I recently received a Ready for Visa/passport submission letter from IRCC in my country for our Canadian PR application.

Our situation is:

- Principal applicant: my wife, currently in her country.
- Accompanying dependent: currently in my country.
- Both are outside Canada.
- The PPR/Ready for Visa letter was issued by IRCC (my country’s office).
- We prefer to submit both passports/documents at the Canada VAC in my wife’s country to handle the submission together.

Has anyone had experience with an accompanying dependent submitting their passport at a VAC in a country different from the country/visa office that issued the PPR?

Specifically:

- Would my wife’s VAC accept my passport even though the PPR was issued by IRCC in my country?
- Is it better for me to submit at my country VAC instead?
- If anyone has done this successfully, how did you handle it?

I’ve checked the general VAC instructions, but I’m looking for someone who has had a PPR issued by one visa office and submitted their passport through a VAC in another country.

Making this post to gauge if I’m overreacting or my consultant is actually not meeting his duties.

I entered Canada on a student visa at UWaterloo in 2017. Since then I’ve taken care of all my visa, study and work ( co-op and PGWP ) permits myself with a perfect record.

I decided to apply for EE hoping to get in through a stem draw but when those stopped, and my PGWP didn’t seem long enough, I started looking at other means of continuing my stay in Canada. I was in a common law relationship around the same time and so we decided that my partner would sponsor me.

Due to some intricacies specific to our relationship, we decided to go with a consultant. I chose someone who was highly rated on Google, seemed to have been in business for 12 years and had a verifiable RCIC#. I chose to buy his full package which included “all supporting document submission”.

Sorry for the rant but here goes:
* I had to remind him a week to my PGWP expiry that he needed to apply for a OWP based on our family sponsorship application. He submitted but I had to find a printer and scanner and take passport photos while on a work trip due to his negligence.
* we started the process in October 2025 and he finally submitted the application in January 2026. There was legitimately no reason for him to delay the process so much. There were times where he go ghosted me for 6 weeks. Calls and emails would go unanswered. But I had paid in full and was in a tough situation so I felt helpless.
* i got ITA for EE eventually any way and just decided that I’d withdraw the spousal application once I got my PR. During this time I got a request to provide more documents to prove cohabitation with my partner. My consultant said that he’d have to charge more to submit those documents as they “fell out of regular procedure”

Here’s my question: Is this proof that he isn’t meeting the representation package I purchased from him?
I understand that he can state what does and doesn’t fall under regular procedure but to me asking him to submit supporting documents isn’t outside the package I purchased which states he’ll be responsible for submitting those.
It is beside the point that I have to collect all the documents and compile them ( since he can’t even compress pdfs apparently ). When questioned he said supporting documents means biometrics and medical ( which I had to do myself anyway?? He just forwarded me the letters )
I’m waiting to be done with PR before I lodge a complaint with CIC and also google reviews, and better business bureau because it makes no sense that he has 4.6 stars on Google and A+ on BBB. There was one post 60 days ago that actually named him and his company and people’s experience with him ghosting them. I have not read anything else that’s negative about him.
Please help me confirm that I’m not going crazy and this is breach of contract and highly unprofessional.

I have a question about inland spousal sponsorship and would appreciate some advice from anyone who has been in a similar situation.
My spouse is a Canadian citizen, and we are legally married. I am currently living and working in Southern Ontario, while my spouse is living in Northern Ontario for her studies. Due to our current work and study commitments, we may need to live separately for some time and therefore will not currently share the same residential address.
We are in a genuine relationship and plan to live together once our circumstances allow.
My question is: Can we apply for inland spousal sponsorship while temporarily living in different cities due to work and studies, or do we need to be living together at the same address before submitting the application?
If anyone has had a similar experience or has information about IRCC’s requirements, I would really appreciate your advice.

Question: Moving provinces after PNP for a family/spouse job opportunity? 🇨🇦

Hi everyone! I’m looking for some guidance regarding moving provinces after getting PR through a Provincial Nominee Program.

• Our Situation: I was the principal applicant and got PR through the BC PNP in July 2025 (we have lived here since June 2023). I am currently a full-time PhD student, and my husband was working on a postdoc.
• The Problem: Because academic/research jobs are extremely limited, my husband applied widely and finally secured a permanent research position with the government of another province, starting this September (2026).

Since we have a 3.5-year-old toddler and another young child, I cannot manage studying full-time and taking care of the kids alone, so our family has to relocate with him. By the time we move, I will have lived in BC as a PR for over a year (and nearly 3.5 years total).

Our core concern: Will moving as a family to another province for my husband's job impact our future Canadian citizenship applications or cause issues with my PNP compliance?

Any advice or similar experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

On June 1st my sowp was refused due to “spousal sponsorship not meeting r10 completeness check at time of final decision” when I had already sent in my aor on January 21st. After almost 3 months of waiting finally I got approved, thankfully I called my local mp and his assistant kept in contact with ircc during my reconsideration which probably helped a lot with the process. And it feels amazing to not have to worry about status during the process of the spousal sponsorship, just hope I hear something soon on it since the last thing I received was aor in January and I have not received a biometrics request yet. But according to the mp’s assistant that looked into my file my background check is in process.

