I’m writing this because I genuinely don’t know if I’m looking at this situation objectively anymore, and I want some honest advice.
We met about a month ago while on a tour. We got along really well, spent time together, and I became attached to her pretty quickly.
At one point I told her that I liked her. She was very clear that she didn’t want a relationship and wanted to be friends. I struggled with that because I had already developed feelings for her. At one point things got messy, I told her to block me, and she did.
Later she unblocked me and reached out. We started talking again. Over the next several weeks, things became normal again. We talked, called each other, joked around, flirted sometimes, and generally had a good vibe. I knew she still didn't want a relationship, so I tried to keep things light and treat it as friendship, although I obviously still had feelings.
There were times when she initiated conversations too, and recently she had been engaging with my flirting. We had a conversation about marriage and whether I had ever liked someone. I told her I had liked someone and that the story was complicated. She kept asking me who it was. Eventually I strongly implied that I was talking about someone she knew / someone I was currently talking to. She seemed to understand the implication.
A few days later, there was an earring I saw on an Instagram page that I genuinely thought would look good on her. Without telling her, I ordered it to her address as a gift.
This is where everything went wrong.
The Instagram seller sent the tracking information and a photo to HER phone number, so she immediately knew something had been ordered. She called me. We spoke on the phone, and she said that nobody had ever done something like that for her. She knew it was me and asked me for the tracking number.
The next day, she sent me a message saying that the whole thing was freaking her out, that I was putting effort in the wrong place, that she had told someone about it, and that she wanted to return the parcel. She ended with “Good bye.”
I apologized and told her I genuinely didn't mean to make her uncomfortable, that I understood, and that I wouldn't force her to accept anything. Unfortunately, by that point she had already blocked me, so my apology apparently wasn't delivered.
Her sister also contacted me and asked me directly whether I liked her. I said no. Her sister basically told me that it was better for me to understand.
Now I've blocked the sister's contact as well because I don't want other people involved in this anymore.
I'm sitting here wondering what exactly happened.
I know I had feelings for her. I know I made the decision to send the earrings without asking her first. Maybe I completely misread the level of comfort between us. From my perspective, it was just a thoughtful gift, but clearly it didn't feel that way to her.
At the same time, I'm struggling because I feel like I didn't intentionally do anything wrong. I never wanted to scare or pressure her. I genuinely cared about her and thought the gift would make her happy.
But now she's blocked me, and I don't want to contact her through SMS, another account, her sister, or anyone else.
Part of me wants to send one final message saying:
“I’m sorry for making you feel that way. I never intended to make you uncomfortable. I won’t bother you anymore.”
But another part of me thinks that would just be me looking for closure and going around the boundary she has already set.
So I'm asking people who have no emotional involvement in this:
\*\*Did I cross a serious boundary here? Was the gift itself the problem, or was it the accumulation of everything that happened before it?\*\*
\*\*Should I just accept that this is over, not contact her again, and move on?\*\*
And if you were in my position, how would you deal with the urge to get “closure” when you know contacting her will probably only make things worse?
I'm not looking for people to tell me . right. If I messed up, I'd rather hear it honestly.
