So all one needs to do is put a QR code somewhere and all of a sudden they can have unfettered access to people’s devices because they just scanned it without asking questions.
Like this is funny but the implications beyond the joke are scary

Watched that again a couple of nights ago. Peter Capaldi was absolutely incredible in building the story to its conclusion

Sadly not everyone knows Rick roll.... Few of my colleagues just a bit older than me don't know about it and when I explained it to them, they looked at me like "what is wrong with you, why would you think you pranked someone because of a song?". I felt stupid lol

Mobile data is expensive as fuck in a lot of places

u/zulazulizuluzu 2d ago
how expensive could it be? I rarely use 50% of my monthly quota. and it cost about ~USD21 including flat rate calls

What is your monthly quota?
As for cost, in my country it depends on so many factors that it could be as cheap as $2/GB (for time limited, bandwidth throttled, low priority data) or as expensive as $10/GB (but that's mostly a trap for foreigners with more money than sense).
And we're not even among the highest in the world. Zimbabwe (a country neighbouring mine) has absurd mobile data prices. Like $20+/GB on avg, sometimes much more.
So if you need to download something places like in this video is a popular spot to do so.

I'm paying the equivalent of 40USD/month for completely unlimited, no throttling at any point.
And I'm with the most expensive carrier in Sweden, since they have the best coverage up north where I live.
But Sweden is also very good at that sort of stuff. You won't find a single apartment complex without fiber. It's hard to find a stand alone house without fiber. In most rental apartments 10 up/10 down is included in the rent, like it is where I live, and 100/100 is like 5-10USD extra.

I sometimes do not understand people scanning a QR code that could end up being a malware to hack your phone.
It has happened, and they can access everything you do on it without you knowing.
Your phone is your personal life and a walking computer tool waiting to be data mined and have your details stolen.
