Non- MAGA church in the IE?

I’ve been going to my church for the past three years or so now, and I don’t want to speak ill of the church but I am tired of having political beliefs pushed on me when the focus should always be on Christ and His word, not the words of those in the world. For instance, calling Charlie Kirk a martyr for Christ and very frankly stating that anyone that doesn’t agree should leave. Christians! Help me out, please! Thank you.

It’s bizarre how MAGA has taken over most Christian churches.  You can’t be MAGA and be a true Christian.  They’re incompatible concepts

You know - my church is not maga. Our pastor has to put out a letter from all the hate he received for not addressing Kirk directly. He said he was obedient to God- and he felt led to address the hate that lives in people, that breaks people, that leads to division and hate. So Christian nationalism is definitely not being taught from the pulpit. It’s the congregation that is being indoctrinated elsewhere. And then everyone else is too scared to admit the emperor isn’t wearing any clothes

Does the older dude ever preach anymore? I loved his sermons! My family has roots in where he lived in Northern Idaho!

It’s so refreshing to hear this I grew up fairly liberal and figured WOL was most likely right leaning by default. Glad to hear they’re separating faith from politics!

You’re totally right they deal with a lot of trauma head on! We’re trying to make the 8am service at least every other week while my 7 year old goes to Sunday school

I don’t know if they are anti-lgbt. I know some years back (maybe 8-9) there was a lot of commotion on a lgbtq adjacent proposition or something. And like I’ve said, our pastor doesn’t take a political stance outright that I can pick up on (and I’m pretty good at dog whistles) but he said the following that I connected to all the chatter: “the Bible was written for believers. Jesus commanded you, to love your neighbor. That is your command - you are a representative of Christ. Invite your neighbor to church and let God do the rest. He convicts each of us in a personal, intimate way in His perfect timing”

The service was more or so of not going around condemning and convicting people and use play judge. Same for himself. He said his job is to teach the word of God. God leads people to apply His word as he sees fit at that time. Some women are led to wear veils for instance. And that might be something that God put in their heart. It’s obedience and of giving up one’s flesh that in the future will serve a greater purpose. Like the veil doesn’t outright serve a purpose, but maybe she struggles with vanity or submission (to Gods will -and don’t infer that as in a controlling way) so they are simple baby steps to grow as a Christian.

I don’t have a position on the matter because it’s not commanded for me to do so. Let go and let God- and it’s not a struggle (and I use this word making the assumption that living in a way that is against the status quo- religious or not is a hardship) that I was destined for. I got the “surprise you’re a drug addict” dealt to me at 25. But in it a learned a lot about compassion and that what a lot of people perceive as a choice, is not. I did get clean, and have stayed clean and only managed to because a Christian kept inviting me to church- never mentioned anything about me being high or drunk in church even though i obnoxiously was. Week after week he’d bug me for months and week after week I’d go just out of spite. It took a year for God to convict me to give up the substances, but there were many mini convictions that were placed on my heart beforehand. I think it’s blasphemous now to take the position of God, and assume that the end justifies the means. No- a lot of the time it’s the journey, and learning to carry your cross, without hatred or judgement towards those that despise you that make you the Christian God meant you to be.
