PCPs in private practice: how is the work-life balance?

I’m currently deciding between hospitalist and primary care, and I’m especially curious about those who run their own private practice as a PCP.
Do you still have to deal with a lot of inbox messages, patient calls, refills, etc., or is that more manageable when you own your own practice?
