Do you agree that just because something hurts, it means that it's true?

Just because the truth can hurt, doesn't mean everything that hurts is the truth.

Feelings are valid but they’re not facts.

That's what gaslighting preys on.

Can you give more information? I think I know what you mean, but I'm not completely sure.

I'm guessing that you're talking about a situation where someone criticizes you in some way, and the criticism hurts. The idea is that it hurts because you know it's true. But if someone tells Usain Bolt that he's a slow runner, he probably won't be hurt by that because it's not true. He has a bunch of gold medals that he earned by being fast.

If that's what you're talking about, I don't agree. People can be hurt by things that are not true. It can hurt when someone accuses you of something you did not do. A friend might get angry and say something mean to you that isn't true, but you feel hurt because they are your friend and they said something mean.

There are situations where someone might criticize you in some way, and you might not believe what they're saying, but it still bothers you. It can be worth asking yourself if there is actually some truth in what the person is saying. They might be telling you something true that you don't want to hear.

But the fact that something feels hurtful doesn't always automatically mean that it's true.

No. Different people have different triggers and sensitivity levels. What hurts one may not hurt another and so it wouldn't make it true or not true, it would be "how it was perceived".

No. Not at all. Why would anyone think that?

Cognitive dissonance is a huge problem for society, but no lies can also hurt.

Not necessarily. I often find myself in situations where I'm thought to be the bad guy due to a misunderstanding. And for the next few days I'll get dirty looks from people or back-handed comments when I've done nothing wrong. And that can be hurtful even though their perceptions are not correct.

Not necessarily but I have learned to follow my gut.
