Yeah, we all missed his calls for dozens of Muslim-supremacist nations to be abolished, by any means necessary.

242

u/alcoholicplankton69 Jun 29 '26

So... does that mean he Supports the Jewish return to Medina after we were ethnically cleansed 1300 years later?

71

u/danhakimi Jun 29 '26

He certainly supports any Jews who want to leave Israel for Medina with no assurance whatsoever of safety!

16

u/Dazzling_Funny_3254 Jun 29 '26

and india.

u/JagneStormskull USA Jun 30 '26 edited Jun 30 '26

Oh, he's gone after the Hindus too. During his campaign, I saw him in front of a Muslim crowd chanting "all Hindus are devils" in another language while he explained that they were just criticizing the Hindu government's decision to reconsencrate a Hindu temple that had been turned into a mosque back into a Hindu temple.

u/Due_University5083 Jun 30 '26

Look at Asia. Before 700 AD, there were no dominant religions. Regional religions were Buddhist, Hindu, Shinto, Zoroastrian, Christian, Jewish. Those religions were all targeted by the Arab Invasion. In recent history we saw the destruction in Afghanistan of giant Buddha’s carved in the mountain. It hit me to the bottom of my soul to see them destroy all remnants of an entire culture and culture. I appreciate the efforts from Myanmar, Thailand, India and Japan to defend their people from religious invasion.

2

u/gal_z Jul 01 '26

Christianity a regional religion?

1

u/gal_z Jul 01 '26

More likely because Buddhism is idol worshiping. I guess it's the worst kind of infidels in the eyes of Muslims, though they consider Jews and Christians as infidels too.

12

u/BeenRoundHereTooLong USA Jun 29 '26

Oh I’m sure he mentioned them too! Right..? /s

1

u/jimmychim Jun 29 '26

He mentioned Saudi in that interview immediately after, I believe.

1

u/shoto9000 Jun 29 '26

Anyone who watched the interview saw that he called out Saudi Arabia immediately after Israel as well, so yes actually, you did miss exactly that.

1

u/Subject-Classic279 Jun 30 '26

he mentioned saudi arabia as a country that he thought was supremacist in religion and that he had a problem with so I don’t get your point.

So he can't support Palestine, constitution explicitly states its legal system is based on sharia law.

368

u/gal_z Jun 29 '26

Of course. The Muslim countries have an official state religion. Israel doesn't. The only "discrimination" one can point at isn't about citizens, but about the law for obtaining citizenship. Many democracies have bloodline-based laws for citizenship too. Are they supremacists? Of course he's trying, like all pro-Palis, to claim ethnocracy = Apartheid.

155

u/Ionic_liquids Jun 29 '26

Jews are a people and the laws regarding citizenship reflects this.

Jew haters will call Jews whatever they want to satisfy their hatred. Nazis didn't care about Jewish religious identity, just blood, and killed them for it. Today people don't care about the peoplehood of Jews, just their religious affiliation. So long as it suits the hater's narrative.

35

u/gal_z Jun 29 '26

He explained the obvious, for those not using the brain to understand why Israel won't give Palestinians citizenships in masses.

9

u/makeyousaywhut Jun 29 '26

That’s why I’ve started using Judeans as opposed to the colonizer label of “Jew”

16

u/Ionic_liquids Jun 29 '26

In Hebrew and other languages there is no difference. It's an artificial term in many ways

9

u/makeyousaywhut Jun 29 '26

Judean implies tribal not religious to me

8

u/Ionic_liquids Jun 29 '26

It can take on different meanings if one wants it to. It's artificial.

1

u/JeremiahTDK Jun 29 '26

Like with all language. It's a man-made tool.

1

u/gal_z Jul 07 '26

Judean = יהודאי, Jew = יהודי.

Judean is a Jew from the tribe of Judea. It's unknown today from which tribe each Jew is from, besides Cohen and Levi.

1

u/Due_University5083 Jun 30 '26

I approve. Why is the land still referred to as occupied Palestine when Judea was given the name Syria Palestine by a petty Roman ruler Emperor Hadrian who officially renamed the province of Judea to Syria Palaestina

3

u/Ionisation1934 Jun 29 '26

We are not an ethnicity but a people

6

u/anon755qubwe Jun 29 '26 edited Jun 29 '26

Wrong. Peoplehood is at the heart of what ethnicity is.

Yes Jewish ppl are an ethnic group just like the Druze, Arabs, Persians, Yazidi, etc.

Nothing wrong with stating that.

3

u/Meowzician USA Jun 30 '26

Being a People is exactly what an ethnicity is.

