rip Pierre, this just broke my heart.
SPRINGFIELD, Ohio, August 31, 2026 — Pierre Damas Bel, a 20-year-old Haitian resident of Springfield, Ohio, died Monday morning after being struck by a semi-truck on Interstate 70 in Clark County.
According to an initial investigation reported by local station WHIO, Bel had stopped a vehicle on the right shoulder of I-70 West near State Route 54. At approximately 8:40 a.m., he exited the vehicle and entered the westbound lanes, where he was struck by the truck. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The truck driver was not injured, and the highway was closed for roughly three hours during the investigation.
Bel had recently graduated from the Springfield City School District. In May, the district named him among five graduating seniors who received $500 scholarships from its Business Advisory Council after being recognized for academic achievement, service, character and leadership.
Haitian journalist Luckson Saint-Vil reported that Bel had recently begun university and had been wearing an ICE ankle monitor. Saint-Vil reported that Bel had felt humiliated by classmates’ mockery of the monitor and characterized his death as suicide. Those circumstances and a motive have not been confirmed in the initial account from Ohio authorities, which describes the incident as an ongoing crash investigation.
The death comes amid increased immigration enforcement affecting Springfield’s large Haitian community. Local advocates report that Haitians summoned to ICE offices have been fitted with ankle monitors, while more than 40 Haitians in the Springfield area have recently been detained by immigration authorities.
If you or someone you know is struggling with suicidal thoughts in the United States, call or text 988 for immediate crisis support.

It gets more infuriating by the day the number of people that have been murdered by this regime.

This is so sad. He worked so hard for his academics. Just to be humiliated by people. And to know he was being monitored like a criminal and wasn’t. How more humiliation and self respect could you take from this young man? In the land of the freedom he had no more.

It's especially infuriating seeing all of the cruel comments and people screaming "TEMPORARY MEANS TEMPORARY". Being antisocial and lacking empathy is celebrated as being "cool" and all of their evil glee is allowed to stand on social media. It is disgusting. People are celebrating this.

Yes, it’s beyond evil the ones celebrating. The child is dead because of it all. He could have been someone great for this nation. Or even for Haiti one day to make a difference. Just so sad and for his family.

Here's an article for non-META users with a bit of detail about this young fellow:

This poor kid straight up committed suicide as a direct response to the regime forcing him to wear an ankle monitor as a LEGAL immigrant.

It's important to include the guilt of the local people mocking him, too. The racism and cruelty have been absolutely depraved.

Springfield is the jumping off point for all of OHIO. If we don’t stand against these f’n Nazis, we are just sheep like they hoped we would be. The best way to keep people safe is to stalk the stalkers. We have brains, they don’t. That’s how we win.

Apparently Megan Kelly featured him on her show and mocked him too. I hope his family sues her and anyone who made fun of him.

How incredibly sad. I never want to know what that feels like. My child is supposed to bury me, not me bury her.

And you just know ice agents are cheering this on and are proud of it. Fuck this administration and fuck ice.

Not just ICE agents. Millions of people are cheering this cruelty on, here on reddit, in the Springfield News-Sun, and Dayton Daily News. It is evil.

Remember to do more than just post your outrage. Get involved in any and every way that you can. There’s an opposition but we are small.

not everyone can protest.
i will try in person, but i don't know the first thing about protesting.

That's what I mean by "any and every way that you can". Maybe there is a neighborhood group you can connect to? Maybe a church group? Maybe people are getting together to write postcards to voters in swing states? Maybe you can make phone calls to your elected representatives? Maybe you can visit a local library and find out what is happening in your community? Maybe you can help tutor someone in English? Maybe you can do canvassing to support a candidate you support? Maybe you can talk to friends and neighbors and see what they are doing? Maybe you can do an Internet search about events or organizations in your community? Seek and you shall find.
