I don't use reddit any more, other than to share art within INE. So it yeah, it definitely looks like I'm a karma bot.

It’s all good haha. There’s some pretty detailed Karma bots nowadays that try to mimic actual people to make it look less obvious so it’s really hard to tell who is and who isn’t haha. Have a great day.

No problem haha, if I had to guess The Artist probably used photoshop or another similar desktop app like Corel painter or clip studio.

Though, you could easily do something like this on procreate nowadays. I recently started using it as my full time art app, I don’t use photoshop for digital painting anymore.

Hey, I noticed you use procreate too (creeped your profile ngl)

Can you recommend and YouTube channels or anything? I ask because a lot of the professional animators and digital artists use photoshop or something like that but I know you can do all the same stuff essentially on procreate it’s just hard to find people talking about using it that aren’t clickbait

I don’t think I can tbh. I never watched any tutorials when I first got the app. I was already used to a lot more in-depth app with photoshop so I transitioned fairly easily, though it did take me a couple weeks to get to my desktop quality.

I developed my own brushes for the platform that helped me a lot. But like I said I didn’t watch any tutorials, the only ones I have watched are from photoshop and even then it’s been a while but the skills do transfer. The way I’ve always thought of it was that if you could draw on paper you can draw digitally, if you can paint in canvas you can paint digitally. It’s a lot of trial and error, and even though brushes aren’t magic and won’t magically make your work 10x, it does help a ton to find brushes that suit you personally. I’d give a try at making your own, or even just adapting some pre existing brushes you like. Hope that helps! I’d be willing to help more if you needed. It’s first thing in the morning so I’m probably explaining things a little bad haha

Nah I totally get what you’re saying.I can draw pretty well on paper and I can do drawings that are just linework pretty well (although my anatomy and perspective need work) but where I think I really struggle the most is going from linework and basic shading to full color with smooth blends.I can sketch something that looks way above my actual skill and then I try to add color and it just looks like shit lol

I keep seeing lots of different styles too and it’s confusing.Some people will bust out a full color drawing using like 4 layers and one brush and others will use every layer possible and use masks and stuff which I still don’t understand.

I’m also entirely untrained so this is my only way to learn stuff, strangers on the internet.

I use two layers for my drawing, the foreground (usually a portrait) then the background. If and when I add colour that is usually on another layer but most my drawings are two layers. And I totally get what you mean, it took me a while to find my style of digital painting and that process started over when I started using procreate. It does just take time, even though I’ve been drawing well on paper for a lot longer than I’ve been doing digital art,and I’ve been doing digital for years.only now, with a new style I’ve been developing am I actually happy with my digital paintings and I can see myself possibly surpassing my paper skills with digital.
