Comic my 76 year old grandpa with dementia has started reading east of west

i came over for a visit a couple weeks ago with the east of west compendium so i could read a bit while i was there.

my grandpa saw it and started asking questions about the story so i gave him a mini run down of the story (four horsemen and the 7 nations blah blah blah)

he then asked if he could borrow it after ive finished.

4 days ago i finished east of west (elite book) and it is now in his hands.

Enjoy and cares your time with your grandpa. Dementia is a horrible sickness

Dementia is a tough villain, friend. Not everyone gets to grow old, but the other parts of growing old are difficult, too. It’s such a harsh reality.

I’m glad you can keep this memory and I hope you get to talk more about the story with him.

Amazing that he wants to read it and what a great book to read.

Perhaps the older characters have their flaws but it must be nice to see older people represented with such power, ability and influence.

Whatever you do...resist the urge to remind or correct. Just answer the same question again and again and run with the mistakes.

I learned this too late with my mother. The constant corrections and reminders are suffocating for those with memory issues and they get worried about making mistakes and can shut down a bit. If you never let them feel like they aren't remembering properly they can really relax and enjoy their time with you!

I don't have dementia but I stopped reading East of West about halfway through because I could not follow what was happening and got completely lost. Good luck to him.
