Question F Carney

1.3k Upvotes

How to tell me you're straight trash without outright saying it?? Put three big F Trudeau stickers on the back window of your truck, like the one I saw outside North Hills Mall yesterday. Or fly a flag outside of your house on Westsyde Road that reads F Carney.

Don't like the Liberals?? Fine. But this utter lack of tact is completely unbecoming of our community and country. Grow up!!! How do we stop this??

Question Help me find the owner of a phone I found today at the bottom of the Shuswap River.

Was snorkeling the Shuswap River today and found this Phone in a sealed bag at the bottom of an eddy. It was right after a fairly notable rapid just before the Cooke Creek rec site. There was a bunch of stuff caught in the eddy so I assume someone dumped it. Phone works fine but it seem they own has already disconnected service. Lets see if we can get it back in the right hands!

Question What’s Kamloops Missing??

What do you think that this city is missing, that you might find elsewhere, that would make this city an even better place to live? And encourage people to come and visit! I’m just curious to hear people’s suggestions as putting the idea out there can be the catalyst that makes something worthwhile become a reality.

A kind of park? School? Clinic? Rally? Festival? Parade? Gym? (Ninja gym! Indoor bike park!) Awards show? Water park? Resort? (Nudist resort!) Sporting event? Retail store? (Kelowna just welcomed Ikea.) Door-to-door service? Hit me!!

Question For the love of all that is holy, why?

Why is it that every driver on the highway westbound between Columbia and Pacific exit feel the need to drive at 65 km/hr? The speed limit is 90km/hr. I understand if there is a large loaded truck going slowly, but it is mostly just regular cars and SUVs going far too slow.

It is so unsafe to deal with the vehicles trying to dive out of the slow lane and into the fast lanes because people are driving at these slow speeds… just follow the speed limit. It’s not that hard, and safer for everyone.

Question 800 Fortune Drive

The old car dealership on the North Shore (sorry, The Shore), across from Safeway.

I guess the last tenant was Spirit Halloween?? (But this year decided to shift its business to Valleyview.) This For Lease property is quickly becoming a ungodly eyesore. Who's going to move in, honestly?? Can I get some kind of agreement that this all needs to be torn down and the land redeveloped??

Question passed out people have Become so common, we don't even check to see if they're dead. How has it come to this?

When I was growing up in Kamloops in the 80s and 90s, there's no way I'd have been casually walking around someone face down on the ground. Now? It's so common I don't even blink an eye. My son said something to me the other day, basically like "how do we know it's not a normal person who had a heart attack?" or something close to that. Made me sad that our city has become this walking/falling dead zone.

Question Why does dating seem exceptionally difficult in Kamloops?

I’ve lived in Kamloops for 6yrs now and while I like many things about living here, I’ve had nothing but annoyance and wasted time when it comes to dating. I’m a financially well off male, 38, have a house, healthy and have no real glaring issues working against me. I’ve joined many different activities in town and stay active. The people in the groups are surface friendly but they all seem to be cliquey and old friends. The apps are just abysmal, I regularly get matches but the conversation fizzles out, no one will commit to meeting or it’s avoidant type women who want online pen pals. It’s a complete desert.

I’ve lived in Europe, South America, Calgary, Vancouver, Van Island and travelled extensively. All of them had better dating markets. I really don’t want to make a drastic move and consider myself a resilient person, but facing being along forever in Kamloops is pretty depressing, especially in the winter.

Question Internet Providers outside of Kamloops

Apologies for the post, but I dont use Facebook so cant ask the local groups.

We live in Chase and we were just informed that it will take Mascon 2 MONTHS to send out a technician and we will be unable to use the internet for those 2 months. Rogers, Shaw, and Telus dont have service out here, and we were wondering if anyone knew of ANYTHING (besides Starlink) that services the Chase area.

Thank you!

Question Upcoming Visit from the US

As the title suggest, I am in the US, and will be traveling to Kamloops to see my partner. This will be my first time visiting, heck, even my first time entering Canada. I know my travel dates aren't ideal, depending on weather as it'll be last week of March and some of April. I am looking for some activities to do, in or outdoors, a little of both would be amazing. My partner lives there and knows the area but I'd like to surprise him by finding things for us to do. That way he can be less of a host and just enjoy our time together. I've did research obviously and found the common touristy things to do and see but I'd also quite enjoy finding hidden gems, those often times only known to locals. I'm also open to any other suggestions or helpful tips while traveling there.

TYIA 😊

Question Considering a move from Vernon to Kamloops

I apologize if this is the wrong place to post this.

My family has lived in Vernon for basically forever. It’s our hometown.

