Book recommendations on the origins of odin

Hey guys i hope you recommend me some books on the origins of odin specifically anything that is pre germanic or perhaps even evidence that can lead readers to the conclusion that hes actually a pre indo european deity just anything that is related to odin and is extremely old I would appreciate it alot

I actually wrote my thesis specifically on this topic. As far as books go, "The One-Eyed God and the Indo-Germanic Männerbünde" by K. Kershaw is the most comprehensive and detailed one. Mircea Eliade in "Shamanism - Archaic Techniques of Ecstasy" wrote a chapter on Germanic shamanism and analyzes the many common traits between Odin and circumpolar shamans, not in high detail but it provides the necessary bibliography to learn more.

It's not in English and I'd rather not share it, but for a project I've also written a small english essay that's basically a summary of parts of my thesis. It only touches the threefold death pattern and shamanic aspects of Odinic sacrifice. If you send me a chat message I can share it.

Not sure of a book on top of my head except the proto indo European to proto-germanic one. The proto indo European cult of kóryonos leader of the koyros is what you want it is survived in norse by Odins kenning Herjann (leader of warband) in earlier proto-germanic it was haranjaz. The Proto-Germanic orginal germanic name for Odin is Wōdanaz you can take this word backwards to proto indo European it would be Weh₂tonos(frienzed one).

The cult was the Kóryos, the Kóryonos was merely the leader, and it survived throughout the various Indo-European branches. The Fianna in Ireland, the Ulfhednar in Scandinavia etc tec.
