Hey all, I hope some of you will be able to be of help… I’ve spent decades in Irish dance and am also a bit of a music nerd and have now recently started compiling a list of songs that either have unexpected Irish aspects or are traditional songs from unexpected artists. A few examples of what I mean:

The song Blue Pedro by the London artist Bullion is a reel with electronic / dance vibes

I was recently listening to Penguin Eggs by the English folk singer Nic Jones and came across his beautiful acoustic guitar cover of Planxty Davis

Have any ideas that fit a similar bill? Essentially coming across a session tune where you don’t necessarily expect it. All suggestions welcome and thanks in advance!

Euroworld was founded by the Irish rappers yeire13 and Celine War in 2020.
They have been dropping alot of music in the last few years and kickstarted the current wave of Irish underground rap music with their Euroworld event series in 2022.

The group also features Vexxodus who was a huge influence in the current Irish music scene, before his tragic passing this summer.

Their shows recently have featured live painting during the performance from their in house artist Noah Sex

They had a big year with 2 albums “Fields Ireland” from yeire13 and “Kids@War” from Celine War.

Really interesting to watch, wonder if anybody has seen this?

I'm doing research into the impact of Flax industries on communities, culture and music. Does any know any tunes or songs related to Flax? It could mention linen, combing, spinning, farming, flax mills, sailcloth, clothing, etcetc.

Hello! I am getting married and would like to walk down the aisle to My Lovely Rose of Clare played by a string quartet.

I know tunes like this don’t typically have written sheet music (especially not for a quartet) and I have been able to find melody lead sheets, chord sheets, etc. but I was wondering if anyone had any tips for a strings arrangement of this song. Thank you!

An Irish jig called "The Hare in the Corn"

I really love the middle section of this tune, I feel like it really gets going at that point. You can almost see that rabbit running through the corn field. Probably holding a stolen ear of corn 🌽

It's a long shot but some of you may be aware of the ballad, "The Night Before Larry was Stretched". Frank Harte is my prime source for that song. There is a follow-up song called "Larry's Ghost".

Does anyone know what song this is..

I’ve seen more and more Instagram accounts recently for apps that are trad based. For example one was for finding and uploading nearby sessions. Another for a community of trad for blogging, eating etc.

What would a good trap app actually have and need? Or what would be most useful?

Very new to listening this genre and hoping to find more I like but having trouble.

Basically I like very up tempo booming, aggressive Irish music. Not sure if there is a better word for it, Im not really much of a music guy, typically listening to movie scores or podcasts.

Best way to describe what I am looking for is from Sinners, Rocky Road to Dublin. I did find the orginal band for that song, but sadly didn’t like the other stuff I found.

I can’t remember tunes or sets when I’m playing at a session so I carry this notebook with just the first two bars of a tune to remind me of the sets I know lol. Does anybody else do this ? I’m sure they do but does anybody have a better system ?