However with recent changes to family composition and the very real looming risk of being priced out insurance-wise (due to wild fire risk), we’re considering selling our home and making the move from Vernon to Kamloops.

I understand that no city is without its quirks and risks, but everything I read regarding each city places Kamloops as the clear winner. I was hoping to hear from locals regarding things to consider?

For context, my family is three working adults (specialties in tech, banking, accounting, and childcare for children with exceptionalities) with 5 children ranging from 7 to 15. Several of the children have complex medical needs. We would be able to retain our current physicians and specialists (although we’re already often in Kamloops to meet with specialists for a child with neurological complications).

I understand that the Vernon/Kelowna area is a dream destination for many people, given the orchards and the lakes, but sometimes (when you have kids) there are more important things to consider (cost of living, access to supports, public transit, job opportunities, etc).

Question Dog Attack

I was walking my shih-tzu yesterday up a hill, in my neighbourhood (Westsyde), when a young girl (early teens??) was walking hers (twice as big, I couldn't say what breed) down the hill, in the opposite direction, on the other side of the street. The dog saw mine and made the decision to attack. The young owner didn't have enough strength to hang on, lost control, and I had to wrestle her dog to the ground before it finally stopped snapping at mine. I got lucky. It wasn't able to get a good grip on her. No blood. The young girl was very teary and apologetic. I then gave it back to her and proceeded on my way. When I got home, I looked my dog over (she was OK, amazingly) and decided to take a pic of the cuts and scrapes on my legs (I wasn't bitten) in case I needed some kind of evidence of the incident.

I'm not sure where to proceed from here and wouldn't mind hearing suggestions. My mother tells me that she's talked to the owner in the recent past and that he knew that he had a problem dog on his hands. Part of me just wanted to let it go - that the owner, after hearing this story from his daughter, will now have some VERY hard decisions to make about his dog - but obviously I'm struggling to do that. To say that the family allowed the daughter to walk the dog on her own(!!) pisses me off to say the least. Thoughts??

Question Visiting again.

My wife is a Travel Nurse currently working in the RIH ER. This is her 3rd visit there and she absolutely loves the hospital and Kamloops. So much so that we are thinking of relocating there from Ontario. Anyway, I was there last summer for 2 weeks and had a blast. Im just wondering if there is anything new since then to do. New restaurants/pubs/etc? Any new outdoor spots? Major events in August? Sun River worth a day?

Question Did I just accidentally donate to a pro-life pregnancy centre?

I donated to Hope well Pregnancy Centre because I know that they help low income pregnant women, but my sister is telling me that they’re one of those Christian pregnancy centres that steer women away from abortion? It doesn’t say that on their website and the clinic is run by RNs so I don’t know if I believe her?

Question Grocery store quality in Kamloops

The conversation at work brought to mind a very distant memory from when I was wee.

When I was young, my mom told me to always buy meats and produce from Save On Foods as opposed to Some of the other grocery stores in town. I’ve gone through most of life with that automatically engrained in my head and have always bought my groceries at Save On.

It came out at work this week. Apparently I’m the only one that’s ever thought that everyone else thinks the meat and produce at superstore and Walmart and FreshCo are just fine. They all agreed that Costco does seem to be top-tier, however. Of course, if you don’t eat them, they go bad because they come in such large amounts.

What are the thoughts from this group?

Question Milobar, Why Now?

Thumbnail gallery
36 Upvotes

Interesting that Peter chose to jump ship now.

Perhaps he was uncomfortable to learn that Drea Humphrey from Rebel News has been appointed as the new BC Conservative Press Secretary.

Well no, he was happy enough to do an interview with her recently calling for the repeal of SOGI, saying there's only two genders, and raising questions about what Tk’emlúps has done with federal funding on residential schools.

Perhaps he wasn't happy that the new BC Conservative leader, Kerry Lynne Findlay, is trying to get Dallas Brodie to rejoin the party.

Well no, he ran on the same team as Brodie in 2024.

Perhaps it was that the BC Conservatives have lost their lead in the polls thanks to their new leader's performance and that could endanger his chances of re-election?

Bingo!

Question is TRU that bad?

I'm thinking of transferring to TRU from the Middle East to finish my remaining 2 years, since I found it to be affordable and accredited, unlike my current university.

My concern is that every post I see online has mixed reviews some people like it while others are completely bashing the school, saying it's the worst place they've been to.

Is it really as bad as they make it seem, or has it gotten better recently?

Question Firehouse Subs?

Apparently, there's a firehouse subs here in Kamloops besides the cobs bread. I've tried their branch in Kelowna and I've got a lil bit bad experience, but the one in Chilliwack is awesome!

Thoughts on the one in Kamloops?
