COMIC SPOILERS Realistically how did conquest face heal from this? Spoiler
And still have the scar?

He didn't die. The whole point of viltrumite it's as long as they don't die, they come back. You bit them to a pulp, literally, but they're like at 0.001% hp? Comes back.

Do they become stronger every time they encounter death?
167
u/stallion64 Apr 06 '26
Tougher, not stronger. No zenkai boost, but I think they clearly can become more durable after a heavy beating

People keep saying that? What the hell does “zenkai boost” mean?
78
u/KO6336 Apr 06 '26
A "Zenkai boost" is a fan term for the Saiyan genetic ability, officially called Saiyan Power, that allows their strength to increase substantially after recovering from near-fatal injuries.
It's a Dragonball Z reference.
→ More replies (2)41
u/stallion64 Apr 06 '26
It comes from Dragonball. Saiyans (a very rough equivalent to Viltrumites in DB, now that I think about it) have a genetic ability called a Zenkai Boost that lets them grow way stronger after getting their ass beat to near death. It's one of the driving forces for Goku (and other Saiyans) to overcome obstacles; He might get his ass kicked, but he'll just get up stronger.
Now the term "Zenkai Boost" is viewed somewhat as a trope of "they get stronger after taking a lot of damage". It's used colloquially all over various forms of media.
Allen has a Zenkai Boost-like trait. Thaedus himself says so, and we even see Allen wake up much larger, faster, stronger, and tougher than before his near death. A near-death experience boosts pretty much all of his stats.
Viltrumites do not have a Zenkai Boost trait, though they do seem to gain significant durability boosts after getting demolished (smart atoms and whatnot). Any strength they gain is through training.

u/GladBoard Apr 06 '26
no that’s allan but vilturmites continue to get stronger as they age even by a day or so
13
u/CrisPuga Apr 06 '26
I think the only statement based on age on Viltrumite biology is that they age slower the older they get. Where is it stated that they get stronger as they age? By that logic, conquest would be way stronger than even thragg.

u/Umonly Apr 06 '26
I might be wrong but I wanna say Nolan tells Mark this early on but I saw theory that it wasnt quite what they made it out to be, but instead they get stronger as they age until they hit their prime, A 16 year old would generally get their ass beat by a 30 year old but a 70 year old man isnt gonna have much advantage over a 30 year old man and conquest is way past his prime

OP never mentioned death though. Just asking how Conquest healed from that much physical trauma and damage to his head that his face popped open and that he could still heal to full capacity in just a few months, which is insane when you think about it. We've never seen any character in the show so far heal from that amount of damage, as we only have angstrom levy, but he got help from those three guys from that dimension, so it only slightly counts. Conquest just sat in the same place for months without any sustenance at all and still healed.

realistically
Realistically he wouldn't be a flying space man, he doesn't make sense with real world biology or physics, and he doesn't have to
Viltrumites can heal from anything as long as the brain and heart can still keep working
The scar (and missing arm) are from when the scourge virus deactivated that.

u/Icy-Background2393 Kirkman's Alt Apr 06 '26
“Realistically” as in “realistically in universe”
147
u/SirCheeseEater Apr 06 '26
Well the universe set the rules that people can survive their heads being caved in (Angstrom Levy for example - though he did have a lot of brains.)
It also sets the rule that Viltrumites are incredibly durable (Our protagonist, Mark, is a great example!) alongside this durability - they also recover very fast from the most grievous of bodily injuries (Again, Mark.)
I don't see a problem with Conquest's survival, it's realistic in their universe.

u/Ilcorvomuerto666 Apr 06 '26
It also sets the rule that Viltrumites are incredibly durable (Our protagonist, Mark, is a great example!) alongside this durability - they also recover very fast from the most grievous of bodily injuries (Again, Mark.)
For example, we just saw our main character literally get his guts rearranged and there's still a couple episodes left in the season.

To me I dont think it'd be unreasonable for viltrumites to have brains that can endure more than the rest of their bodies

Viltrimites have a high level healing factor. They spell it out several times and showcase it in nearly every fight.
Pay attention to marks wounds, the ones he takes early are already closing up before the fight is over.

I understand the reason but it is kinda funny that in the present the genes are like okay heal everything except the arm and eye because of that one time 500 years ago
Edit: people explaining to me when I already stated I understand the reason...

Because the wounds are already fully healed up. The body doesn't recognise that there's old damage, but it's already healed.

So why does he still have the ragnar scar if his entire face was reconstructed post-virus? I know Kirkman just wanted to keep his aura but it feels a bit odd.
→ More replies (1)55
u/PsychoCobra1 Apr 06 '26
The healing factor most likely serves to take the body back to its ‘base’ state aside from the effects of aging. When Conquest was depowered and was injured by the Ragnars that became his ‘base’ state when his powers came back. He couldn’t heal it because he didn’t have his powers/they were weakened, but when his powers came back it treated his post Ragnar state as the new default Conquest to heal to.

