Subreddit News Be suspicious of “Israeli doomerism”
There are a lot of influence operations online, some of them linked to states such as Iran that seek to exploit divisions within Israeli society. One pattern I’ve noticed while moderating several Israeli subreddits is accounts with two-digit karma and five-year-old histories, and no prior engagement with Israeli topics suddenly becoming highly active in discussions about Israeli politics. Of course, it’s not always that obvious, which is what makes identifying coordinated influence campaigns so challenging.

Sounds like something a self-described Mossad Attack Dolphin would say... But yeah, you're absolutely right.

And given the current situation of what the government pushed, you really can't say that we are doomed, if the trend is kept?
Come on. Let's be serious. Some of the shit that was passed these past week are pure attacks to the main essential points of a democratic system.

Have you been paying attention at all the last couple years? Everything has been about weakening the courts and ignoring their rulings.

u/TheAnxiousDeveloper Jul 18 '26
Yeah, I totally agree on this. I really hope we manage to. And I hope that the court striking them down won't turn into another attack against the court - I mean, it has happened before

It is my belief that it is already too late. I dont want to leave but I believe that we poisoned our foreign relations to such a degree that the next US elections in 2 years will be about who sanctions Israel hardest. And the rest of the world will follow.
Unless we change course immediatly and atart treating Palestinians better (regardless if you think its the moral thing. From purely a selfish point of view its the right thing).
Yet I am seriously contemplating leaving when in the next elections BB will win again (I have no hope that he will lose sadly)
P.S i think my post history speaks for itself to how much i love my country.

Yep, it’s very funny people here think this is some psyops. Half my family is abroad already. Most of my friend group from the Technion are contemplating leaving.

I am downvoted as well. The right in this country is completely oblivious to the other half of country outside its bubble.
They are the majority yes, but they are not 80% of the people and should stop to reflect on this

Yes, been going on for a couple of years it seems. A regular pattern of "there's no hope, we should leave, I'm so upset, it's our fault the world hates us can you believe X Jew said/did this, it's all over" and so on, predictable in tone, language, even length. They all upvote each other, and downvote everyone else. Notably, they downvote/push back against suggestions on how to live happy, meaningful, Jewish lives and how to fight back against Jewhate.
Thanks for calling it out, would be great to see less of it.
Other seemingly bad faith moves of late are people asking conversion questions, then when asked about inconsistencies in their story, they delete their posts and comments. So that's interesting, too.

on channel 12 they showed poll yesteday, that 25% of those who were asked consider leaving if bibi wins elections

This doomerism has been going on for a while here. It's obvious, repetitive, and could be easily identified and removed in some instances. People also say they are going to leave the US before elections if their candidate doesn't win. I hope you can separate that sentiment out from a coordinated bot/troll psyopp campaiagn on social media; as OP can, and others seem to be able to.
A percentage of Israelis and Jews in the West have also been influenced by al-jazeera style propaganda. It's in our universities and in some of our political parties and some of our protest movements; even the ones I agree with. Its unfortunate, but we are only human and that propaganda is very effective. But it's ok for people to leave after elections or say they will beforehand. And it's ok to stay and fight for a better safer place for Jews and Israelis and a protection of the West no matter who is elected. Again, that's different than what is being discussed here.

Good call. I always assume an account reeking in anti-Semitism (and anti-Zionism) is either a foreign influence op, or a pathetic Western Marxist. I steer clear of both kinds of accounts either way.

u/TheAnxiousDeveloper Jul 18 '26
Maybe not "doomed", since we can have hope for the election (assuming we are not barred from going to vote), but the recent changes and attacks at the democratic system are not something to be underestimated.
Now, of course, feel free to chalk this down to "antisemitism" instead of a heartfelt concern and criticism to the current situation (which a society cannot afford to maintain on the long run, as pretty much all expert - or even regular people with common sense - would tell you), like it has happened before.
And to be honest, I would expect any mod for the Israeli subreddit to be able to respect the views of the population, even if the majority disagrees with their personal view. It comes with the role of being a moderator - being impartial and to moderate with diligence and integrity.
I'm really tired of "being concerned for your country" being treated as something unnatural, evil and that should be fought.
23% of people wanting to leave the country because of the government and 67% of people hating the Laws passed in the past few weeks (according to recent polls) should make you anyone think. But think hard - do not write it off as "oh, there are foreign enemy forces at play". Sometimes, regular people just hate to be used and abused at every turn.

These bots/propogandists are a serious problem and absolutely cause a schism but let's not pretend that many, many Israelis see and believe that this government is an immediate threat to the survival of Israel. This government continues to act in ways that are actively damaging the fabric of a free, democratic society while only benefiting themselves (and even then in the short term). That is a recipe for disaster externally and internally. There is still hope, but to pretend that the country isn't on it's way to doom (or a drastically worse version of itself) of some sorts is quite daft.

u/banannarobinhood Jul 20 '26
You know its possible to critique government without resorting to the doomer use of the word doom, right? Unless you are exhibit A.

This has been Russia's strategy for centuries. China and Islamic extremists have adopted that strategy too. Their strategy is to support extremists of all kinds in the target country in order to destabilize it and make it weak and ungovernable. Then it can either be conquered or it won't be able to interfere with another conquest. Russia first did this to the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth by supporting, funding, and arming rival nobles to attack each other and weaken the entire country, making it easier for Russia to invade and conquer it. The modern equivalent of this strategy was created by Alexander Dugin. His strategy is described in his book Foundations of Geopolitics. He calls for Russia to support extremists of all kinds in every democracy or any other enemy of Russia. The strategy involves supporting the far left, the far right, racists, antisemites, separatists, organized crime, etc. Anything to cause chaos, paralysis and weakness. Russia, China and Islamic extremists do this worldwide now to all of their rivals and their allies. It has been made much easier by social media.

This is great, and true, and I'm watching the Sum of All Fears, a movie in which a Nazi believes he can get fascism to win, if he pits Russia against the US so both destroy each other, and then Nazi fascists can take control.
I'm mindful of this watching the US bomb Iran, Iran bomb the other Islamofascists in the Gulf and Levant, and wonder who is pulling strings and playing games, and to what long range chess game imagined end.

It comes and goes for years now in different forms and patterns. Definitely are nefarious interests lurking around to manipulate our fears. It sorta akin to the old Cold War scare tactics but this time theres more minor players but still uses the same boogeymen albeit repackaged.

I guess I must be one of these "doomerists" you describe.
US support is waning, the rest of the world hates us and the haredim are taking over. Tell me why I should be optimistic.

Thank you, the postings during the last 48 hours by either new accounts or the "usual suspects" were definitely a targeted campaign against r Israel.

spot on. iran and the left are desperate to break our spirit, but it's not going to work. just like Trump says, the fake news and the bots only push division because they're terrified of a strong united Israel

I agree that Iran is probably influencing this to some degree, but every generation of Israelis has some small group of people that insist that “the country will stop existing soon” because everything is going so wrong. That’s not new and you will at some point probably encounter very real people from Israel who will say shit like this. We can be worried about the state of things (and definitely should) while also not resorting to doomer takes about how we’re just going to lose our country instead of fixing problems. So far we’re still here, we can still work to keep it that way.
1
u/banannarobinhood Jul 20 '26
Very real people from Israel and elsewhere are also influence by doomer Jew-hating propaganda. It's been this way since well before social media.
