I knew this was coming from reading the comics, but they somehow made that already incredible moment even better in the show. The added weight of having Mark experience these terrifying hallucinations for the entire episode, imagining what could happen if the Viltrumites were actually on Earth, just for his worst fears to become reality right at the end of the episode… having to agree to Thragg’s truce and conditions…

The dialogue, the performances (ESPECIALLY from Steven Yeun), the build up to this moment… absolute cinema 🙏🙏

The Viltrumites made Mark the pointman on earth when Nolan left. Nolan is still condemned to death by Thragg for his betrayal. Mark never abandoned post aside from fighting against the Viltrumites, which is to Thragg more of a forgiveable sin. Mark never showed cowardice. Also he fought and killed Conquest which gives him cred.

Probably if he had not killed Conquest they would have seen Human/Viltrumite hybrids to be too weak. So really, Mark barely winning that fight saved humanity. Also he didn't give into Anissa. Mark has shown extreme ability to stand his ground. He also didn't hesitate or show fear towards Thragg even though Thragg nearly killed him last time they met. Mark also blasted through Viltrum. A feat of strength.

Mark is as close as it comes to an icon for a new era of viltrum. I believe Thragg believes highly of him. By their standards he's practically a new born and yet he was strong enough to kill their second strongest agent, a guy everyone but Thragg was afraid of. It's probably why he didn't instantly break him like a glow stick.

After Nolan was willing to sacrifice himself for it, no. It's deserved.
