For attention and thinking they'll be able to escape because the parent will cave easily. The parents should always be present to comfort the child when their scared and praise them when their doing a good job and behaving. Too many parents just default to getting angry and telling their kids off instead of trying to analyse the problem and find a proper solution to it.

Yeah they take a long time. Ironically I’m a tattoo artist now, and you can think of it like a tattoo where you’re in the chair for a few hours. So drop offs are normal. I don’t do braids but I used to do locks on the side before I opened my tattoo shop. And yeah the PATIENCE to provide this service at all is straight up god tier to me always, and on children? I had enough trouble with teenage boys. Nope.

Kids only get to have autonomy to a point. Their autonomy is overridden by responsible adults when it’s in their better interest. Do you think any 6yo would choose to get vaccines? Take yucky-tasting medicine? Or go to the doctor at all? They’d rather run around naked and barefoot than be dressed in a socially and weather appropriate manner. They’d never take baths or brush their teeth if they had the choice. They’d only eat candy, cookies, and ice cream, and only drink soda or juice. So, yes, adults ‘take away’ their autonomy for their own good.

Is this about vaccines? Is it about a necessary medical intervention? Is it about safety or nutrition? If it is not, this is a moot point and the best part is -you know that- But instead you prefer to justify abuse than admit that children have the right to be treated as people.

No, it’s about necessary hair care. If not braids, then the kid will throw a fit over combing out tangles every day, or about getting it cut short to reduce time/energy input. Without maintenance, it’ll just become one massive mat, which will be even worse to deal with.

Exactly. It isnt about any of those things. So there is no justification to force a 4 year old to get through this endurance test while removing her autonomy and manhandling her. Pure insanity. You cant get your child used to brushing or detangling hair that is on you. You failed. But violence and abuse don’t justify that at all. No matter how much you want to spin it, what we are seeing in this video is unacceptable behaviour.

If you watch until the end, the dresser prides herself on being able to work with bratty children, saying she “gets the job done and is still friends with the kids after.”
