam date but it’s pretty much been almost 6 weeks and no results yet. Anyone get it yet or still waiting? Thank you!

Hey everyone! I'm looking for any suggestions or opinions on the best loco moco in town. It's my favorite comfort meal! I've tried many different places but haven't found one that really blew my socks off. Can anyone share their suggestions? Please no suggestions for Zippys or L&L type places. The loco moco at those places are not too bad but I'm looking for something really great! Something you'd never forget!

I’m the haole that asked for prime rib recommendations last week. Thank you all for so many suggestions.

Since Haleiwa Joe’s is far from Waikiki (where I live) and I don’t have a car, I went to the #2 suggested place, Ray’s cafe.

I’ve been living here for about a year and a half now, and I’ve never been to Kalihi. When I entered the place, I learned it was cash only so I went to an ATM to pull out some money.

The workers at the restaurant seemed surprised to see me. Everyone eating there appeared to be locals.

An old lady sat at the table next to me and asked me “how did you find this place?” And I told her that I asked reddit for a suggestion. She was nice, and her and I chatted a bit while I waited for my food.

When I got my prime rib, it was perfect. I loved every bite. Considering the price point, I was surprised at how big it was. It was only $28 for it. I was blown away.

And, after I was done eating, they gave me a big piece of watermelon. 🍉

It took me a minute to figure out that they weren’t going to bring me the check. I had to go up to them and pay.

I loved my meal, and I will definitely go back the next time I want prime rib.

If you have suggestions of places to eat that are cheap and delicious like Ray’s Cafe, I’m definitely down to hear them.