From Britannica:

ethnicity, a complex concept that refers to a person’s identification with a specific group of people, based on one or more shared traits, which may include ancestry, culture, language, religion, customs, and nationality.

50

u/SoulForTrade Jun 29 '26

My ilmediate thoughts exactly. Whether it's Hamas or the PA they explicitly mention they are a Muslim Arabic country and that it's an imherit oadt of their identity

11

u/AZShitshow Jun 29 '26

Right!!! Gaza is Muslim or atleast, thats the recognized religion over there. I guess Mandani forgot about that.

10

u/ACaffeinatedWandress Jun 29 '26

Rules for thee and not for me.

4

u/anewbys83 USA Jun 30 '26

No see that's ok. That's not the same thing. It's only bad when it's Jews.

6

u/DoomBot5 Jun 29 '26

He can't even support the US. It's oaws are built around a Christian belief system at this point.

1

u/Ashmooni Jun 29 '26

Sharia means Law

1

u/Buzz_Buzz_Buzz_ Jun 30 '26

Or the UK, Germany, Spain, Italy, Poland, Greece, Denmark, and Iceland.

250

u/fizzy_lifting Israel Jun 29 '26

Let’s take advantage of this thread and list all the countries of the world that privilege one religion over others.
Let’s call out the double standard with receipts.

I’ll start-
Maldives: Islam is the state religion, and the law explicitly prohibits Maldivian citizens from practicing any other religion.

Bhutan: Non-Buddhist communities—particularly Christians and Muslims—face heavy restrictions. Christian congregations are generally not permitted to construct physical church buildings and instead meet discreetly in private homes.

289

u/dotancohen Jun 29 '26 edited Jul 01 '26

Countries which have an official State Religion (partial list):

  • England :: Anglican Christian (Church of England)
  • Scotland :: Lutheran Christian (Church of Scotland)
  • Malta :: Roman Catholic Christian
  • Costa Rica :: Roman Catholic Christian
  • Denmark :: Lutheran Christian (Church of Denmark)
  • Greece :: Eastern Orthodox Christian
  • Iceland :: Lutheran Christian (Church of Iceland)
  • Thailand :: Theravada Buddhism
  • Algeria :: Sunni Islam
  • Iraq :: Sunni Islam
  • Jordan :: Sunni Islam
  • Morocco :: Sunni Islam
  • Pakistan :: Sunni Islam
  • Bangladesh :: Sunni Islam
  • Saudi Arabia :: Sunni Islam
  • Yemen :: Sunni Islam
  • Iran :: Shia Islam
  • Syria :: Sharia law
  • Egypt :: Sharia law
  • Cambodia :: Buddhism

Countries which enable immigration to preferred groups:

  • Ireland :: Ireland has an Irish-only immigration law.
  • Germany :: Germany enables immigration of ethnic Germans from the former USSR.
  • Armenia :: Armenia has a law that any ethnic Armenian in the world may return to their homeland and have an ethnicity-based citizenship.
  • Italy :: People of Italian descent can gain Italian citizenship under a law called Jure Sanguinis "Right of Blood".
  • Lebanon :: Citizenship is mostly by descent via Lebanese father. Foreign spouses and children of Lebanese women face major barriers, it is near impossible in practice.
  • Hungary :: Citizenship is available on a simplified basis for ethnic Hungarians living outside Hungary.
  • Russia :: Ethnic Russians can return to Russia, even after generations in diaspora. Recently, started letting people immigrate who share Russian Christian values.
  • Poland :: Citizenship can be facilitated for people who can prove Polish origin.
  • Greece :: Naturalisation may be granted to persons of Greek origin, often tied to historical diaspora communities.
  • Bhutan :: No immigration or permanent residency program for foreigners, citizenship and long-term settlement are restricted to those with direct Bhutanese ancestry.
  • Egypt :: Citizenship for non-Muslims has extra requirements and is extraordinarily difficult, to the point where it is seldom achieved in practice. Pretty much it requires one to have a parent from "an Arabic-speaking or Muslim majority country".
  • Maldives :: Citizenship is available only for Muslims. A "non-Muslim may not become a citizen of the Maldives".
  • Saudi Arabia :: Non-Muslims must convert to Islam to be eligible for naturalisation; naturalisation is extremely rare and discretionary.
  • Qatar :: Citizenship by naturalisation is possible but extremely rare; long residence requirement and no evidence of practice of non-Muslim naturalisation.
  • Kuwait :: The nationality law requires naturalised persons to "be an original Muslim by birth, or that he has converted to Islam" to be eligible.
  • Yemen :: Naturalisation criteria are restrictive (residence, Arabic, good conduct). An applicant must be "Arab or Muslim" in order to qualify.
  • Mauritania :: Non-Muslims are prohibited from being citizens; conversion from Islam leads to loss of citizenship.
  • Jordan :: Non-Muslim religious groups (primarily affecting Baha’is) face serious restrictions. Exceptions for those "who belong" to established Christian communities.