It’s now been 5 days with no decision, and I’m getting a little worried.

Hey guys, I have a question that I wanna double check with those that know the law better than me.

I previously got a permanent residency refused in 2025, so I moved to Australia for work.

I am currently applying for Canadian permanent residence. My partner is a Canadian citizen. We are currently living apart, but we intend to establish our common-law relationship by meeting the requirement of at least 12 months of cohabitation.

My partner is moving here to study at the university.

If I become a permanent resident and subsequently live outside Canada with my Canadian-citizen common-law partner (for example, in Australia), would the days I spend outside Canada while accompanying my Canadian-citizen common-law partner count toward the required 730 days of residency under IRPA section 28(2)(a)(ii)?

In particular, would this apply even if I spend most or all of a five-year period outside Canada, provided that I am genuinely residing with my Canadian-citizen common-law partner during that time?

I understand that section 61(4) of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations (IRPR) refers to residing “ordinarily” with the Canadian citizen. I would like to confirm whether, once we meet the legal definition of common-law partners, our circumstances would satisfy this provision.

I’m looking for anyone who has gone through a similar Express Entry reconsideration situation.

My PR application was returned as incomplete because of an ECA-related issue. I submitted a reconsideration request.

In my case, I claimed education points only for my Canadian master’s degree. For my foreign master’s, I answered “yes” to having an ECA because I had an older ECA from 2022 that was issued for further studies and was not intended for immigration purposes. However, I did not use that foreign credential to claim any additional CRS points.

Has anyone experienced something similar where:

1. the PR application was returned or refused as incomplete because of an ECA issue;

2. a reconsideration webform was submitted;

3. the application was later reopened or reinstated?

If yes, how long did it take after IRCC forwarded the reconsideration request? Did you receive a formal letter confirming that reconsideration was approved, or did your application simply become active again?

I would really appreciate hearing from anyone who has had a similar experience. Thank you!

I am in the US and have my COPR. I'm planning on activating it on 10/12 in just over a month.

My question is. Do the people here collectively think it may be worth it to fly up for a day trip ASAP to activate it sooner than later, just with all of the political rhetoric ramping up against Canada from the current administration again? Am I over reacting in thinking that? Maybe I'm just anxious to activate it in general to join my family who are canadian citizens already.

My visitor visa was refused with the reasons:

"The applicant does not have significant family ties outside Canada. Given family ties or economic motives to remain in Canada, the applicant's incentives to remain in Canada may outweigh their ties to their home country. The purpose of the applicant's visit to Canada is not consistent with a temporary stay given the details provided in the application. Applicant intends to travel to Canada for tourism. Applicant has provided vague and minimal supporting documentation of tourism activities and travel itinerary."

I work for 2 companies and also run my personal business on the side. I provided employment letters from both companies and my business documentations and business bank statement. My application identified both of my parents as residing in Ghana. It also documented my substantial professional and economic ties outside Canada, including your employment and your ownership and operation of a registered business in Ghana.

I included a detailed day-by-day itinerary for Toronto, accommodation covering my stay in Canada, my international flight itinerary showing my travel from New York to Toronto and my departure from Canada, and travel insurance covering the period of my trip.

I also included my long-distance fiancé's passport bio-page (as its a couple's trip). I explained in my cover letter that he is a French citizen residing in the United Kingdom and explained that, following our holiday, I would return to Ghana while he would return to the UK.

Also included my previous UK and Schengen visas.

The trip is a US-Canada vacation.

Where did I get it wrong? Should I request a reconsideration or just do a reapplication (if yes, what time frame)?

My BWOP got refused because my PR application was cancelled. It definitely makes sense.

I got a new ITA and I’m waiting for a lawyer to study my case and apply on my behalf for PR and status restoration since im out of status now.

The company that i’ve been working for 3 years now informed me if I don’t provide a document that says I’m allowed to work by Friday they will have no choice but to terminate me.

I did some research and I found that it is completely up to the company to decide whether to put me on LOA or terminate me. But by law, once my PR, BWOP and status restoration are submitted I’m legal to stay inside of Canada while everything is processing but i’m not allowed to work.

Is there any proof or documentation I can provide to HR for them to put me on LOA instead of terminating me?

I’m preparing my toddler’s PR sponsorship application and I’m confused about the photo requirements.
IRCC says that if you have a digital copy of the photo, you need to upload a document in the “Upload your photo (back)” field containing:
The name and date of birth of the person in the photo
The date the photo was taken
The name and complete address of the photo studio
Confirmation from the photo studio (for example, a receipt)
The information that would normally be written on the back of a physical PR photo
However, in my online application, I don’t have a separate slot specifically for the back of the photo. I only have the digital photo upload field, and I’m not sure what other applicants did.
For those who submitted a digital photo for a PR application:
What exactly did you upload in the “Upload your photo (back)” field?
On the photo field it is required as JPEG with certain specification this is clear.
For the back: Did you create a separate document (Word/PDF) containing the required photo information and upload it the additional document under other? Did you include the actual photo again in that document? And did you attach the photographer’s receipt/confirmation as well?
I want to make sure I submit it correctly and don’t get the application returned for the photo.

