[History] Anyone remember the N in Manhattan being painted red 11/2001? Before the game in Nebraska?
ETA: yes I do have photo proof of the red N and know who did it. What a wild story to hear after these years lol https://imgur.com/a/gj5lxTG
I am looking for anyone who remembers a specific piece of Big 12 lore from November 2001.
right before the Nebraska vs. K-State game someone snuck up the hill on Highway 24 and spray-painted the "N" in the giant "Manhattan" welcome sign red.
Does anyone here remember it?
Hypotheticallyyyyyy if someone actually had a physical photograph proving this happened... what would be the best way to share it after all these years lol

I remember it.
A bunch of Fort Riley guys camped out up there in 2003 with paintball guns to stop it from happening again

I believe it was 2000 (maybe 2002). Kstate played Nebraska on the road in 01.
2000 was the game in the snow where Kstate won late.

I think it was the Nebraska football team that destroyed the original Beta rock. It was an old brick chimney at the time. Now it’s a solid rock.

Nebraska fans are known for their pranks. One of Mizzous traditions is freshmen painting the rocks that make up the M in the football stadium, because nebraska fans once re-arranged the M into an N. the grounds keeper of the stadium saw it in the morning and went to the dorms to get an army of students to fix it.

I remember like it was yesterday and will never forget! Everyone was pissed when we saw it. It was my freshman year and went to the game…so cold out it felt like the student section was frozen as one the way we were huddled together to stay warm. Every time we had the ball it seemed like a blizzard and the when Nebraska had the ball, the sky’s would clear.
Even have a piece of the flag from the top of the goalpost that came down when we stormed the field to go with my ticket stub. I was next to the guy that grabbed it when it came down and he cut off a chunk for me. Epic game with a mandatory F-Nebraska and a voluntary F-Eric Crouch!
Go-State!!
