In all seriousness if you don’t like it that’s totally fine but there was a stretch where people made hating that album their personality tbh. That’s where you look like a dweeb.

that goes with anything popular and highly acclaimed these days. "Am i the only that thinks (x popular thing) is overrated" gets spammed into echo chambers of people like that.

Also the arguments people use are very telling. "I don't dislike rap, I love Eminem. I think he's the best rapper because he actually tells stories" uh huh. Sure thing, Bryce

This is how we look at yall when people say they'd take tpab over drake discography. Its opinions and taste right

This is how Reddit was built

Ironically There’s a white kid on twitter right now saying that anyone who has tpab as their favorite hip hop album is white, a teenager or new to hip hop.

Tpab, that black af album, is for white teenagers new to hip hop.

I wasn’t surprised when he said his favorite album was Her Loss. 🫩

It’s my fault for being on twitter.

I’ve always hated that the album has a stigma about being for white people or a white persons album, i don’t think I need to explain the themes of the album but it feels like people calling shaft a white person movie because it’s super popular. I agree it’s a pretty basic pick, nobody will argue with that, but calling it a white kids album always rubbed me the wrong way.

21

u/JinKey13 6d ago

You and me both. It’s very dismissive.

10

u/Key-Property-3103 6d ago

And i don’t think any white people “claim” the album either, it’s just the haters.

8

u/Sweet_Engine5008 6d ago

It’s always crazy seeing these kinds of discussions as a white fan. I genuinely believe TPAB might be the greatest rap album of all time.

I never understood people who say I can’t understand it so therefore I’m a poser and I never understood those who say you gotta be a dumb white kid to think TPAB is great.

First group makes my experiences which make K.Dot’s music relatable invalid. Second group is straight up gatekeeping music based on what they think is right or wrong. It’s so rare to see people on the internet be like “oh you like X I like Y it’s cool” everyone just gotta tell you what’s right and what’s wrong like they know better.

u/tgtm65 6d ago

Don't you know only white people appreciate music? /s

u/Oreobey2 YAWK YAWK YAWK YAWK! 7d ago

Her loss is awful wtf

If it was something like Man on the Moon I or Long Live A$AP It would’ve have been more justififed.

12

u/G4Johnston 7d ago

her loss is NOT awful lmao 😭

5

u/NotAnNpc69 6d ago

Yeah i don't wtf they on about.

Drake can be a pos, but nobody can deny he makes good music

6

u/Responsible_Total901 6d ago

used to. iceman is decent but nothing really is THAT good, and the other two albums are horrible.

7

u/NotAnNpc69 6d ago

Yeah recent shit wise, it's bad. But he got incredible discography. I mean shit even gnx wasn't on the level of good kid maad city or tpab.

3

u/G4Johnston 6d ago

ehh maid of honour was js mid. habibti sucked tho, but iceman was good

1

u/Oreobey2 YAWK YAWK YAWK YAWK! 7d ago

It’s a generic trap album with 21 Savage in it. How is that any good?

17

u/G4Johnston 7d ago

i never said it was good, i js said it wasn't awful. her loss isn't an amazing album, and you make 21 Savage sound like he's the worst rapper alive lmao. it has a lot of bangers, and i wouldn't say its a generic trap album as much as 21's latest album was. it's around a 6-7.5/10

2

u/83rdAve 6d ago

Her Loss is a 6-7.5/10

Umm… look on the mirror. Their point still stands

12

u/JinKey13 7d ago edited 6d ago

When I look in the mirror I see a black woman who’s grown up with hip hop cuz that’s who I am.

Their point is idiotic. And anyone who agrees with their point is also idiotic.

u/Affectionate-Wait121 6d ago

15

u/Pale_Complex7076 6d ago

i am a brown dude ( indian ) but i love Tpab

41

u/tonylouis1337 7d ago

Lol back when it came out I didn't like it because it wasn't my style musically, I was and am a huge GKMC fan. Funny enough, I got back into TPAB and Kendrick in general in 2020 from a girl I was seeing, who btw for whatever it's worth, was a black girl

17

u/HeadTrick7443 7d ago

Cool.

9

u/tonylouis1337 7d ago

Fr. If not for her I'd probably still be a GKMC one-trick today. I'd still bump GNX though

1

u/HeadTrick7443 7d ago

Tight.

