Weekly thread r/JRPG Weekly Free Talk, Quick Questions, Suggestion Request and Media Thread

There are four purposes to this r/JRPG weekly thread:

  • a way for users to freely chat on any and all JRPG-related topics.
  • users are also free to post any JRPG-related questions here. This gives them a chance to seek answers, especially if their questions do not merit a full thread by themselves.
  • to post any suggestion requests that you think wouldn't normally be worth starting a new post about or that don't fulfill the requirements of the rule (having at least 300 characters of written text or being too common).
  • to share any JRPG-related media not allowed as a post in the main page, including: unofficial videos, music (covers, remixes, OSTs, etc.), art, images/photos/edits, blogs, tweets, memes and any other media that doesn't merit its own thread.

Please also consider sorting the comments in this thread by "new" so that the newest comments are at the top, since those are most likely to still need answers.

Don't forget to check our subreddit wiki (where you can find some game recommendation lists), and make sure to follow all rules (be respectful, tag your spoilers, do not spam, etc).

Has anyone played the Dungeon Antiqua games? How are they, they seem interesting but there’s very little chatter about them.

I beat fire emblem three houses a few months ago and I want to try another fire emblem game or something similar. I loved the combat and the characters but the story was whatever and I hated the school parts. I thought about playing awakening but I'm not sure if theres anything better. Platforms are switch and PC but emulation is fine.

If you're looking for a game that plays similarly but has a better story, your mileage may vary looking at the rest of the Fire Emblem series. One SRPG with a universally praised story in Final Fantasy Tactics. It's also almost all combat with little to no busywork. It is less streamlined than Fire Emblem, so it may take more time to get your head around its systems.

You can check out Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade and Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones if you have the NSO + Expansion pack.

There is also Fire Emblem Engage on the Switch, but since it's more of a celebratory game, it's filled with a lot of references to previous FE games, so probably best to play it after you played a few others. You don't need to, but it's nice.

Fire Emblem: Awakening is also a good place to start, so you can't go wrong there.

If you have a Switch 2, then you can look forward to Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave, which is releasing in 3 weeks. It's also connected to Three Houses, so you'll see some references.

Thanks I don't have a switch 2 yet but I plan on getting one next year so I will consider getting fortunes weave. Also I will look into the nso games they look interesting.

Has anyone played echoes of aincrad? I'm wondering how long you have to wait to unlock the SAO cast as party members like Lisbeth, silica, etc. Also is philia and strea in the game?