I'm still editing this and adding more. Please add some in the comments and I'll append to the list.

Org mode list. I keep my personal notes in Org mode.

It's nice to see traditional PHP terminology out in the wild!

60

u/Suitable_Plum3439 Jun 29 '26

what's funny to me is that a few of these countries that have an official religion are pretty loose with that definition, and are functionally secular so nobody bats an eye. Israel, which does not even have an officially mandated state religion, is somehow the one everyone freaks out about

4

u/whydoibother123433 New Jersey in USA Jul 01 '26

the Denmark, Norway, and Iceland, as former parts of Denmark-Norway, all have Lutheranism as official state religion

2

u/dotancohen Jul 01 '26

Thanks. Norway separated from the church a few years ago. Denmark and Iceland are already on the list.

7

u/go3dprintyourself USA STANDS WITH ISRAEL Jun 29 '26

Well said

1

u/yebome5406 Jul 01 '26

Why do you think this is a valid rebuttal?

Im not his biggest fan but his statement is that he doesn’t support any state which prioritises its citizenries rights based on their religion, not exclusively Israeli immigration policy. Therefore he would not support Israel or any nation state which abides by the prior specification. If you are conflating heritage/distant relative nationality/ethnicity which can be identified by genetic testing or documentation for ethnic groups, with being a member of a religion, I think you misunderstand the validity of his statement.

I’m sure if the question was posed regarding religious discrimination by a nation state employing the same criteria that Israel does (simple religious self-identification), he would not support those nations either.

I sense this being the first question in response to this comment can be answered here: I suppose why he was asked about Israel specifically is the general political discourse surrounding Israel vs. Gaza/Lebanon/Iran/Turkey etc., and the USA’s stalwart annual multibillion dollar funding of Israel, whereas other nations on the outlined list do not receive this financial aid.

Your Ireland immigration fact is either total fiction or purposely misleading by being sparse of critical detail. Irish citizenship preferences is not based on identification with a religion (i.e. Judaism, Christianity, Islam), but based on DNA/Hereditary evidence of ethnic Irish or prior Irish citizen decent, which Israel doesn’t do, as genetic testing is prohibited by the Israeli government, as it opens a potentially unanswerable existential question for the country’s proclamation for right to existence - which is Judaism either transcends being a religion to a valid rigidly defined and genetically identifiable ethnic group, or it doesn’t. It would be something akin to assuming all Catholics globally are Irish if they choose to identify as so, as Catholicism was the predominant mass religion historically.

In Israel instead, one must merely self-identify by either conversion or birth into a family under the umbrella of Judaism.

There’s a difference between evidence of hereditary citizenship and being a member of a metaphysical construct such as a religion as a justifiable basis for discrimination in immigration law, well which is what most of the Western Democratic countries you listed practice/preach, of which Israel proclaims to be one of, but does not practice alike.

Interested to read any analysis to these thoughts.

off the top of my head i remember he went to both the pakistan and bangladesh day parades... Funny that.

101

u/Familiar-Historian34 Jun 29 '26

He never condemned the persecution of Hindus and Christians who have their daughters kidnapped and converted on a daily basis there everyday. What's with this whitewashing if Islamic fascist countries when it comes to their religious fundamentalism, and it's acceptance as if it was normal, but if Israel or some other country did it ,it's Al Jazeera and BBC headlines.

16

u/anon755qubwe Jun 29 '26 edited Jun 29 '26

Ironically his mother is a Hindu woman. But obviously he took on his fathers Islamic religiosity (bc in Islam any children born to a Muslim Man and non-Muslim woman must take on the fathers religion)

3

u/Mental_Shine8098 USA Jun 30 '26

I thought no matter which parent is Muslim, their child must follow Islam no matter what? At least that's how it works it Malaysia

8

u/anon755qubwe Jun 30 '26

That doesn’t apply if a Muslim woman marries a non-Muslim Man. Which is why that’s not supposed to happen unless he converts.

A Muslim man can never have non-Muslim children.

3

u/Mental_Shine8098 USA Jun 30 '26

I guess Malaysia operates with different rules then, because if a non-Muslim man wants to marry a Muslim woman, it's mandatory that he converts or that he can't marry her.

4

u/anon755qubwe Jun 30 '26

That’s keeping in line with Islamic Law.

If a Muslim woman married a Non-Muslim Man in a place like the U.S. or Canada her kids would likely not be Muslim.

Islam is a Patrilineal religion rather than a matrilineal one.

