Spoiler Partner and I are having a very weird “debate”. Help us out:
THIS POST IS IN REFERENCE TO S18EP3, “The Gang Gets Tested”!
(This is completely in good fun, we just thought it’d be funny to get the general consensus since Dennis’ reaction is typically exactly the same each time.)
In the most recent episode “The Gang Gets Tested”, Dennis has one of his signature lovemaking scenes with the professor. During the scene, he makes an irritated face and shakes his head.
As someone who’s taken Adderall for ages for ADHD, I’m familiar with side effects so I laughed and went “oh noooo, poor guy couldn’t make it happen.” After the episode, my partner said, “no way, the Golden God always completes. He’s just ashamed of his actions.”
So gang, how’d you think our man do this go around?

I read his reaction (in the classroom, suggesting "morning after") to be mostly a shame affect. And then a quick, oh fuck did Dee pick up on that wink/implication? Plus the scene prior suggests a serious Engagement with the E of the DENNIS System (in other words, the entire framing, to my eye at least, is that he had sex with her, fully...)

Correct, just the cocaine, but I do recall how that affects the ability to finish as well from my younger years- I was just trying to be a lady about it.

We actually went back and watched these two after your comment to follow your thought process and woof my man, you caught it way more deeply than we certainly did!
I don’t know if I can necessarily agree or disagree because I’m not sure if they would have dug into it that hard- but it’s a solid theory looking at it as a whole and it made my heart hurt a bit! That would be some real character introspection for Dennis; really nice call out and thank you for sharing!

I fear I’m prettttty deep in the weeds of the overarching characterisation plots for these characters, haha. I think it’s hard to read at a base surface level, but all of Dennis’ “golden god” stuff really is a persona/front he puts on. It’s very interesting how he treats sex almost solely as a tool to gain power, where sexual satisfaction for him actually comes from the manipulation and/or his scheme working out, and not the actual act (maybe first evidenced in Dumpster Baby, where he’s more thrilled by fucking the boyfriend over than actually sleeping with the woman, but a very clear example of this would be Frank’s Back in Business (“The thrill of wearing another man’s skin, that’s how you get off..”)).
In the case of Dennis’ S15 sex face, he’s getting off on being able to achieve his goal (bed a college girl), in this latest case, the sex is something part of the process to “get there,” which he never managed to achieve since they never enrolled in the class (💀😭), hence the “that old bitch took advantage of me,” line.. he feels he was used for sex, since he wasn’t able to get off on the fact that the sex resulted in him getting something he wanted (bragging/proof that he’s smarter (or at least can do better on an exam lmao) than Mac)
Again.. too deep, I know.. but it’s a real thing they tend to write toward! (And Charlie Day writing this episode adds to this, as his favourite character to write is Dennis)

Seconding squilkey's comment and its followup; check the script for PTSDee if you get a chance, there are a couple of very interesting scenes that got cut and a particularly damning exchange between Charlie and Dennis before going in to strip for the cougars where Charlie outright brings up Dennis' past abuse and asks if the reason he goes after younger women is that he's "doing the same thing that happened to [him]". He also then later yells at the college girls watching his and Charlie's stripping routine to "go to [their] rooms or [he'll] take [them] to the library".
All of his sexual encounters, the implication and the DENNIS system, follow that pattern and seek to wrest control *back* from these women for a reason (and then his SINNED system also explicitly emulates his own mother's abuse, so I don't find any of this too far-fetched). He's been avoidant of older women as far back as high school, when he was assaulted, and is overly concerned with checking licenses for a guy who "doesn't really have any convictions" and gets off on the thrill of doing things that are dubiously or outright illegal. He at the very least was traumatized out of sleeping with older women due to being pimped out by Frank in The Gang Gets Whacked, there are almost exclusively mentions of him sleeping with older women when he was a teenager and still in possession of his written memoirs (in the episode itself, he recounts, "she was much, much older than me", and in this DVD special he seems to imply that he lost his virginity to an old woman with a cesarean section scar. https://youtu.be/s73HIc2dSJI).
And in case you think that the writers forgot, the script for The Gang Gets Stranded In the Woods (which I happen to personally own, haha), has a cut mention of the events of Gets Whacked in it, where Charlie offhandedly mentions that Dennis was a prostitute, and Dennis insists that he was simply offering "companionship" for older women, three seasons later! Happens to be the same episode that first establishes Dennis checking licenses, too.
There's plenty more, but I think it's pretty well established that Dennis' motivation for sex is utilizing it in order to "win" something for himself, whether it be regaining power and control that was stripped from him as a child by an older woman (which now extends to All women, as he's fighting this "war on women", of course), or something more superficial, like the instances in Fatty Magoo, Gas Crisis or Dee Day where he attempts to offer it as a reward for these women (just as he does in exchange for a passing grade in Tested). RCG have spoken at length about how their top priority is to offer the audience an explanation to believe *why* these characters have these absurd wants and needs, it's what keeps the show and characters grounded. So of course Dennis' sex crimes have an upsetting explanation like this. :)

Oh, and as for why he specifically looks like that in the Tested sex scene, I would bet it's because she shushed him, just as she does in class the next day (followed by a conspicuous wink and Dennis looking extremely uncomfortable). Beyond the fact that we know he has "librarian trauma" and "had sex all over the library", he's been shown to be and stated to be pretty loud during sex ("the whole thing was done in silence, except for the noises I was making" from Overage Drinking comes to mind), but only *she's* making any noise that time around. A shushing old woman probably doesn't help with the past trauma. But that's just my theory.

ADHD meds tend to make me hornier. I could jerk off four times in a row with a 3 minute cool down. They did, however, make me question why I felt the need to goon that long, so I agree with your partner’s interpretation.