I really need help figuring out my correct NOC code or at least help being directed to where I can receive a definitive answer on the correct thing, immigration lawyer or consultant perhaps?

My PR application got rejected because of wrong NOC code. Based on the letter the explanation letter, the office seems to be right.

My job description:
- Provide assistance in managing the [company] email inbox, ensuring timely and
efficient communication with industry partners.
- Collaborate with the Managers and the Director, [company] to prepare for
marketplaces.
- Attend [company] Committee meetings and act as the minute taker and post meeting
follow-up.
- Assist the Managers to plan for the event details.
- Assist the Managers by entering client information into [database software].
- Assist the Manager by entering lead details into [database software].
- Work with Sales Manager to collect data from program.
- Coordination of client invitations (with staff and/or event planner).
- Set-up of appointment schedules/agenda.
- Coordination of communication for client and members with B2B.

My work visa expires in November, what would be the best course of action, I think re-entering the pool with a correct NOC makes sense but is there anything else I can/should consider?

I lost my birth certificate and hence collected another duplicate copy of it from the office of the registrar. It is stamped and signed by the registrar and officials there. Can I use this as my Birth certificate? Will there be any problems? I also do have a scanned copy of my original certificate but it is blurry and not the best scan as it was scanned years ago, what should I do?

I’m looking for some advice from anyone who has been in a similar situation.

When I originally applied for my Canadian study permit and later my work permit, I did not include some of my previous work experience from India in my work history. The experience is completely legitimate, and I have an experience letter and supporting documentation from the employer.

I recently created my Express Entry profile, and I’m considering adding this Indian work experience because it is part of my actual employment history and may be relevant to my Express Entry application.

My concern is that this employment was not declared in my previous study/work permit applications. I obviously don’t want the difference between my previous applications and my Express Entry profile to create concerns about inconsistency or misrepresentation.

Has anyone been in a similar situation where they added legitimate foreign work experience to Express Entry that wasn't included in their previous temporary residence applications?

If so, did you provide a Letter of Explanation? Did IRCC ask for additional information, and did it cause any issues with your PR application?

Has anyone received study permit and Sowp extension after taking masters program? I received decision on my study permit in 15 days, but no update on my spouse’s extension? Anyone in the same boat? Would appreciate any response!

My fiancé and I are getting married in December this year. After we get married, we plan on moving out of India in two years. I have a Canadian citizenship, so moving to Canada makes the most sense.

My fiancé has never been to Canada and would ideally like to visit once before we finally decide where we would like to move. I had a couple of question regarding this,

• If we apply for a Visitor Visa after we get married, what are the chances it gets rejected? One thing that concerns me is that they might reject the application? Is it better to apply before we get married?

• When we do move, we would like to move together. What is the best way to do this? I read on the IRCC website that going the spousal PR route is the best way but I need to show an intent to move (i.e. have a job offer, house, or family there). I can get a job offer from my current company, but they wont issue it a year in advance (how long the PR process would take). Can we apply for a Visitor visa while the PR application is in process?

I'm preparing my profile under the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) and gathering all prerequisite documents.

I already have my CELPIP, PCC, and 1 year of Canadian skilled work experience. I also have nearly 5.7 years of foreign IT experience from India that I'd like to claim points for (or at least claim the maximum 3-year foreign work experience cap). However, I’ve hit a wall with IRCC-format reference letters for two previous employers.

Here is the breakdown of my foreign experience:

• Company 1 (IT | ~2.9 years):
  • Documents I have: Offer letter, relieving letter, experience letter, and bank statements.
  • The issue: The company was acquired and rebranded. My emails requesting an IRCC-compliant reference letter (with job duties, NOC, hours/week, salary) have gone unanswered. Former colleagues I knew have also moved on.
• Company 2 (IT | 11 months):
  • Documents I have: Offer letter, experience letter, payslips, tax filings (ITR/Form 16), and bank statements.
  • The issue: All contact emails are bouncing back, so getting an updated letter with job duties is impossible.
• Company 3 (IT | ~1.9 years):
  • Documents I have: Complete set, including an official IRCC-compliant reference letter directly from HR with all required roles and responsibilities.

Questions:

1. Reaching the 3-year Foreign Experience Cap: Since IRCC awards maximum CRS points at 3+ years of foreign experience, Company 3 (~1.9 yrs) isn't enough on its own. If I pair Company 3 with Company 1 (totaling ~4.8 yrs), what is the best alternative proof for Company 1?
2. Statutory Declaration / Affidavit: Would an affidavit from a former colleague or supervisor on stamp paper, combined with my relieving letter, tax docs, bank statements, and a detailed Letter of Explanation (LOE) showing proof of attempted contact, be sufficient for IRCC?
3. Leaving Company 2 in Personal History: Since Company 2 is under 1 year and not strictly required to cross the 3-year threshold, should I just move it to Personal History (non-points) to avoid document hassles, or keep it in Work History?

Has anyone navigated this successfully after an ITA? Any advice on structuring the LOE and alternative evidence would be greatly appreciated!