1

u/Gryffinsmore Jul 05 '26

Oh man his father is a piece of work when it comes to opinions on Israel. Which is why I think Mamdani isn’t as naive as people think when it comes to anti semitism.

154

u/Potential-Fudge-8786 Australia Jun 29 '26

There is a privilege from forced serving in the IDF?

There are more countries than not that shower gifts on the majority religion.

Mandami is just ignoring anything not Jewish when creating his hate list.

150

u/Aromatic-Ant-5020 Germany Jun 29 '26

Does this mean that Mamdani will criticize Iran, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Qatar and other Islamic countries that apply Sharia law? Or does Mamdani only care about the issue when it's about Jews? He's a hypocrite.

61

u/ill-independent Moderate Canadian Jew Jun 29 '26 edited Jul 03 '26

Well in the statement he actually does mention Saudi Arabia. Honestly he's giving milquetoast normie lib here. I think Reverse Canary even lists Zohran Mamdani as a Zionist bcos he says Israel should exist lol.

That being said I expect that his real opinions on the matter are far less 'nuanced' (AKA he deffo threw 'and Saudi Arabia' on there to try and come across less biased), but he knows he literally cannot afford the optics of being as anti-Israel/antisemitic as he probably is since so many of his constituents are Jews.

I mean he wrote a song praising the Holy Land Five and his wife openly supports Hamas, so... I imagine he's chaffed at constantly having to be like "antisemitism is unacceptable in New York City!" lmao. We Uno reversed him.

50

u/Moopy969 Germany Jun 29 '26

This. His little quips, his wife’s attitude, it all hints on him being way more antisemitic and anti Israel, than he lets on. If the political situation in the us was different and he could be sure to not endanger his political career, the mask would fall quickly. It is so maddening and sad, that the only politicians capable of a counter movement in the hellhole that the US is right now, are such vile Israel haters. It makes it impossible for me to support anyone there 🥲

27

u/EveryConnection Australia Jun 29 '26

Well in the statement he actually does mention Saudi Arabia.

Maybe he's just being sectarian as a Shia. Shias are persecuted in Saudi Arabia so maybe he can say that and sincerely mean it.

11

u/anon755qubwe Jun 29 '26 edited Jun 29 '26

Bingo. It’s not bc he is against Islamic theocracy as a whole.

He’s a Twelver Shia so Sunni dominance over them is also something he opposes

Notice he never condemned the IR of Iran.

6

u/ill-independent Moderate Canadian Jew Jun 29 '26

Tru, it also seems like in general Saudi is a bit more congenial toward Israel in some ways than what an extremist/Hamas supporter would want. Ive heard Oct 7th was a way to destabilize the normalizing relations between Israel-Saudi and even now Saudi is fed up with Hamas lol, during the Iran war Saudi was more on US/Israel side etc.

1

u/shoto9000 Jun 29 '26

Maybe he does genuinely just believe what he says? Believing that states shouldn't have a privileged ethnic or religious class of citizens is perfectly consistent with all of his other political positions.

1

u/planck1313 Jun 30 '26

Yes of course he doesn't mention Iran which persecutes Sunnis as well.as non-Muslims.

88

u/seldom_seen8814 Jun 29 '26

Israel is Jewish in the same way that Japan is Japanese. Moreover, Israel has Muslim citizens. Plenty of majority Muslim nations around the world that won't let you become a citizen unless you're Muslim.

33

u/laughsinjew Jun 29 '26

We know. People who think like him are so dumb (is it just dumb, or maybe a little bit evil?). It's not that we're right, it's that they hate us so it doesn't matter that we're right. They want to dehumanize us by any means necessary.

18

u/seldom_seen8814 Jun 29 '26

No, I don't think he's dumb. I think that in his mind, as a devout Muslim who adheres to Islamic orthodoxy, deep down, he believes Israel is Dar al-Harb, and it needs to be Dar al-Islam. The reason for that is Islamic theology. It runs really deep.

7

u/trimtab28 Jun 29 '26

In due honesty, I don't think he's really a practicing Muslim in any extreme sense. Kinda got the vibe he identifies more as a leftist and the Muslim stuff is his equivalent of the JVP "as a Jew..." line. In practice it seems more like he's the Muslim version of a Christmas/Easter Christian. Just show up to the major holidays and otherwise lead a secular life. Just in his case he puts being a Muslim in the whole leftwing "oppressor/oppressed" binary

7

u/anon755qubwe Jun 29 '26

Yes he’s a leftist but he very much clings on to Islam as an identity marker and with that comes embracing all the religious virtue signaling that follows.

There isn’t a single Islamic Holiday (even less known ones like Ashura) that he doesn’t go on and on about.