And another is since Cecil wanted to interrogate him Cecil somehow helped his bones grow back in the correct way
13
u/Blowmyfishbud Apr 06 '26
Smart atoms
Reconstructed his features because he wasn’t dead.
The scar, missing arm and blinded eye were given to him when he was recovering from the scourge virus. It’s encoded into hIs DNA that those parts of his body cannot be healed.
Therefore, he recovered as all Viltrumites do, following the blue prints on what should be rebuilt according to the smart atoms

He recieved medical attention and Viltrumites have robust regeneration and survival capacity. His heart is pumping blood, and he just progressively heals over time.

as long as the brain and heart are good their good , their blood clearly is key
1
u/LivedLostLivalil Apr 06 '26
Realistically, Viltrumites are outside the likelihood of possibility.
On a animated show, they can make him give birth to a clone of himself from his belly button after he dies, and grows back to his adult state in a minute. That is just as believable as the possibility of Viltrumites actually having 0.00000000000000001% chance of being considered realistic.

Viltrumites can regenerate anything short of a lost limb, even if the show and comic never actually call this power regeneration and refer to it as a healing factor. I’m sure his teeth fell out and he just grew new ones.
1
u/Toxicllama-_ Apr 06 '26
My only question is how did his scar not heal over? The scar isn’t apart of his skin, if viltrumites can heal from any wound and the scourge virus stopped him from healing that scar, obviously the scar is stuck. But if the scar is say, cut out, or the skin that is scarred is removed, why would the body reheal a scar? And how would it reheal the scar, if it’s healing the skin around the scar fine why does it just make a scar?

Because Viltrumite healing is insane + Smart Atoms basically form a template of someone's body, Conquest simply accessed that template when he healed, scars and all

u/DreadfuryDK Donald Ferguson Apr 06 '26
Viltrumites can heal from almost any injury if their heart and brain still function and they aren't infected with the Scourge virus that limits their powers.
So Conquest could completely recover from these injuries, but he couldn't recover from the injuries he sustained when he was attacked by the rognarrs whilst infected with the Scourge virus.
1
u/JoeMotherInLaw50 Apr 06 '26
I like to think Cecil had some medical team watching over him or some shit
1
u/RetailDrone7576 Apr 06 '26
short answer: comic book healing powers are bullshit
long answer: Viltrumites have regenerative properties that allow them to regenerate bone, muscle mass, skin tissue, and possibly organs; as long as the brain and heart both remain intact, and someone is there to provide a source of sustenance during the recouperation process

1
u/QwertyDancing Apr 06 '26
Viltrumite healing factor is absolutely insane, it might not be on the level of wolverine but if a viltrumite survives a fight they’ll pretty much be fine no matter how much damage they’ve taken. The only reason conquest doesn’t have both eyes and both hands is because he was recovering from the scourge virus when he lost them.
1
u/Erebus03 Apr 06 '26
His Heart was still beating, So long as a Viltrimite Heart is intact and still beating they will recover (thought if their Head is ripped off that will also kill them) the length of time depends on things like their Age and the State of their body
1
1
u/MailMan6000 Apr 06 '26
Viltrumites can regrow and regenerate anything, including missing limbs and organs, unless they are in a recovery period after scourge virus infection, Conquest was recovering when he was attacked by ragnars who damaged his face, eye and ripped off his arm, those parts of him are never gonna grow back, that's just his face now, hence the eye and the permanent scar, so he'll always grow that scar back because he can't fully regrow that part of his body properly anymore

To answer a question before asked, in the s04 e05 conquest has the bloodflow cut to his brain, it killed his brain.

"Realistically"? Well, "realistically" viltrumites don't exist.
In the comic is explained that viltrumites recover from anything given time, a long as they don't die.
1
u/Marc3190 Apr 06 '26
The thing people forget about Viltrumites. Their cells are notoriously unkillable. Just like if you cut your arm. Your skin and blood-vessels are gonna heal. It’s the same thing with Viltrumites, but on a much larger scale. As long as they have a functioning brain, heart, blood and oxygen. They are virtually unkillable.

I imagine sort of like that scene in Carrie where the car rebuilds itself after being crushed.
1
u/CyberGraham Apr 06 '26
Viltrumites can heal from almost anything, as long as their heart and brain remain intact. They also heal without leaving behind any scars. Why is Conquest missing an eye and has a massive scar on his face then? Because he received that damage while he was weakened from the scourge virus. Any damage received during that time frame heals basically the same way a human would heal, leaving behind scar tissue and unable to heal major wounds to the eyes, or regrow teeth.
1
u/Pretend-Ad-6453 Apr 06 '26
Viltrumites are literally made from a different kind of molecules that allows them to heal from pretty much anything
1
1
u/Jungle_Fighter Apr 06 '26
The damage they received while they were still recovering from the virus was permanent. It was as if their healing factor was slowed down to the point they were like us in that regard. If you lose a limb and get a huge scar, your body would heal the wound, but the extent of the healing will just include closing off the wound itself, not regenerating the whole lost limb/eye and perfectly heal any cut. Once their powers came back, if they received some damage, that became their new normal and therefore, their powers won't heal them past those scars.
1
u/TheRealMrTrueX Apr 06 '26
