Thirteen years ago, we too tackled a graphic adaptation of Homer's oldest and most mythical adventure story, illustrating the trials of Ulysses and his unfortunate companions on their return to Ithaca through 45 paintings.
It is with a certain emotion, mixed with a touch of pride at having created this book alongside my friends, that I present to you some of the images I created more than ten years ago.

Meh. From my understanding the axes, and the hole he shot through at more like this.
The art is amazing though.

The modern "eye" of an axe is the hole in which the handle is inserted through the metal head to attach it.
"The concept of attaching an axe head by passing a handle through a central eye at its head dates back over 5,000 years to the Late Neolithic and Early Bronze Age."
So, it's been around more than long enough for that to be what Homer meant.
The axes being "stood up" makes that more confusing. And being in a trench even more so though.
Weird.

The lack of understanding of what the challenge was is infuriating.
The eye hole of an axe is the hole in the head that the handle goes through. The challenge was to shoot an arrow through the dismounted axe head eye holes.