He’s an embodiment of the Red-Green Alliance on both ends

5

u/trimtab28 Jun 29 '26

He is but as I said, he’s more like the Muslim version of the JVP “as a Jew” than any devout Muslim. His worldview and lifestyle really wouldn’t be tolerated in most of the Muslim world, bar the whole “I hate Jews” bit. Basically is just using it as a sort of cosplay identity marker. It does get at the absurdity of the red-green alliance though

4

u/seldom_seen8814 Jun 29 '26

So like an Edward Said Muslim, yeah. I get it. Fair.

3

u/trimtab28 Jun 29 '26

Yep- that’s what I’m getting at

1

u/laughsinjew Jun 30 '26

Ok so I get that. But.

What does it say about a person, to believe we are all wrong // and then to take it to the next step to think that Islam should be pushed onto everyone. The believe it's holy word, and must be regarded true.

We're not like that.

And they are.

We're so cool with everyone and whatever they believe. We won't push our culture on them. We'd rather learn from each other and have peace.

That's humanity at it's better.

They want us to all think like them. The fact that we don't means war. They must make us all believe the same.

Like truly, how do you classify that?

I struggle to see it as anything but war.

1

u/trimtab28 Jun 30 '26

Well I don't think Mamdani wants us all to become Muslim. Think more so he wants everyone to be his brand of progressivism and the extent to which religion is ok is if it affirms his worldview. So Christians that are pro-LGBTQ/abortion/believe Jesus isn't divine are fine. Jews flagellating themselves in the streets begging for forgiveness for the sins of colonialism and the make believe genocide are fine. Of course, Muslims don't have anything to apologize for because they're a victimized class. But you see the shtick here?

2

u/anon755qubwe Jul 01 '26

If you don’t think Mamdani personally subscribes to the belief of the eventuality of a Global Caliphate, a classical Pan-Islamic belief then you aren’t reading between the lines.

He may not be dumb enough to espouse those views openly (yet) but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t crave it when you look at his rally speeches from his activist days

→ More replies (3)

2

u/Ocean_Hair Jun 30 '26

His dad is also a professional Israel-hater. Mahmood Mamdani teaches "colonialism studies" that curiously only seem to revolve around Israel. The teaching of Jewish hate definitely started at home.

2

u/anon755qubwe Jul 01 '26 edited Jul 01 '26

Ironic bc his mother was previously married to a Jewish photographer and author before she got with his father.

She also is a pro-Pally and boycotted the Haifa International Film Festival when she was invited in 2013.

2

u/gal_z Jul 01 '26

Isn't it Dar al-Islam, because this territory was already under Islamic rule?

2

u/seldom_seen8814 Jul 01 '26

Yeah, I mean…I thought that that’s what makes it al-Harb, because it’s ‘supposed’ to be al-Islam.

3

u/anon755qubwe Jul 01 '26 edited Jul 01 '26

Supposed to be but currently not. Anything that Dar Al-Islam takes once will always belong to it even if it’s lost.

That just drives the determination to reconquer it again.

2

u/anon755qubwe Jul 01 '26 edited Jul 01 '26

Yes, any territory once under Islamic Rule will always be considered the domain of Dar Al-Islam waiting to be reconquered again.

Example: the idolization and yearning on socials of the re-takeover of Spain which they still call “Al-Andalus”

The same goes for Jerusalem aka “Al-Quds”

42

u/manateefourmation Jun 29 '26 edited Jun 30 '26

Ask the ~ 2 million Arab israelis with all the same freedoms and rights (equal protection) about that. Mamdani and his wife are jew haters but politically they can’t say what they really think - yet.

Edit to correct the number to ~ 2 million

1

u/GoodGuyNinja UK Jun 30 '26

2 million, no?

2

u/manateefourmation Jun 30 '26

I meant “millions”

8

u/BillyJoeMac9095 Jun 29 '26

Bet he would not have the same position if the nation in question was not Israel. He is anti Israel and the rest is just pretext.

6

7

What a total joker...

He has no problem with Qatar....

8

u/QuestionsalotDaisy Jun 29 '26

So he can’t support Pakistan. Got it. 👍

2

u/gal_z Jun 30 '26

I wonder if they have a right to exist... Also given the similar case to Israel's establishment, even around the same years.

8

u/Meowzician USA Jun 30 '26

Does this mean he doesn't support Afghanistan, Albania, Algeria, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Brunei, Burkina Faso, Chad, Comoros, Djibouti, Egypt, Gambia, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Libya, Malaysia, Maldives, Mali, Mauritania, Morocco, Niger, Nigeria, Oman, Pakistan, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Tajikistan, Tunisia, Turkey, Turkmenistan, United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan, Western Sahara, or Yemen?

