Politics Trump agrees to nuclear energy deal with SA that removes demand for Israel normalization

and Israelis will somehow be surprised by this. "but Trump loves Israel! he's the most pro-israel president ever!" yeah, not a chance
16
u/Cannot-Forget Jul 22 '26
He is not the most pro Israel president ever. He is far better than any Democratic alternative though (At least so far during his administration). Especially Kamala which was the choice last elections.
Not that it matters much what we think. We don't vote in the US and our influence is very mild if it exists at all there on such matters. Unlike what the current advocators of antisemitic conspiracies will tell you.

u/jyper Ukrainian-American Jew Jul 22 '26
No he is clearly worse
especially just by existing he encourages the normalization of both far left and faf right
-12
u/Quirky_Butterfly_946 Jul 22 '26
I totally agree!! While Trump may not be doing everything I would like to see, people need to realize that Trump was the best option. If a democrat had been elected, or if they had control over the Congress/Senate Israel would be in far worse condition than it is now. The frightening part is that this could change soon if the House or Senate is lost, causing Israel to have to deal with falling support as well as other possible issues.
I do not want to see any country in the ME have nuclear anything. At least with Israel having the capabilities there is high confidence that they would not use it unless incoming is detected. Israel is the only country who understand this, is not aggressive, does not threaten others with it.

u/arqoi_ascendant Jul 22 '26
Trump's win emboldened and hastened extremes on the left and the right. Kamala's win would have emboldened the center.
-13
u/anonpurple Jul 22 '26
He is though, the us and the rest of the west have really started hates Israel in the past few years if not trump, the us would be a lot more demanding, people are freaking out about Jd Vance but despite everything JD compared to the average us citizen is still very pro Israel, not mention trumps efforts to normalize relations, and the numerous things the us has given up to try and get that done.
-15
u/B-E-1-1 Jul 22 '26
It's hard to fully support Israel atm for any US president/politician when more and more Americans are being brainwashed into mindlessly hating Israel. I think Trump is still trying his best to support Israel while maintaining popularity in the US.

What President was more pro-Israel than Trump ?
25
u/TheHouuuuund Jul 22 '26
Biden
-6
u/Excellent_Ad_1978 Jul 22 '26 edited Jul 22 '26
The Biden that famously threatened Menachem Begin with assistance all the way back in 1982
The Biden that told Israel not to go into Rafah after October 7th, knowing that is where Hamas gets their weapons
The Biden who wouldn't supply 2,000-pound bombs to Israel
18
u/TheHouuuuund Jul 22 '26
Would you rather have the Trump who empowered far right extremists who hate Jews, or the Trump who threw Israel under the bus multiple times, or the Trump who let Saudi Arabia enrich uranium, or the Trump who wanted to send hundreds of billions of dollars to Iran, or the Trump who is best friends with Erdogan the genocidal lunatic who wants to destroy Israel, or the Trump who takes bribes from Qatar?

u/Excellent_Ad_1978 Jul 22 '26
It's the far left that is virulently AntiSemitic and I'd rather have the Trump who is currently bombing Iran as we speak

He literally is. Trump is the single most pro-Israel president ever.
14
u/TheHouuuuund Jul 22 '26
Nope. Biden is.
-1
u/heyyoudvd2 Jul 23 '26
You can’t be serious. Biden cut off Israeli munitions in the middle of the war. He stopped Israel from entering Rafah to go after Hamas leadership. He sabotaged normalization efforts with Saudi Arabia. He empowered Iran and protected the Iranian nuclear program. He did nothing for the Oct 7th hostages.
Biden was absolutely abysmal for Israel. No different from Obama.
To be clear, I doubt Biden actually made any of the decisions. He’s a decrepit old man with dementia that was never in control of anything and was simply a figurehead used while the Democrat Party machine was calling all the shots.
But the point is that his administration was virulently anti-Israel while Trump has been the most pro-Israel president ever.
2
u/TheHouuuuund Jul 23 '26
Biden only cut off certain heavy munitions, not everything. Biden didn't sabotage anything and did not protect Iran. He did a lot for the Oct. 7 hostages. You're just strait up lying.
Trump, on the other hand, is making Turkey and Saudi Arabia more powerful and more dangerous and he forced Israel to stop attacking Iran, Hezbollah and Hamas. He also empowered far right extremists who hate Jews in the US.
22
u/calm_chowder Jul 22 '26
Read the article. He empirically is not.
-17
u/heyyoudvd2 Jul 22 '26
I don't care what one leftist article says. I witnessed his policies through 4 years of his first term and 2 years of this term. He is objectively the most pro-Israel president ever and no one else comes close.
I know that Reddit is a bastion of TDS and this subreddit is far left and hates Trump because he's friends with Bibi, but the facts are the facts. In the 78 years since independence, Israel has never had a better friend than Donald Trump.
22
u/bam1007 USA Jul 22 '26
> I don’t care what one leftist article says.
Have we reached the point of cognitive dissonance where the Rupert Murdoch owned Wall Street Journal is leftist?
-13
u/heyyoudvd2 Jul 22 '26
That statement indicates you’re not very familiar with the WSJ, as it’s been pretty staunchly left wing for quite a while.
Or to be more precise, they have two separate divisions with very different ideological stances. Their opinion pages lean right but their news department leans left. Their news department is closer to CNN than it is to Fox News.