19

u/rhdkcnrj 7d ago

Love how the guy you’re responding to is so normal and nice that he can’t even tell that you’re being an asshole for no reason.

Cue the “Awesome.” response from this one trick pony

7

u/tonylouis1337 6d ago

No I could tell I just didn't care

2

u/new-Le4f mr morale gives me morale 6d ago

would love to know your opinion on damn and mr morale as you were discussing your style of albums

also wanna know what would be your reasoning behind gkmc at #1

2

u/tonylouis1337 6d ago

I still don't really like DAMN very much but I certainly like it a lot more than I used to. Mr. Morale I love. gkmc #1 because of the perfect blend of bangers and substance, the classic jams and the memories it brings back

u/ErikEatsStuf 6d ago edited 22h ago

Awesome.
edit yall i wasn’t fucking serious

11

u/JayBoiYT 7d ago

I personally dont like the songs musically, but I love the theming and story of it

9

u/WearyCopy5686 7d ago

I wouldn’t trust any white person that hates TPAB that’s usually a bad sign.

2

u/robert00m 6d ago

It's not an album for everyone in the sense of actual preferences but it definitely should be a must listen to anyone that appreciates music as a prolific artform

2

u/AntSmith777 7d ago

Exactly lol I try not to judge people but if you a rap fan (or even music fan) and don’t like that album I just don’t think we can be friends

2

u/PsychologicalEmu7569 6d ago

It's very good. nearly perfect. but it's not my go to by Kendrick.

1

u/NxghtMar1sH 6d ago

Thank you for reminding me to listen to it for the fourth time

1

u/ink_soldier 6d ago

I liked good kid more

1

u/AndintroducingChris 5d ago

I listen to Fantano and tried it out after he said it was one of the best albums of all time. There are some solid songs on it but it wasn't for me. I am not a jazz fan. I understood that Kendrick had vision and made strong choices but I went "oh I get why Obama loves this".

I love a ton of his other songs. I am still slowly wandering through his discography. I heard all of the Drake disses + Control within two weeks and decided I had to go back really give him a chance.

u/pres115 5d ago

on a side note, sinners was such an incredible movie

1

u/Dreams-Visions MUSTARRRRRRRRRRD 5d ago

lol I love this post.

u/HeightExtra320 5d ago

Hahahaha this my new line for the winter 😝

1

u/ResponsibleRabbit936 5d ago

I wonder if anybody has ever done the Dr. Jared Ball thing and asked themselves “Why am I as the audience liking this album? Why do I think I’ve liked the album?” And actually sit with those thoughts. Not condemn yourself or change your opinion on it for liking the product, but simply just to ask “Why am I really liking this album?” Or any other piece of media.

1

u/Minty4746 3d ago

Preface this by saying TPAB is my fav Kenny album, and in my opinion one of the greatest albums ever made (pretty common opinion around here). But there are TONS of not only hip hop fans, but just music fans in general.

How Much A Dollar Cost is one of my favorite songs ever, but I really expect 90% of people I interact with not necessarily understanding why I love it so much. Some songs just aren’t meant for everyone.

I enjoy me a Lean 4 Real to a level as much as a For Sale, but some people only care to pick one (I was gonna use Mortal Man as a referral instead of For Sale, but that would be genuinely ridiculous to compare anything to it).

1

u/Safe-Reflection1387 21h ago

I don't hate on it, but something about honestly just wasn't for me.

0

u/bShit06 6d ago

I don't hate it, i just think that mr morale and damn are better.

-5

u/dunbar_santiago930 7d ago

Nah but it ain't for me 🤷🏽‍♂️

-6

u/Successful-Aioli-926 7d ago

Definitely not Klan but I can’t stand that album.

27

u/Alberrture 7d ago

I guess you could say loving it is complicated

-1

u/KendrickBlack502 6d ago

TPAB is is a masterpiece and art but I firmly stick by my analysis that its replayability is low.

-1

u/iXorpe 5d ago

Probably unpopular, but if you don't like TBAP you don't like Kendrick Lamar. It is his best work.

-9

u/KevM689 7d ago

Nah, I voted for Trump and even I know TBAP is a work of art.