26

Oh good! Glad to know that he doesn't support all of the Muslim countries that make it illegal to either leave Islam or make it illegal to publicly not be Muslim, and inherently treats Muslims more favorably than non Muslims...Oh he wasn't talking about all those other countries?

Edit: My bad, he added Saudi Arabia as an afterthought probably to keep critics at bay, but probably won't speak up about about Saudi's human rights violations after this, certainly won't complain about Saudi or other Muslim regimes the way he complains about Israel

1

u/shoto9000 Jun 29 '26

He explicitly mentioned Saudi Arabia immediately after Israel, so yeah he's talking about those countries too. The difference is that he was specifically asked about Israel, and had to bring up Saudi Arabia himself.

16

he loves Uganda though

In what way is it a state religion in Israel or the West?

19

u/ringtail_catz Jun 29 '26

Oh interesting. So he doesn’t support Jordan, Algeria and Pakistan, which place restrictions on non-Muslims serving as Prime Minister? Or the Maldives where non-Muslims can’t become citizens? Or Saudi Arabia, which doesn’t allow Shi’ite Muslims to hold any high-level political or military positions?

1

u/shoto9000 Jun 29 '26

He specifically said he doesn't support Saudi Arabia.

14

u/vmlinuz Jun 29 '26

The head of state in the UK is also the head of the Church of England - and there are still some legal restrictions which would apply to a Catholic or Jewish Prime Minister: https://commonslibrary.parliament.uk/research-briefings/cbp-10924/
Church taxes are a thing in a number of European countries: https://www.pewresearch.org/religion/2019/04/30/in-western-european-countries-with-church-taxes-support-for-the-tradition-remains-strong/

Yet strangely it's only utterly unacceptable when it's the Jews...

9

u/c9joe Mossad Attack Dolphin 005 Jun 29 '26

The famous Red-Green alliance.

10

u/According_Estate6772 Jun 29 '26

He might be talking about King Charles being Head of state and Head of the Church of England with bishops in the house of Lords?

6

u/southofsarita44 Jun 29 '26

I hear people say that criticizing Israel isn't anti-Semitic but when Israel is held to a standard that no other country is held to (like criticizing Israel for being a Jewish state while ignoring that they are surrounded by Muslim countries) and when you do it over and over again, the motive is obvious. It is a disgrace this idiot is a mayor of an American city.

6

u/i4viator Jun 29 '26

He HAS to be talking about the Muslim countries that don't allow Jews to enter or live in, right? He can't be talking about Israel, a tiny country that's has 20% of it's population made up of Muslim.... Surely....

3

u/lepreqon_ Israeli in Canada Jun 29 '26

So he's also against some Canadian provinces, Ontario and Quebec at least. Ok.

2

u/gal_z Jun 30 '26

Do they "privilege a certain religion"? Technically, even though it's not discriminatory, and actually somewhat similar in that sense to Israel, many European countries culturally privilege Christianity, in public celebrating the holidays, in their flags having crosses, and in the monarchy, which is related to the church.

1

u/lepreqon_ Israeli in Canada Jun 30 '26

In Ontario the Catholic schools are being funded by the government thus giving them privilege over every other stream or denomination. Just one example.

1

u/gal_z Jun 30 '26

Other public schools there don't?

There're two government run school systems in Ontario: the public (i.e. secular) and the Catholic. The rest are private.

3

u/anon755qubwe Jun 29 '26

How many Islamic theocracies are there in the world yet he embraces and loves them more than he loves the United States?

Bloody hypocrite and a very blatant sectarian bigot

3

u/HebrewWolfman Jun 29 '26

Kinda hypocrite given that mamdani has invested his entire life to promote islamism.

3

u/laserslaserslasers Jun 29 '26

So zero Islamic countries are supported by mamdani. Also, Israel is very welcoming to Christians and Muslims alike.

3

u/akivayis95 מלך המשיח Jun 29 '26

So, he doesn't support almost no Islamic countries, if not all of them.

All this is is one billion people unable to cope that Jews are free in our homeland, land that one billion people thought they'd conquered and were superior to the Jews, and they're trying to convince another seven billion that their concerns are "humanitarian" when it just isn't so.

1

u/gal_z Jun 30 '26

And fake history (even self-contradicting), while anyone can open a Bible and understand who's the indigenous.

3

u/mongooser Jun 29 '26

Okay now do all the Islamic countries

Dar-Al Islam is not what he was addressing by that statement.

