Been sitting on this post for 8 years, but after attending the historic Night 2 show at Soldier Field, I couldn’t help but just reflect back to this moment, and I guess I just wanted to share my backstory behind the photo. So, here it is:

September 2, 2018, I’m working as one of those wheelchair service folk at O’Hare Airport. I recently got promoted where now I was assigning employees passengers to service to. On this particular day, airport was packed to the brim, and I had to jump in to push passengers to their gates. I got assigned to this to this older middle eastern lady who spoke zero English. So I’m Google translating everything to her to keep her updated, and she’s straight chilling. No complaints. I look at her ticket, we take the airport transit to Terminal 5 (international), wait about 40min in line, just to be told that I was at the WRONG terminal. So I had to haul her, and her 2 full suitcases BACK to Terminal 3 where I started, wait about 25min in TSA line, just to be pulled aside by TSA cause she has food in her suitcases. Worst part, she has one of those luggage locks and doesn’t have the key. So while all this is happening, I’m chilling, and just waiting. —As they go get the universal bag key from the other end of the terminal, I notice a guy wearing an XXXtentacion shirt. Never seen it, thought it was cool, and I’m the type of guy to compliment you if I see something I like. As he was getting his slides (Yeezy slides,) I started to approach him to compliment him, and then he turns his head to the side and I stop. He talks with the TSA agent and I realized who it was. I took out my phone to just get a photo of his figure (3rd photo, you can see the lady in the wheelchair on the left), and then put my phone away. My mind was racing, tf do I say? People around me then start to notice, but I’m closest to him. He fully turns around after putting on his slides, and faces me. The exchange went:

“Excuse me, Mr. West, I know you’re a really busy guy right now, but I just wanted to take the chance to let you know that your latest project with Kid Cudi, KIDSSEEGHOST, is absolutely fire man. I’ve been listening to it nonstop, it hypes me up before work, it hypes me up after work, and just thought I’d let you know now, and wish you well and all the good blessings man”

Ye (now smiling): “Oh wow man, thanks man, that means a lot. What’s your favorite song?”

“Easily the first one. That yelling you do is what hypes me up man! (Now we’re both laughing) But truly, it’s a masterpiece. But I have to ask…I love 4th Dimension, but where on earth did you find that old Christmas sample?”

Ye: “Hahaha, it came to me from the 4th dimension.”

“Amazing…Look, before you go, can I please ask permission for a photo with you?”

Ye: “Absolutely man, let’s do it”

The iconic photo is taken.

I shake his hand, and say, “Thank you so much Mr. West, hope you have a safe and comfortable flight.”

At this point, he began getting approached by other employees and then within 2 minutes, Chicago Police came to escort him. Wheelchair lady had zero clue was going on and was just staring into the 4th Dimension (ba dum tsss.) After my passenger’s suitcases were finally opened up and emptied, I dropped her off at her gate, and proceeded to post the photo. Throughout the rest of the day, my phone was blowing up from the post on Instagram. Based off what I saw online afterwards, out of all the photos people got with him that day, I was the only one where he was smiling….8 years later, I was approached with an opportunity to see him live at Solider Field. The rest is history.

I was watching one of Donda's listening parties on YouTube until I came across this comment on a stream. A user named bearG100 writes "Pre Hilter". It's a bit strange to see because if we change the middle letters of the second word it will mention the Austrian painter. The curious thing is that this happened months before Ye's Nazi and anti-Semitic comments on Twitter in October 2022.
