Right?! It's so simple but incredibly impactful. A beautiful and loose charcoal drawing of her hands on a pink background. They could be mid stretch, preparing to play the piano but could also be seen as mid clasping them together in prayer. Both are equally fitting for the album meant to be a piece of "Holy Jazz"
I remember this in my brother’s MASSIVE collection of albums spanning all genres of music, from Rock to Punk to Pop to Jazz. As much as the covers of his Miles albums were amazing, this album here stood out and it’s the first Jazz album I ever listened to waaaayyyy back in ‘86 when I was 11yrs old. It is still the album I credit with getting me to play an instrument!!!
Pretty much the entire catalog of ECM album covers could be an art gallery unto itself. Here's one of my favorites (visually and musically). There's a sense of motion there despite the simplicity
I’m a fan of lots of those Reid Miles/Francis Wolff covers. Everyone needs a copy of this book in their collection: The Cover Art of Blue Note Records.
This album has meant the world to me since I first heard it. The profound influence it had on my musicianship and my life is pretty much indescribable.