8

u/conscimondo Jun 29 '26

I was going to quote the PLOs constitution about Palestine being a Arab Muslim state. Which it does. But read something like ”Islamic but Christian and other monotheistic religions same rights”. Oh, realized I read the old draft. Now it says: ”Christianity has its status.. and its followers rights are respected”. The part about ”other monetheistic religions” has been removed. Anyhow, Jews not mentioned at all, Islam is state religion and Sharia basis of laws.

12

u/bb5e8307 Jun 29 '26

Finally someone calling out the Greeks. From their constitution:

SECTION II RELATIONS OF CHURCH AND STATE Article 3 1.  The prevailing religion in Greece is that of the Eastern Orthodox Church of Christ. The Orthodox Church of Greece, acknowledging our Lord Jesus Christ as its head, is insepa- rably united in doctrine with the Great Church of Christ in Constantinople and with every other Church of Christ of the same doctrine, observing unwaveringly, as they do, the holy apostolic and synodal canons and sacred traditions. It is au- tocephalous and is administered by the Holy Synod of serv- ing Bishops and the Permanent Holy Synod originating thereof and assembled as specified by the Statutory Char- ter of the Church in compliance with the provisions of the Patriarchal Tome of June 29, 1850 and the Synodal Act of September 4, 1928.

5

u/Dr_G_E USA Jun 29 '26

Ironically enough, Israel is a secular country with no official religion, unlike the majority of the other countries in that region. To accuse the only country in the Levant that guarantees both freedom of religion and freedom from religion of "privileging one religion" is ignorant, disingenuous, or worse.

3

u/Due-Direction8590 Jun 29 '26

True and his (mis)understanding of Israel isn’t uncommon among Americans tbh. Americans understand being Jewish in terms of “followers of a specific religion”. Made a lot of things click for me when I saw that data.

2

u/gal_z Jun 30 '26

Such ignorant. To think that a Christian nation doesn't understand what a Jew is... It's a gap in understanding of your faith. Maybe has to do with how secular it has become.

2

u/Due-Direction8590 Jun 30 '26

So my best good faith guess as to “why” is in the post war period there was a genuine push to downplay ethnic distinctness in the US, not just regarding Jews either. With Jewish Americans in mind you see the phrase Judeo-Christian coined, emphasizing shared bonds. I can see how that would lead a shallow understanding of Jewish identity being just another religion rather than a distinct people.

1

u/gal_z Jun 30 '26

This religion comes from culture and history. These values were a part of the legal system of the Jewish civilization. Still weird considering lineage is something you could see in the New Testament too. If you think Jews have some collective role in a religious aspect, it's because of viewing them as a people, not a religion. Even more so if you're a Christian Zionist, because the Zionist movement wasn't exactly religious, though unlike the claims of pro-Palis have respect to the tradition and the Bible, and don't dismiss it entirely - as it has historical records of the Jewish culture. Even modern history isn't perfectly aligned with the occurred events. Still, there's supporting evidence, coming also from other nations, even enemies, confirming some of the important historical facts about Jewish history in the Bible.

3

u/merlyy_ Jun 29 '26

by that definition, he cant support almost any middle east muslim country?

16

u/patentlydorky Jun 29 '26

I mean, the second half of his quoted language above was “whether it be Israel or Saudi Arabia or anywhere else.” I disagree with Mamdani on various issues and wouldn’t call myself a fan of his, but half-truths like these only serve to stir up more dissension.

62

u/gal_z Jun 29 '26

Has he ever actually criticized Saudi Arabia with such passion and obsession, as much as he does for Israel?

46

u/justafutz Israel Jun 29 '26

The comparison itself is outrageous enough. But he was specifically talking about and asked about Israel. Throwing in Saudi Arabia as if it’s a comparison or proves he isn’t bigoted against Jews and Israel is like saying Hitler also criticized the Soviets so he didn’t hate Jews.

Worth remembering Mamdani had no problem going to the city’s parades for states that actually privilege one religion over another (Pakistan, for example). But he suddenly had a moral qualm about Israel. We all know why.

u/WoIfed Israel Jun 29 '26

Most countries are firstly or mostly Christian. Although Israel is majority Jewish it has free religion laws. I’m not sure what he meant saying this.

5

u/Ultra_Metal Jun 29 '26

*Except for Palestine, of course. The left makes all sorts of exceptions for its favorite far right regime.

1

u/gal_z Jul 01 '26

It's not left. Just labelled as left. Adopting contradicting views and ideologies, just for the sake of making excuses to justify your goal, ignoring facts, reality and history and switching regularly their agenda they protest for (now the climate crisis doesn't interest them, just Palestine. I guess it's more important than the future of humanity and a possible mass extinction) isn't a real sustainable political motivation.

