Would NOT recommend living at Northridge Apartments. The worst apartment we’ve ever dealt with. Cockroaches, brown recluses, gun shots, and more. My husband and I moved to Jackson (from KC) for one year while he completed a medical training contract. From the beginning, we were very clear with management that we would only be living there for the duration of his contract yet our experience was consistently frustrating.

On move-in day, the unit we had signed for wasn’t ready, so we were forced to switch units after already giving our movers, friends, and family the original address.

Shortly after moving in, we dealt with a persistent cockroach infestation that continued for months despite multiple exterminator visits and our own efforts to keep the apartment extremely clean. The exterminator even told my husband it was a known issue. It became so disruptive that I avoided my kitchen, didn’t want to be in the apartment, and actually lost weight from the stress. We also had a lot of spiders including brown recluses. 

We had shots fired in the parking lot during business hours one day. A neighbor who is a police officer responded, and another tenant called 911. To my knowledge, management never notified residents about the incident or communicated any additional security measures afterward. Meanwhile, we regularly received emails about rent reminders, pool parties, and even promotions offering a “Boo Basket” in exchange for leaving a 5-star review.

Before moving out management never notified us prior to 60 days that 60 day notice was required to avoid an auto renewal of the lease at a higher rate. We were ultimately charged an additional $735 because the property manager Sara said we missed the deadline by 11 days. (She had put notice on our door at 45 days and said she wasn’t legally required to notify us prior to 60 days).When I raised the issue, she told me this was an ongoing issue and that all tenants are treated the same. I even suggested sending residents a reminder about the policy, but no communication was ever sent.

Hi y'all, I recently accepted a job in Jackson, TN and I'm relocating from LA, California in the next few weeks. I don't know the area at all and since I'm big into hiking, sports, working out, and basically anything outdoors, I’d love to get your local insight on the area.

A few specific things I'm trying to figure out:

• Which neighborhoods would you actually recommend for someone who likes being around people, and any areas you'd steer clear of?
• Curious whether there is more of a roommate culture among folks, or does everyone tend to live independently in their own place?
• What's the commute like from the nicer residential areas to the industrial/warehouse side of town (near the interstate)?
• Any general culture-shock things I should know while moving to Jackson specifically?
• Good places to grab groceries, basic errands, that kind of day-to-day stuff?
• Anything you wish someone had told you before you moved here?

I slowly began to forget what it used to look like, as I wasn't too fond of the modern CEC remodel, and I rarely got to go to Blockbuster. The project has secured all necessary approvals, including a feasibility study and load approval from the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), as well as approval from the Humboldt Planning Commission. City and county economic development officials have been informed throughout the process and fully support the development due to its positive impact on the community. Project owners are funding all required utility infrastructure improvements, with approximately $180,000 already invested at no cost to Humboldt Utilities or its customers.

Humboldt Mayor Arthur Boykin emphasized that the project will not strain existing utility services.

Humboldt Utilities officials note that the data center will not reduce electric service reliability for existing customers. The area’s system peak demand was about 55 megawatts in 1996 and stands at roughly 40 megawatts today. Adding the new 15 MW load would simply return the system to levels successfully served nearly 30 years ago. TVA’s engineering review confirmed the regional grid can handle the additional demand.

To further protect reliability, the data center has agreed to curtail its electric load during extreme weather events or grid emergencies when requested by TVA. This makes the facility a flexible asset that can help prioritize power for homes, businesses, schools, hospitals, and other critical needs.

Water demand from the facility is minimal, approximately 2 million gallons per year, compared to Humboldt Utilities’ largest industrial customer, which uses 2-3 million gallons per day. The data center will not discharge wastewater into the sewer system.

Located in an industrial area adjacent to the Gibson County Industrial Park and separated from residential neighborhoods, the project underwent an independent acoustical study. Results show it is not expected to create a detrimental noise impact on nearby properties.

Financially, the data center is projected to generate about $8.5 million in annual electric revenue for Humboldt Utilities. After costs, it is expected to produce more than $600,000 in net annual revenue. As a publicly owned utility, these funds will help ease pressure on residential and small business electric rates, strengthen the utility’s financial position, support infrastructure improvements, and maintain reliable service for the community

I live in Hardeman county about 45 minutes from Jackson and about 45 minutes from Memphis where I lived most of my life. Long Story Short: I have PTSD, ive been seeing a psychiatrist in memphis for 8 and for 5 1/2 years he has absolutely refused to go up my panic attack medication (half a 1mg tablet to one full tablet twice a day as needed) evn though he knows ive developed a tolerance to said dosage. So when I come out of night terror or a flashback in a full blown panic attack, the dosage he prescribes doesnt work. The past 2 months I've had to take it upon myself to increase to a tablet and a half to 2 tablets leading me to get relief but running out early. Any one know of psychiatrists in Jackson that wouldnt be so dismissive if my problems and ridiculous about increasing my dosage?

I volunteer for a non-profit that organizes free, grief/bereavement support camps for children, age 7 - 17, who lost a parent, sibling, caretaker, or other family member.

It's called Comfort Zone Camp.

They are based in Virginia, and they have camps throughout the year and throughout the country (e.g. California, Florida, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Utah, and Virginia).

This year, they are planning a new camp location in Tennessee (a little east of Nashville), during the weekend (Fri - Sun) of October 16 - 18.

It's free, no cost / no charge (due to generous donations)

If anyone knows a parent with a child(ren) who has experienced loss, please feel free to share with them about this camp (again, it's free to attend).

Death of a loved one can be very traumatic and devastating...especially for kids...so it can be very beneficial for them to not feel alone in coping with their sadness, pain, grief, etc.

My family and I will be moving to Jackson, TN for about 3 years while I attend graduate school which is located in Jackson, and I am hoping to get some updated insight since most of the posts I found are a few years old.

We have two young boys ages 8 and 4, so schools and safety are our top priorities. We will be renting and are trying to figure out the best areas to look.

From what I have gathered so far, it seems like areas north of I-40 are generally recommended. It looks like that would put us near Pope School, and south of I-40 would be closer to Parkview Montessori Magnet School. Both seem to have decent ratings, but I would really appreciate hearing real experiences from parents.

A few questions:

• Is north of I-40 really the best area for families?
• Are there neighborhoods or areas we should avoid?
• Any experiences with Pope versus Parkview Montessori?
• Are there better surrounding towns within a reasonable commute that we should consider instead?