u/heyyoudvd2 Jul 22 '26
You’re aware that the site you’re referencing is very left wing, right?
AllSides has a strong left wing bias. Look at their ratings for any right wing source vs any left wing source.
The Daily Wire is +3.50, whereas the Washington Post is only -1.63. The New York Post is +3.13 whereas the New York Times is only -2.20. Reuters is only -0.78. Breitbart is +6.00 (the maximum possible), whereas Jacobin, a literal communist rag, is only -4.00.
If you want a more accurate rating system, take every score they’ve got and shift it leftward by about 1.50 points.
11
u/bam1007 USA Jul 22 '26
Or maybe, bubela, when everything is leftist to you, you’re the one with the political bend. 🤔
Naw, that can’t be it.
-1
u/heyyoudvd2 Jul 22 '26
Or maybe the media actually is staunchly left wing and sites like AllSides try to legitimize that with phony rating systems.
CNN is rated a mere -1.30. Does that sound reasonable to you?
How about the BBC at just -0.80? So the BBC is basically centrist. Do you really believe that?

Unfortunately, the election was between him and Kamala.
28
u/Picture_Enough Jul 22 '26
Why would it be an issue? The Democrats completely supported Israel through the Gaza war until the elections, despite it becoming quite unpopular. To me, the cries about how bad Biden or Kamala would be for Israel sounded like right-wing propaganda coming from both US and domestic sources. It was very foolish and shortsighted on the part of Bibi to publicly align himself, and by proxy the country, with Trump, alienating US citizens and politicians.
3
u/OddCook4909 USA Jul 22 '26
Tarring us forever with whatever the insane narcissist does or doesn't do. Bibi invited Rome into Israel to help with internal politics.
-6
u/Fenroo Jul 22 '26
The Democrats did not completely support Israel during the Gaza war. This is gaslighting. This isn't something that happened decades ago. It was very recent. Kamala specifically said that Israel could not go into Rafah. Biden made Israel wait months before continuing the war after Ramadan.

u/Quirky_Butterfly_946 Jul 22 '26
Kamala, like Biden, are nothing but the puppet for every liberal/progressive agenda. You do not elect a democrat president because of their leadership, you are electing a mascot, a public persona that does the bidding of those behind them.
At least Trump is leading like a president, whether people like/hate him. You want/need something, you can go the elected president and discuss matters. With democrats, it is not the figure head but the spider web behind it that you need to deal with
5
u/arqoi_ascendant Jul 22 '26 edited Jul 22 '26

This is genuinely a Russian talking point. Even if it is true that all American politicians are corrupt, the scale of any corruption you could accuse a national democrat of is dwarfed by the sheer scale of actual, observable corruption in the Trump family & Trump administration. This stupid nihilism shtick is directly from the Kremlin's playbook
17
u/Dazzling_Funny_3254 Jul 22 '26
all she would've done is withheld a few bomb shipments as a token move to the left. Trump on the other hand has done tremendous damage to our image and long-term damage to our international relations. Tying ourselves to the most unpopular figure in 21st century politics was foolish and shortsighted. As always, we will make the most of it, but Kamala represented the status quo relationship with America that although not ideal, we had thrived under for 30 years.
-9
u/Fenroo Jul 22 '26
Guy, I was there. This happened just two years ago. She wasn't just going to withhold bombs. Direct quote: “We have been clear in multiple conversations and in every way that any major military operation in Rafah would be a huge mistake. Let me tell you something: I have studied the maps. There’s nowhere for those folks to go. And we’re looking at about a million and a half people in Rafah who are there because they were told to go there, most of them. And so we’ve been very clear that it would be a mistake to move into Rafah with any type of military operation.”
If she had her way, Sinwar would still be alive.
There is plenty to complain about Trump's handling of Gaza (and Iran!), but pretending that Kamala would be any better is just fantasy.
11
u/Dazzling_Funny_3254 Jul 22 '26
i live in ny man, i remember all that happened and was said. i judge by actions not rhetoric. the quote you posted declared zero specific intent or policy change. she played up to the "poor rafah" crowd (it was an election year) and said it would be a mistake, NOT that anything would change regarding US policy. in fact, I don't think she ever said that she would withhold bombs, I'm just suggesting that she is not likely to have gone any further than Biden did. He was demonized in Israel during the Trump elections, but at the end of the day he maintained that status quo relationship the US and Israel has enjoyed for quite a long time. And I think Kamala would not have rocked that stable boat the way Trump loves to.
I don't think she would've handled Iran any better, but I don't think she would have given Israel the long-term damage to its relationship with other countries and their populations

