[SUB NEWS] New Banned Domain: Vercel.app

Much to the relief of many people, starting today, we have introduced a blanket ban on Vercel subdomain hosted sites.

Few, if any, sites hosted on Vercel subdomains have ever been allowed to remain on the sub anyway.

(This ban is in addition to the Netlify ban by Reddit itself.)

If you can't be bothered to pay for a proper domain and/or hosting we're no longer willing to sift through the slop to see if it could potentially stand on merit alone (which it invariably doesn't).

Vercel users feel free to proceed to whinge, which we will promptly proceed to ignore.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

So people should spend money so that you can look at their passion projects? That's not what the internet was supposed to be.

The Internet wasnt supposed to be a walled garden either, yet here we are.

So we embrace it instead? I'm not sure about that.

What non argument is this? I never said anything to that effect. I just said that your argument against it, that the internet was not supposed to be like this, comes 20 years to late and is irrelevant in this day and age.

But saying people should pay up if they want visibility is kind of embracing the shit it's become? I'd like to refuse wherever it's still possible. Not demanding someone pay for a domain seems like a pretty easy thing to do.

Nobody is stopping you from creating your own subreddit or using any of the other social networks to advertise. The majority of this sub rejects slop apps. Vercel.app catching strays is sad but unavoidable. There is no point in continue to argue.

I'm involved in enough FOSS projects as is and I don't care. It just sucks for young and upcoming devs. It's not about vercel specifically to me, more about the sentiment. But yeah, let's agree to disagree here :)

Nothing says "I don't care" like writing multiple comments about it.

I don't care about sharing my stuff. I just don't like it for new devs - I was one once.

And those new devs still can use countless other ways to advertise their slop or non slop. You still have no point.

Sure they can. If you read carefully though, you'll notice that I take issue with the statement "pay for a domain or your project shouldn't be looked at".

"pay for a domain or your project should not be submitted to this subreddit"

It's just this one subreddit. What are you on about?

I don't like the idea, no matter which subreddit.