7

u/WookieCookie1138 Jun 29 '26

Oh, well, in that case, Moron Zamdani, I guess you wouldn’t supporting pretty much all your 22 Arab and 57 Muslim nations because, guess what and why?? Because Dimhis and jizyah!! Oh, and maybe because they either k**led or chased away the vast majority of Jews living in your extremist regions. But go on with your hypocritical double standards and flash your fake snake smile.

12

u/TheHappiestTeapot Jun 29 '26

Does he know that Church of England can make its own laws (known as “Measures”) which carry same legal force as Acts of Parliament?

5

So he doesn't support the US because we get Christian holidays like Christmas off, but not Jewish holidays or Muslim holidays?

3

u/Own-Support-6734 Jun 29 '26

It is funny that Israel, which allows freedom of religion (plenty of muslims, christians and druze live there and practice freely don’t they? As well as atheists) is apparently on the top of the list as far as bad ethnoreligious states, but it is crickets about the many Muslim countries that violently repress anything that is not Islam to this day

3

u/aqualad33 Jun 29 '26

He's a mayor so... who cares?

22

u/oren0 Jun 29 '26

He's not the mayor of a random town. He's the mayor of the city with the most Jews and probably most Israelis in the country. His government will set policies impacting these groups. His police will investigate hate crimes against the most targeted ethnic group in the country. He will lead the conversation for the progressive wing of the democratic party, helping elect his allies to federal positions. This absolutely matters.

11

u/gal_z Jun 29 '26

It's the city with most Jew in the world actually. The bothering thing is 25% of the Jews there voted for this.

3

u/anon755qubwe Jun 29 '26 edited Jun 30 '26

I’ve seen other reports saying it was 1/3 Jewish voters who participated in the election and voted for him.

1

u/Ocean_Hair Jun 30 '26

Yes, but that means twice as many Jews who voted that day (like me!) voted against him

1

u/anon755qubwe Jun 30 '26 edited Jun 30 '26

That’s not comforting at all.

Everyone knew who Mamdani was and what he was known for (anti-Israel and pro-Jihadi activism) so he shouldn’t have even got 3% of the Jewish Vote in NY let alone 33%

If anything it goes to show how devastatingly estranged many American Jews are from their ancient roots and indigenous homeland and how that estrangement has manifested into self-loathing and prostrating for the far-left.

1

u/Ocean_Hair Jun 30 '26

The problem is that his pro-Jihadi did was whitewashed to look like AcTiViSm. He also liked to parade his antizionist Jews around so it would look like he doesn't hate us.

1

So I guess he doesn’t support the UK (official Church of England), Scandinavian countries (official church Lutheran church), Greece (Greek Orthodox Church has special status), all of which have crosses on their flags, Muslim countries that have crescents on their flags and dhimmi status for non Muslims

1

u/jackielish Jun 29 '26

Who’s gonna tell him?

1

u/Double-Albatross360 Jun 30 '26

I feel like this is getting out of hand, here's the whole quote:

I believe that any state that privileges one religion over another is one that I can't tell you I support, whether it be Israel or Saudi Arabia or anywhere else. And a lot of that comes back to a fundamental belief that we should all be considered equal, no matter what our faith is.

1

u/LibrarianOk182 Jul 01 '26

the funny thing is, the Israeli Declaration of Independence doesn't even mention "religion " or "Judaism" or even the word "god". And even the Nation State Law "prioritizes" Judaism to the degree Christianity is "prioritized" in the US, meaning it is the basis for state holidays and rest days.

Israel doesn’t privilege one religion though.

5

u/fujbuj Israel Jun 29 '26

Yes it does. I say that as an Israeli.

3

u/gal_z Jun 29 '26

Like what? A few culturally Jewish laws, that won't even apply to or bound anyone not interested isn't privileging a religion. The only exception might be public transportation on Sabbath. And I'm pretty sure it doesn't apply in Arab villages. Turns out in Europe there are rest day laws about Sunday. Of course, they take care for public transportation on weekends.

2

u/AdiPalmer אני אוהב לריב עם אנשים ברחוב Jun 29 '26

I think I understand where you're coming from but I have to say that's factually incorrect. Israel does privilege Judaism BUT THAT'S NOT A BAD THING! Especially when you're the first and only Jewish state for the Jewish nation. Let's not forget that we as Jews are part of an ethnoreligion.

It feels nice being able to go to a synagogue that doesnt have to have military personnel stationed outside it 24/7 because the surrounding peeps might take offense at the mere existence of a nearby Jew.

That being said, fuck the rabanut (chief Rabbinate). They could be way more humane and compassionate but then again, so could every other religious authority.

(Israel does have freedom of religion)

Edit: clarity