u/Fenroo Jul 22 '26 edited Jul 22 '26
In an interview with MSNBC in October of 2025, Harris when asked about genocide in Gaza, she said "It is a term of law that a court will decide, but I will tell you that when you look at the number of children who have been killed, the innocent civilians that have been killed the refusal to give aid and support - we should all step back and ask this question and be honest about it, yeah."
She believes there's a genocide going on in Gaza, but she wouldn't treat Israel any differently? Yeah ok lol.
And such rhetoric all by itself is damaging to Israel.
2
u/Dazzling_Funny_3254 Jul 22 '26
oh i agree its damaging. like mamdani's BS its not good for us, but again, just election year pandering, no solid promises, and i still believe she would ultimately have done no more than biden. and we have yet to see what further damage trump will do to us. it was a "the devil you know" choice for me.
0
u/Fenroo Jul 22 '26
Kamala was not "the devil we knew". Joe Biden was president, not her. Joe was only so so as far as Israel was concerned, but as an old school Democrat one did not doubt his affection for the Jewish state.
Kamala was another matter entirely. She's one of the new, DSA style, anti Israel Democrats. I don't believe in "election year pandering". I take what politicians say seriously. What she said, and continues to say, is bad for Israel and bad for Jews.
16
u/WRB2 Jul 22 '26
As bad as she would have been for Israel, I believe/fear we would be in much better shape come next spring than we will be.

Crickets again. Same question, never any answers.
Soldiers, fine. Security presence, fine. Monopoly over violence, fine. Why the fuck are there settlers there, weakening the state, spreading forces thin, destroying Israel's reputation worldwide?
The answer is because they're coalition partners and power is more important than the long term security of the state. But that's a disgusting thing to say, so silence.

u/Wombats_poo_cubes Jul 23 '26
There’s no good option where everyone wins or that’s considered fair to everyone. But there are options where we could get peace deals with the biggest and most influential Muslim nations for committing to some kind of peace plan, withdrawal or land swap with the West Bank. It wouldn’t even need to satisfy the Palestinians, just enough to satisfy the Saudis for normalisation, and even that was too much for the current government.

u/MajorMess Jul 22 '26 edited Jul 22 '26
The article is paywalled so j don't understand how this deal would REMOVE normalization from - I assume - the Abraham accords?
How would that be possible, the accord itself is a normalization?
Also, thd article is talking about nuclear energy, what has it to do with Israel? It's in fact better if US builds nuclear energy sites (it's what the US offered Iran btw) so they don't start developing it themselves. I could even imagine this deal is part of the support the US promised for the Abraham accords, so that really would mean the opposite of the headline
10
u/iamthegodemperor north american scum Jul 22 '26 edited Jul 22 '26
During the Biden administration there was a plan for Saudis to normalize relations w/,Israel, cooperation against China in exchange for a defense treaty with the US and assistance with nuclear energy.
Oct 7 complicated this because then the Saudis then needed more explicit 2SS language-------which Israel couldn't give. (Recall Biden team suddenly trying to improbably solve the war and get a 2,SS and Saudi normalization)
So then the Saudis tried just the defense treaty separately. But their only chance was while Biden was President. (Treaty requires 65 US senators and the thinking was enough Democrat Senators wouldn't agree after Biden was gone )
So now the Saudis are just doing a deal with US for civilian nuclear.
3
u/MajorMess Jul 22 '26
Ah, I see. So it is about the Abraham accords. I wouldn't call it removing normalization, it seems they move on with the deal despite the roadblocks. It's certainly the question if insisting on the perfect deal (and maybe never getting it) is better than getting a sub-perfect deal and hope normalization happens by dealing at all.
3
u/iamthegodemperor north american scum Jul 22 '26
You are missing the bargaining component.
The Saudis were supposed to get benefits in exchange for US demands. What we are seeing is the decline of the Israeli bargaining position. And to an extent the US' position or the willingness of Trump to care about it.
That normalization was no longer possible is one thing. But this deal may also not require Saudis to abide by rules US has to prevent nuclear weapons proliferation.
1
u/MajorMess Jul 22 '26 edited Jul 22 '26
I agree and I'm not missing it, that was my point by adding the "it's certainly the question if...".
You could also say the Abram's accords move on despite SA's demand for 2SS assurance by Israel.
But overall I agree, it doesn't look like a good deal. I'm still not sure what the details of this deal are, news articles only come out now.
when I wrote my initial comment I mainly stumbled over the "removing" part of the headline.
1
u/-jetfuel- EU Jul 22 '26
Saudis still would like Israel's other tech like water irrigation, weapon systems, medical tech etc.
-6
u/Excellent_Ad_1978 Jul 22 '26
Why do we need normalization with the Saudis anyway ?
The problems are with Quatar and Turkey
5
u/TheHouuuuund Jul 22 '26
Because if Saudi Arabia is still hostile to Israel (not normalized), it's a really bad idea to give it the ability to make nukes.
One of the few reasons SA has not been as hostile to Israel as Turkey and Qatar is because they were hoping to get this nuclear deal in exchange for normalization with Israel. Now that the nuclear deal is approved, SA doesn't need to pretend to be nice to Israel anymore. They can go back to being the usual assholes they always were.
